19 – ENGLISH Installing Batteries Three AAA re-char geable Ni-MH batteries come with your phone. Y ou must install the handset batteries befor e using your phone. 1. Remove the batter y compar tment cover by sliding it downw ards. 2. Inser t the new batteries.

27 – ENGLISH When a new call comes in, the screen will display the caller’s phone number and/or name (provided that you subscribe to this service through your local telephone pr ovider). Shows the total and new calls to be reviewed. In the example, ther e are 16 calls in total, which includes 12 new calls.
28 – ENGLISH Note : Y ou may permanently turn off the red flashing visual indicator for both message waiting and new calls by simply setting the indicator to the OFF position (this switch is located on the right side of the telephone). 32 – ENGLISH █ T alking Dialing Setting Y our ClearSounds® A1600 comes from the f ac tor y preset f or T alking Dialing Mode set to OFF . This featur e allows you to pre-dial the number you wish to call and you will hear the number announced as you dial as well as display the numbers on the L CD.

35 – ENGLISH Using the Amplification Reset Override Switch (located on the back of the base) The ClearSounds® A1600 is designed with unique featur es to protec t users from being exposed to danger ous sound levels. Y ou are able to switch between automatic or manual amplification, and you should selec t the setting that best suits your needs.

37 – ENGLISH Dialing from Standby Mode Y ou can enter the desired phone number in standby mode, which allows you to verify the number befor e dialing. If you have the T ALKING DIALING func tion turned ON, the number will be announced as you dial (see page 32 for more inf ormation).
38 – ENGLISH Method 2: 1. Use the keypad to enter the number you want to store. Y ou can use under the word Clear to edit the number . 2. P ress and hold one of the Memory dial keys for at least 2 seconds, and the display will show the number you have entered.
39 – ENGLISH █ Mute Setting During a conversation, you can tempor arily switch your phone’s microphone off to have a private, off-line conversation by using the mute f eature. The par ty on the phone cannot hear you but you can hear them. A conversation can be muted while using the handset , speakerphone or hands-fr ee headset featur e.
40 – ENGLISH Use Redial List Options Y ou can add a number to the phonebook fr om your redial list or delete a number in your redial list . 1. P ress the Redial k ey in standby mode.
41 – ENGLISH █ Receiving CID Recor ds When you r eceive a call, the Caller ID information is tr ansmitted between the first and second ring. The Caller ID information appears on the display while the phone rings, giving you a chance to monitor the information and decide whether or not to answer the call.
42 – ENGLISH 1. When you are on existing call, a tone will emit , and the Caller ID displays the incoming caller’s information. 2. P ress the Call W aiting key to put the current call on hold and answer the second caller . 3. If the second call is not answer ed, the Caller ID information will be tr ansferr ed into the Caller log.

53 – ENGLISH █ Call W aiting (Flash) Y our ClearSounds® A1600 comes from the f ac tor y preset f or Flash Time to 600ms. Flash timing is the signaling process that tells the phone system when a phone is on hook or off hook. The United States uses a 600ms timing sequence.
54 – ENGLISH █ Modify PIN (P ersonal Identification Number) Y our ClearSounds® A1600 is equipped with a PIN, which is used when r e-setting the handset to f ac tor y def ault settings. The def ault PIN is 0000. We suggest that you do not change the PIN fr om 0000 , but if you need to change the PIN: 1.
55 – ENGLISH Date & Time Format Settings If you have Caller ID ser vice, the date and hour will be automatically set when you receive your first call. If you currentl y do not have Caller ID ser vice through your phone company , please follow the dir ec tions below .

62 – ENGLISH Set OFF – When the Amplification Featur e is set to OFF , the amplify func tion will be OFF ever y time a call star ts. This allows people who do not r equire the level of amplification offer ed on the phone to use it .
63 – ENGLISH For optimal speak erphone per formance, avoid the following: • Areas with high background noise (The microphone might pick up these sounds and prevent the speakerphone from going into the receiving mode when you finish talking). • Sur faces aff ec ted by vibr ation.
64 – ENGLISH Dialing from Standby Mode Y ou can enter the desired phone number in standby mode, which allows you to verify the number befor e dialing. If you have the T ALKING DIALING func tion turned ON, the number will be announced as you dial (see page 60 for more inf ormation).
65 – ENGLISH Storing M1-M4 Memor y Numbers 1. P ress the memory key ( M1-M4 ) in standby mode. 2. The display shows “ Number ? ” Enter the desired number (up to 24 digits) and you can press under the word Er ase to er ase digit(s). Then press under the word Save .
66 – ENGLISH █ Redial F unc tion - Handset The Redial key is used to quickl y r edial the last number you dialed. 1. P ress right on the navigation key in standby mode. 68 – ENGLISH █ Caller ID on Call W aiting When you subscribe to Call W aiting Caller ID service from your local phone provider , the phone will display the Caller ID information of the second call while you ar e on the first call.
69 – ENGLISH █ Caller ID List Viewing the Caller List As calls are received and stored, the icon is displayed on the L CD. If the Caller ID memor y is full, the icon will flash on the L CD. Records will be listed in the order they wer e r eceived.

84 – ENGLISH Play Messages When a call is received and the T AM is ON and ANS & REC is selec ted, the machine will play the outgoing message, and then per form message r ecording. The process is as f ollows: After ringing N times, the phone enters answer-r ecord mode automatically and star ts to play the outgoing message.

88 – ENGLISH Remote Access Y ou can access many f eatures of your answering machine remotel y from any touch tone phone. A four-digit Security ID/ PIN is requir ed to access the system and the f ac tor y def ault code is 0000. T o enter remote access: Dial your phone number from any touch tone phone.
