4 14 Lightning — For added pr otection of this product durin g a lightning storm, or when it is left unattended and u nused for long periods of time, disconnect i t from the wall outlet an d disconnect the antenna. This will prevent damage to the product due to lightning and power -line surges.
5 How to Select a DVD Disc There are many types of DVD discs but this camcorder uses only the following thr ee types of 8 cm mini DVD discs: DVD-R, DVD-R DL and DVD-R W . Read the differ ences between them and select the di sc that best fits your needs.
6 Adv antages of Using DVDs No need to worry about r ecording over a tape. When you use a DVD, the camcor der will autom atically r ecord on the empty space of the disc. So you don't hav e to worry about mistake nly recor ding over a precious memory .
7 Available features depend on the DVD disc used 1 Only scen es in the playlist can be divided. 2 Disc finalizat ion is the processing of the free space (the unrecorded area) on the disc in order to mak e it playable on external DVD devices ( 49 ). Playback ca nnot be guaranteed with a ll external DVD devices.

40 • Video Flexible Recording: Changing the Shutter Speed Use the automatic expo sure (AE) program to us e functions like the white balance or imag e effec ts, or give priori ty to the shutter speed. Use faster shutter speeds to record subjects mo ving quickly .

Video • 49 Finalizing the Disc T o play the disc you r ecorded on a DVD player , a computer’ s DVD drive or other digital device, you need to finalize it first . Y ou do not need to finalize the disc to play back your rec ord in gs w it h t he camcord er connected to the TV .
50 • Video Disc Playback on External Devices After finalizing th e disc with your recor dings, you can play it on DVD players compat ible with the type of disc used (DVD-R, DVD-R DL or DVD-R W). Y ou cannot play back discs on an external DVD device if the discs hav e not yet been finalized.

The built- in lithium battery is r echar ged while you use the camcor der; however , it will become totally dischar ged if you do not use the camcor der for a bout 3 months.
