5 Instruction Manual Canon Printers IP4200, IP5200, MP800, MP 830 – 100ml Series Congratulations on your purchase of a rih a c tm Continuous Ink Suppl y System (CISS). Before using the system please read this manual carefully . It will help you install the system correctly and ensure trouble free printing.
6 b) After performing a head clea n you must then perform Print Check Pattern . The computer will automatic ally ask you this, howev er if it does not, simply choose to perform a ‘Nozzle Check’ on the printer maintenance screen.
7 2) Prep aring your new CISS for inst allation Please ensure the following are present with your CISS. (1) Air filters x5 (2) Silicone nozzle seal x 5 (3) Cable ties (spare) (4) Double sided t ape ta.
8 3) Att aching Cartridge Chip s – un chipped CISS unit only If you have purchased a pre chipped system please procee d to section 4) on page 10 Y our origi nal cartridge chips must be trans ferred onto the CISS cartridges. Please follow the following steps carefully a) T urn on your printer and open the cover .
9 d) Examine the rear of the chip to ensure the LED has not been damaged or cut off. undamaged cartridge chip damaged cartridge chip e) Place the chip onto the corresponding co loured CISS cartridge, ensuring that the small plastic lugs are inserting into the chip holes.
10 4) Prep aring your ink reservoirs a) Carefully remove the sma ll travel plugs on the CISS, leaving the filler plug in place. b) Using the syringe, remove any excess ink from the inner air balance chamber . The chamber does not have to be comple tely empty for the CISS to function correctly .
11 THE FOLLOWING STEPS ARE VER Y IM PORT ANT FOR ALL CANON PRINTERS . 5) Inserting the silicone nozzle seals. a) Remove the printer head from your print er by lif ting the print head lock arm. The print head will then lift out b) Remove the 5 silicone seals from your kit.
12 e) Incorrectly placed s ilicone seals can cause po or printing quality . Please ensure that the silicone seals do not move from position when inserting the cartridges.
13 7) T ube set up (IP Series Only) a) Remove the backing to the double sided t ape and atta ch the metal tube support arm approximately 6cm from the front as pictured below . Please be careful not to twist the tubing before connecting it to the printer .
14 d) Peel off the backing t ape to the tube connection and place it as pictured below . Once again please ensure not to twist or bend the tubing. e) Place the spare travel or filler plug in the printer lid sensor button. This will keep the switch permanently activated as y our printer lid will no longer close enough to activate this switch.
15 8) T ube set up (MP800 an d MP830 only) a) Using a Phillips head screwdriver , remo ve the plastic cartridge bay sealing cover from the scanner lid. S tore this cover away with your printer manuals etc, in the event you need to re-attach it for print er warranty return issues.
16 e) Run the tubing as per the following exit ing through the front of the printer . Please refer to section 1 1) Finishing T ouches on 22 to complete the inst allation process.
17 9) T ube set up (MP500 ONL Y) a) Attach the two black clip s as pictured below . The clip s have a piece of double sided tape att ached, simply remove the backing and attach. This will prevent the scanner lid from crus hing the silicone tubing. b) Run the tubing as per the following photographs c) Adjustments to the tube length may be required.
18 e) Close the scanner lid and ch eck that the ink flow will not be restricted by the lid. Please note after the inst allation of the CISS the printer may not registered that the lid is closed. If this occurs plea se place some tape across the trigger to keep it activated.
19 10) T ube set up (MP530 on ly) a) Feed the cartridges into the printer through the scanner lid swing arm (as depicted below) and click t he cartridges in place as per the IP4200 Manual section 6 ‘inserting the cartridges’. b) Attach a raiser clip to the printer (u sing double sided t ape) as show in the following photographs.
20 c) Attach tubing holder clip at the foll owing point d) Attach the large raiser c lip s to the left and right side of the printer case. This allows the scanner lid to close wi thout crushing the feeder tubes. Lef t Side Right side e) The scanner lid has moulde d plastic p a rts which should fit into the recess of the metal tubing rod.
21 f) Adjustments to the tube length may be required. T o check this, move the cartridge holder left and right to each end of the printer . It should reach both ends with ease.
22 11) Final touches (all models) a) Place the CISS unit on the left hand side of your printer and Insert all the air filters into the top of each air bal ance chamber . The larger end should be inserted into the air balance chamber . b) Release the tube clamp on the front of the CISS by rolling it up.
23 12) Refilling your CISS a) Do not allow the ink levels to fall below the refill line. T o refill each ink simply remove the air filters and replace the travel plugs (to prevent the air balance chambers filling with ink) for the co lour in which you are refilling.
24 13) Priming a) Only prime your CISS if excess air (5cm or more) is present in the tubing. It is recommended that priming is conducted in a suitabl e workspace. Please ensure to wear gloves & have some tissues handy to soak up excess ink before undertaking any priming.
25 e) Draw air into the syringe (DO NOT A T T ACH A NEEDLE) then place it in the hole left by the removed travel plug. f) Push down very slowly on the syringe, pushing air into the reservoir . It is very important that you push down very sl owly (use the gauge on the side of the syringe and do not push down more than 1ml at a time).
26 14) Cartridge chip disable - Low ink. a) Flashing printer cartridges Y our canon cartridges will flas h when the chip thinks that ink is running low . Y ou will find that the following me ssage will appear when printing. Please continue to print as normal when this message appears.
27 W arning message #2 Press Y es to continue. W arning Message #3 Press Y es to continue. W arning Message #4 Press and hold the resume/p aper feed button (or the stop/ reset button for the MP series printers) for 5 second s then release it. This w ill disable your printer ’s capability of reading ink levels for the indi vidual cartridge.
28 15) T rouble Shooting Please cont act ri h a c tm on (+61)3 9005 5555 If any of the following trouble shooting suggestions do not fix your problems.
29 d) Ink T ank Error . If your printer is stating that an ink t ank error has occurred please check the following if the message does not i dentify the problem cartridge ; i) Check the ink feed tubing is neither too tight nor too l oose as per p age 13.
30 Does the printer still display ‘Ink tank errors have occurred’ on the screen? Re-click the cartridge back into position and repeat the steps in section 16) for the next cartridge in sequence . Does the error message indicate that the cartridge is not being recognised? Something is interfering with the chip or the chip is faulty .
31 17) Canon Error Messages If one or more of your ink cartridges cannot be recognised, please ensure that the cartridges are c licked into position and/or the chips are correctl y placed on the cartridges. The most common cause of this issue is the blockage or damage of the LED as per page 9.
32 Service error 5100 will occur if you have the silicone tubi ng fitted too tightly on your printer . Please check the tubing by follow steps 7)b) on p a ge 13 again carefully . Y ou will then need to turn off and on your pri nter at the power button.

34 18) W arranty Please note that your CISS has a manuf actures warranty of 3 months from date of purchase. Y our warrant y will be void if the system is incorrectly handled.
