5 AC Ad apter (N ot Su pplie d) ● When usin g an AC adap ter (not su pplied ) to pow er the u nit, make sure to re ad the o perating manua l for the A C adapte r. ● Use only recomm ende d AC adap ters. I n additi on, do not use thes e AC adap ters with device s other than the scanne r.
6 ■ When d isconne cting the USB cabl e, grasp it fir mly by its connecto r. Do not pull directly on the USB cable, as this may damage or expose the cabl e’s inte rnal wi ring, res ulting in a fir e or el ectric s hock. ■ Leave suffi cient spac e aroun d the USB ca ble or po wer supply USB cable so that it can be disconn ected easily.

8 Attaching the Separation Pad Use the follo wing proc edure to attach the supplied separation pad before u sing th e scanner . A Open t he f eed tray . B Open the f eeder cover. C Attach t he separat ion pad. P U L L Remo ving the Se para tio n Pad The separ ation p ad is a c onsum able part.
9 D Close the feeder cover. Power Supply This scanner is powered via t he supplied USB cables. (The U SB con nector to which the scann er is co nnected on your compute r must be one c apable of supp lying 500 mA of p ower.) Using One USB Cabl e Using the USB cable allo ws you to scan using power from the compute r’s bus .
10 Using t he Sc anner Setting t he Auto Start s witch on the re ar of the s canner allows you to use the scann er in th e follow ing tw o ways. When Using the Scanner with the Auto Start Switch Set to ON Scann ing w ith the Scanne r Int ernal S oftw are CaptureO nTouc h Lite is p reinsta lled on this scan ner.
11 Scanning with Capt ureOnTou ch Lit e A Turn ON the comp uter. B Set the Aut o Start switc h on the s canner to ON. C Connec t the scann er to the comp uter us ing the supplied U SB cable.
12 When the scanner tur ns ON, the computer recogni zes the sc anner as a storag e devic e, and the auto pl ay screen appear s. When yo u click [C apture OnTouch Lite], Ca pture OnTou ch Lite star ts and t he mai n s creen ap pear s.
13 Click [Scanner se tting] to display th e [Scanner sett ing] dialog box, a nd to configure the basic sca n settings. A Specif y the scann ing mo de (col or, gra yscale, bl ack and w hite (binary)) . If you select [ Auto Color Detect ion], th e scanner automati cally d etects wheth er a d ocument is in color or bl ack-and- white.

16 Scanning with Capt ureOnTou ch Do not connect the scanner to the computer before Insta lling Cap tureOnTo uch. Insert the Setup di sc into the compute r’s DVD-ROM d rive. ▼ Click [Typical Installation] in the setup men u, and follow the instruc tions on the sc reen to complete the installat ion.

20 Probl em 5 D ocumen ts fed a skew a re ca using s canned images to be slanted . Solutio ns (1) Ali gn the do cument g uides t o fit the documen ts as clo sely as p ossible, and pl ace the d ocuments so that they fee d in straight. (2) Enab le [Deske w] in the settings o f the sc anner dr iver.
21 Replaci ng Part s The f eed roll er and se parat ion pad i nside the scann er wear with scanni ng. If the feed rol ler an d separa tion pa d are worn, doc ument s may not f eed co rrectly and pap er jam s may occu r. When do cumen t feed per formance deterio rates, r eplace t he feed roll er and sep aration pad.
22 C Open the ro ller cover. D Lift up th e roller lock lever, and slide it to the left. E Remove the f eed rolle r. F Attach t he feed ro ller. Al ign the not ch on the roller wit h the pi n on t he s cann er.
23 I Close the feeder cover. Use the follo wing pr ocedure to rep lace th e sepa ration pad. A Open t he f eed tray . B Open the f eeder cover. C Remove the separatio n pad.
24 E Close the feeder cover. Make sure to re set the scan ner’s intern al cou nters using the following proced ure whe never you repl ace t he feed r oller an d sepa ration pad.
25 G Click the [Mai ntenan ce] tab. H Click [Rese t] for bot h [Current Roller s] and [Curre nt Pad]. The coun ter for [Curr ent Roll ers] and [Curre nt Pad] resets.
