11 Saf ety Precautions Caution ➤ You may cause injury or damage the printer if you ignore any of these safety precautions. ■ Choosing a location Do not install the printer in a location that is unstable or subject to e xcessiv e vibration.

If you do not intend to use the printer f or a long period of time, unplug the printer after tur ning it off . When to Replace Ink T ank and Maintain Print Head 66 Routine Maintenance When to Replace Ink T ank and Maintain Print Head When an ink tank is empty , it must be replaced. The BJ Status Monitor (Windows) or the BJ Print Monitor (Macintosh) will initially advise you of a lo w ink le vel.
Replacing an Ink T ank 67 Routine Maintenance Replacing an Ink T ank When replacing an ink tank, check the model n umber very carefully . The pr inter will not print properly if the wrong ink tank is used, or installed in the incorrect position. With this printer , ink tanks must be installed from the right in the order indicated below .

Head cleaning can be perf or med either from the printer dr iv ers or from the pr inter itself . Note ➤ Cleaning the head consumes ink, so perform head cleaning only when necessary.

Cleaning the Printer 81 Routine Maintenance Cleaning the Printer During nor mal pr inting, ink and small scraps of paper accum ulate in the pr inter . When the accumulated debris becomes clearly visible, clean the printer by the f ollo wing procedure.

P a y special attention to cleaning the blac k panel and white rollers, as these are most susceptible to soiling.

Env elopes 90 Printing Media En velopes Use either European DL or US Com. #10 size env elopes . ■ Preparation f or Printing 1 Press down on all f our corners and edges of the env elopes to flatten them as shown belo w . 2 If the env elopes are curled, hold the opposite cor ners and gently bend them in the opposite direction.
Env elopes 91 Printing Media 3 If the leading edge of an env elope is puff ed up or curled, use a pen to press the env elope flat and sharpen the crease. The env elopes ma y jam in the printer if they are not completely flat and the edges are not aligned.
