10 Saf ety Precautions ■ Maintaining the printer Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the printer . There are no user serviceable par ts inside the printer . The printer contains high-voltage components . Ne v er attempt any maintenance procedure not described in this guide.
11 Saf ety Precautions Caution ➤ You may cause injury or damage the printer if you ignore any of these safety precautions. ■ Choosing a location Do not install the printer in a location that is unstable or subject to e xcessiv e vibration.

Compatible Media T ypes 97 Printing Media ■ W eight 64 to 105 g/m 2 (17 to 28 lb) Do not use paper heavier than this (e xcept f or suppor ted Canon-brand media), as it could jam in the printer . ■ T ypes The f ollowing types of media can be used. Env elopes 98 Printing Media En velopes Use either European DL or US Com. #10 size env elopes . ■ Preparation f or Printing 1 Press down on all f our corners and edges of the env elopes to flatten them as shown belo w . 2 If the env elopes are curled, hold the opposite cor ners and gently bend them in the opposite direction.
Env elopes 99 Printing Media 3 If the leading edge of an env elope is puff ed up or curled, use a pen to press the env elope flat and sharpen the crease. The env elopes ma y jam in the printer if they are not completely flat and the edges are not aligned.
Env elopes 100 Printing Media ■ Loading • Place env elopes lengthwise with the flap to the left and the address side f acing upwards . • Set the paper thickness le v er to the right. • Up to 10 env elopes can be loaded at once . Note ➤ If the envelopes still do not feed properly even after removing curl, clean the paper feed roller.
Env elopes 101 Printing Media The paper roller starts rotating ten times as it cleans. Repeat this three times. 3 Load a sheet of A4 or Letter sized plain paper in the printer. 4 Hold the RESUME/CANCEL button down and release as the POWER lamp flashes three times to feed the sheet.
