16 EN 3 Safety Regulations 3.1 General safety precautions Read these operating instruct ions before commi ssioning the USV PROTECT B. PRO for the first time and comply with the safety precautions! The.
17 EN The output can be energised even if the UPS is not connected to the mains supply, as the UPS has its own internal power supply (battery)! For reasons of personal p rotection, the device must be properly earth ed! The PROTECT B.
18 EN • If the UPS is brought from a cold environment into th e room where it will be set up, condensation ma y occur. In such cases, allow the device to acc limatise for at least 2 hours. The UPS must be co mpletely dry before it may be commissioned.
19 EN When replacing the batteri es, heed the following: Use only identical, maintenance-free, close d lead batteries with the same specifications as the o riginal batteries. Pre-wired replacement battery kits which are ready for connectio n are available at your specialist dealer.

21 EN 4 Inst allation 4.1 Unpacking and checking The device has been ful ly tested and checked. Although the packing and shipping of the device are done with the usual care, transport damage cannot be fully ruled out.
22 EN The original packi ng materials provide effective prote ction against impacts and sho uld be retained to ensure secure transport at a later date. To rule out the risk of suffocation, kee p t he plast ic packaging bags out of the reach of babies and children.

28 EN 6 Electrical Connection 6.1 Internal battery contact connection (all models except PROTECT B.1800 PRO) 1. Ensure that the UPS is de-energised and that no mains connection cables are plugged in. 2. Now grasp the left and right sides below the front panel and pull the front panel out toward the front.
29 EN 6.2 External battery unit contact connection (PROTECT B.1800 PRO onl y) External battery expansions ar e connected from the back of the device. It is not necessary to open the front panel(s). Remove the battery connection covers from the back of the UPS and the battery unit(s) (see also Item 8/16 on Page 26).
30 EN 6.3 Mains connection Compare the setting of the rated su pply voltage of the UPS to the rated voltage applicable for your country. The ex-works presetting of the UPS output voltage is 230 V AC. Changes to 208 V AC, 220 V AC, 230 V AC or 240 V AC can be made via the operator panel.
31 EN Finally, check the firm seating of the wire jumpers attache d in the Emergency Power Off plug and tighten the two exte rnal screws of the plug part (see also Page 27 Item 11). If you would like to use the emergency switch-of f function, continue with Section 8.

33 EN 7.2 Operator panel 7.2.1 Overview The panel is made up of three units: the liquid crystal display with black pictograms on a white background, the four buttons for menu navigation and mechani cal enabling of the rotatable unit and, at the top, the three di fferent UPS status display LEDs.

38 EN 7.4 UPS settings The two parameters of the UPS setup menu: Para meter 1: displ ays the currently selected menu item. 3 settings can be changed manually via th e operator pan el: UPS output volt age "01", activation or deactivation of a ti me-based manageabl e output socket group "02" and its delay "03".
39 EN Procedure for programming the manageable outputs Step 1: First set the UPS to the so-called standby operating mode, i.e. if the UPS was just in operation, switch it off. ATTENTION: Your connected electrical loads ar e de-energised by t hi s! Also ensure that the internal/e xt ern al battery's contacts were connected pr operly.
40 EN 8 Interfaces and Communication 8.1 Computer interfaces RS232 and USB Different interfaces are available for co ntrol of the UPS and the convenient read-out of status indications and measured values. The interface protocol is designed for operation with the shutdown and UPS management software "C ompuWatch" from AEG.
41 EN The "CompuWatch" shutdown soft ware supports various operating systems, incl. Windows 98/ME, Windows NT/2000/XP, Windows Vista/7, Linux SUSE, Linux Red Hat, Novell Netware, IBM AIX, HP-UX, SUN Solaris, Mac OS X etc.
42 EN switch-off mechanism a nd manual restart by switching the "UPS On" does the UPS return to normal operating con dition. To install the emergency switch-off mechani sm, proceed as follows: 1. Check whether the UPS is switched off, and switch it off if necessary (standby operating mod e).
43 EN 9 T roubleshooting 9.1 Malfunctions The PROTECT B. PRO outputs detailed fault indica tions which you or the service personnel can use to quickly and precisely localise and interpret malfunctions which occur. Below you will find suggested processes/soluti ons for rem edying the problem you are experiencing.

51 EN 11 Storage, Removal and Disposal 11.1 Storage Long storage periods without occasional chargin g o r discharging can lead to permanent d amage of the battery. When the battery is stored at room temperature (20 °C to 30 °C), a self-discharge of 3-6% per m ont h takes place due to internal reactions.
52 EN By ensuring this prod uct is disposed of co rrectly, you will help prevent potential negative cons equences fort he environ ment and human health, which could otherwise be caused by inappropriate waste h andling of this product. The recycling of materials will help to cons erve natural resources.
