Basic Printing 2 Ba s ic P rinting T urning on the Print er 1 Press the PO WER button. The P P OWER lamp fl ashes while the printer warms up and c hang es to steady (non- flashin g) green when the printer is ready . Note Thi s Quick St ar t Guide describes some of the features of your iP2000 printer and how to use them.
Basic Printing 3 Loading Paper This section desc ribes how to load paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder and the Front Sheet Feeder . Print Media to Av oid Do not use the following types of paper . Using suc h paper will not only produc e uns atisfactory results, but can al so cause the printer to jam or malfunction.
Basic Printing 4 can spec if y that a Letter paper i s always fed fr om the Front Sheet Feeder whenever you print. So, it i s convenient for r egular use.
Basic Printing 5 2 Prepare to load paper. Note • Set the Paper Thic kness Lever to the l eft ( ) for plain paper . Move to the right position ( ) only for envelopes and T - Shirt T ran sfers. See "C C anon Speciality Media " on pag e 12. • Y ou can also select the paper sour ce in the print er driver.
Basic Printing 6 3 Load the paper . Loadin g the Plain Paper Note • Do not stac k more than 50 sheets in the Paper Output T ray . • Do not touch the printed surfac e until the ink dries. For specific drying times, refer to the instructions pac kag ed with your media.
Basic Printing 7 Loadin g the Envelopes Envelopes can be fed from the Aut o Sheet Feeder only . Use either DL or US C omm. #10 size e nvelo pes. (4) Select E E nvelope in M M edia T ype , and then select C C omm. Env. #10 or D D L Env . in Page Size .

Basic Printing 9 Lo ading Paper in the Fr ont Sheet F eeder 1 Flatten the four c orners of the paper before lo ading it. 2 Prepare to load paper. Basic Printing 12 C anon Specia lity Media * When paper cannot be fed normally , load the necess ary numb er of shee ts in the Auto Sheet F eeder or the Front Sh eet Feeder with them separating from each other to avoid them from stick ing together.
Basic Printing 13 l Printing with W indows 1 Cre ate a document or open a file to print. Note • When using plain paper (64 gsm or 17 l b), up to 150 sheets can be set. Set the Paper Thic kness Lever to the l eft and select P P lain Paper from the printer driver M M edia T ype .

Basic Printing 17 3 Specify the required settings. (1) Select P P rint from the applic ation software's F F ile menu. (3) Select the M M edia T yp e from the pop-up menu. (4) Select the print mode appropriate to your document from the P P rint Mode .

Advanced Printing 20 Adv anc ed Printing Printing Photographs Dir ectly from a Digita l Camer a C onnecting a digital camera or c amcorder to printer allows y ou to print recorded images directly wi thout using a computer. This printer suppor ts both PictBridge and C anon Bubble Jet Direct.
Advanced Printing 21 1 T urn on the printer. 2 Load the paper int o the Auto Sheet Feeder . Note • When printing with the digital c amera c o nnected to the printer, on ly the Auto Sheet Feeder c an be used.
Advanced Printing 22 3 C onnect the digital c amera to the printer. (1) Make s ure the camer a is turned off . (3) T urn on and set up the camera for direct printing. When the connection between the c amera and printer ha s been estab lished, the POWER l amp on the printer flashes onc e.

Advanced Printing 27 Adjusting Print Quality f or Photographs Improv ing Printed Imag es T wo important factors co ntrol the quality and output of yo ur printed images: Paper and Ink Usin g recommended C anon paper, spec iality medi a, and inks for printing photographs can s ignificantly improve t he quality of your printouts.

Advanced Printing 29 T o automatical ly optimize the image: Photo Optimizer PRO automatic ally adjusts the photographic image cre ated with a digital c amera. Use this fe ature to compen sate for u nsatisf actory color balanc e and over - or under-exposure before printing.
Advanced Printing 30 T o use Vivid Photo option: Vivid Photo intensifies bac kground colors suc h a s fields, trees, ocea ns and skies, while maint aining natur al skin tones in the imag es. T o use V ivid Photo, sel ect the V V iv id Photo chec k box on the E E ffects ta b.
Advanced Printing 31 T o reduce noise from imag es captured with a digital camer a: Photo Noise Reduction function r educes noi se from blue portions, suc h as the sky and dark portions of the images c aptured with y our digital camer a. T o use Photo Noi se Reduction, select the P P hoto Noise Reduction chec k box on the Effects tab.
Advanced Printing 32 Saving and R ecal ling Driver Settings When you c hange printer driver settings for a spec ific print job, such a s printing bl ack and white photos, or printin g documents with a special bac kground, you c an save and name these settings for future use on si milar print jobs.

Printing Maintenance 38 Printing Mainten anc e When Printing Bec omes F aint or C olors ar e Incorr ect When printing becomes faint or c olors are incorrect, the Print Head Nozzles ar e probab ly clogged. Follow the proc edures below to clean the nozzles.
Printing Maintenance 39 Printing the Nozz le Chec k Patt ern Print the nozzle c hec k pattern to determine whether the ink ejects properly fr om the Print Head Nozzles. U se this function when printed r esults are blurred or the c olor is incorr ect. (1) Ensure th at the printer is turned on, and then load a sheet of L etter paper.

Printing Maintenance 42 Examining the Nozz le Chec k Patt ern The nozzle c heck patt ern should appear as fol lows when ink is disc harged pr operly. Examine the nozz le c heck p attern output by the printer . Lines miss ing or white stripes in this pattern require ru nning Print Head cleaning.
Printing Maintenance 43 If there are neither mis sing lines nor white stripes in the nozzle c heck pattern, clic k E E xit to finish the nozz le chec k. If there are neither mis sing lines nor white stripes in the nozzle c heck pattern, clic k Q Q uit to finish the nozz le chec k.
Printing Maintenance 44 Print Head C leaning If miss ing lines or white stripes are found in the printed nozzle c heck pattern, perform Print Head cle aning to unclog the Print Hea d Nozzle s. C leaning the Print Hea d consumes ink, so perform Print Head cleaning on ly when necess ar y .

Print Head deep cl eaning cons umes more ink than standard Print He ad cleaning, so perform this proc edure only when nec essary .
Printing Maintenance 48 (4) When the confirmation mes sage is di splayed, clic k O O K . Print Head deep cl eaning starts when the P P OWER lamp star ts blin king. Do not perform any other operations until the Print Head deep cleaning i s completed (about one minute).

(1) Double-clic k the hard disk ic on where the printer driver was inst alled, the Application s folder, and the U U tilities folder.
Printing Maintenance 53 4 Align the Print Head. (1) Look at the print out. From the pattern s, select the most even, least irregu lar patterns and ent er the number that corresponds. Not e If it is difficult to pic k up th e best pattern on C olumn H, pic k the setting that produc es th e l east notice able vertical white stripes.
Printing Maintenance 54 Repl acing an Ink T ank If the print resu lt is not improved aft er maintenanc e suc h as Print Hea d cleaning, an ink t ank runs out of ink. Repl ace the ink tank w ith a new one. When replac ing an ink tank, c heck the model number very careful ly.
Printing Maintenance 55 4 Insert the ink tank. (1) Inser t a new ink tank into a slot. (2) Press on the t ab until the ink t ank snaps firmly into pl ace. 5 C lose the Front Co ver. The Print Head Holder moves to the right. Important • Do not re-attac h the protective c ap once y ou have removed it.
Printing Maintenance 56 Re setting the Ink C ount er When an ink tank is repl aced, the ink c ounter must be reset. The low ink warning i s only displa yed properly if the ink counter is r eset.

The Low Ink W arning ha s been preset to be automatic ally displ ayed. When you reset the ink counter, it wi ll as sume that the ink tank is full regardles s of how muc h ink actually r emains.
Printing Maintenance 60 How to Di spla y Low Ink W arning C orrectly • Reset the ink c ounter every time you install a new ink t ank. The ink coun ter cannot work corr ectly unless y ou sync hronize it with the actual ink level. The ink cou nter can only be adjusted when it i s reset at the time a new ink tank is installe d.

Troubleshooting 67 Paper Does Not Feed Properly Paper Jams in the Inside of the Pr inter Remove the paper ac cording to the fo llowing procedur e. 1. Open the Rear C over, and slowly pull the paper out. • If you cannot pul l the paper out, ensure that the Paper Output T ray is pulled out, turn the printer off and turn it back on.
Troubleshooting 68 Handling Err or Messag es When a printer error occurs, the P P OWER/ERROR l amp flas hes. The number of flashes indicates the type of error that ha s occurred. C ount the flashes and t ake the appropriate action to correct the error .
