Quick Start Guide Cisco 300 Series Managed Switches.
2 Cisco 300 Series Managed Switches W elc ome Thank you f or choosing the Cisco 300 S eries Managed Switch, a Cisco network c ommunications device. This device is de signed to be operational right out of the box as a standard bridge. In the def ault configuration, it will f or ward pack ets betwe en connecting devic es after power up.
Cisco 300 Series Managed Switches 3 Do not deploy the device in a location where any of the f ollowing conditions exist: • High Ambient T emperature —Ref er to the f ollowing table f or the high ambient temperatur e rating of each switch: • Reduc e d Air Flow —Both side panels must be unob structed t o prev ent overheating.
4 Cisco 300 Series Managed Switches Rack -Mount Plac ement S TEP 1 Remove the f our screws fr om each side near the front of the swit ch. Retain the screws f or re-installation. (Do not r emove the f our screws from each side near the back of the swit ch.
Cisco 300 Series Managed Switches 5 There is a wall-mount kit pack e d with your swit ch. The dimensions f or the mount kit are as f ollows: Mount the managed switch t o the wall by drilling two pilot hole s 3.7 inches (95 mm ) apar t , at taching the provided anchors and screws t o the wall, then sliding the switch int o p osition on the screws.
6 Cisco 300 Series Managed Switches S TEP 3 Repeat Step 1 and Step 2 f or each devic e you want t o connect to the managed switch. N OTE Cisco strongly recommends using Cat5 or better cable f or Gigabit connectivity . When you connect your network devic es , do not e x ceed the maximum cabling distance of 100 meters (328 f eet) .

The 24MP , 28MP , 52P and 52MP models of the swit ch can deliver a maximum of 30 W atts to any P oE p or t . W ARNING The switch is t o b e connected only to P oE networks without routing t o the outside plant .

10 Cisco 300 Series Managed Switches • 8 data bits • no parity • 1 stop bit • no flow control S TEP 4 Enter a user name and password. User names and pas swords ar e both case s ensitive and alpha-numeric. The default username is cisco, and the default pas sword is cisco.
