E-1 AC adaptor • Do not allow the power cord to become damaged or broken, and ne ver modify , over bend, twist, or pull it. Ne v er place heavy objects on the pow er cord, and nev er expose it to direct heat. A damaged power cord creates the danger of fire and electrical shock.
E-2 Location • A void lea ving the unit in areas subjected to high humidity and large amounts of dust. E-5 General Guide Using a Strap Y ou can attach a strap to the Label Printer as shown in the illustration. T o remove the strap , rev erse the procedure shown in the illustration. • Be sure to always hold on to the Label Printer itself when carrying it.
E-6 Replacing Batteries A handy low battery power indicator lets you know when battery power is get- ting too low f or proper operation. The message “ BA TT ” appears on the displa y if battery power is low when you perform any of the following operations.
E-7 INT? T urning Po wer On and Off Press ON to turn power on, and OFF to turn power off . Important! • If you are using the Label Printer for the first time, you should reset it first.
E-8 (a) (b) 4. Use a pencil or some other thin object to take up slack in the ink ribbon as shown in the illus- tration. Note that the tape does not move at this time. • If the ink ribbon is slack when you load it into the Label Printer , it can break or cause some other problem.
E-9 • Shift indicator This indicator appears when you press the SHIFT k e y . While this indicator is on the displa y , the ke yboard is shifted, so the letter k eys input upper-case alpha characters. The number k eys input the punctuation symbols mark ed in the up- per right corners of the keys.
E-10 .: ; , • Manual feed indicator This indicator appears when you are using manual feed instead of auto feed. Auto f eed is in effect when this indicator is not on the displa y . Important! • After you finish printing when using manual feed, be sure to always press FUNCTION and then PRINT (FEED) to feed the tape before cutting it.

E-20 Remove the ink ribbon cassette and check to make sure the ink ribbon is not broken. Next, take up any slack in the ink ribbon and then reload the tape cartridge. Important! • Before loading an ink ribbon cassette into the label printer , alwa ys make sure y ou take up any slack in the ink ribbon first.
