10 • Before using the product, please ensure that you read the safety precautions described below. Always ensure that the product is used correctly. • The safety precautions noted on the following pages are intended to prevent injuries to yourself and other persons, or damage to the equipment.
Safety Precautions 11 • Turn the camera off in places where camera use is prohibited. The electromagnetic waves emitted by the camera may interfere with the o peration of electronic instruments and other devices.
Safety Precautions 12 • In regular use, small amounts of smoke may be emitted from the flash. This is due to the h igh intensity of the flash burn ing dust and foreign materials st uck to the front of the unit. Please use a cot ton swab to remove dirt, dust or other foreign matter from the flash to prevent heat build-up and damage to the unit.
13 Prepare for sho oting as fol lo ws. z Thread the end of the strap thro ugh the str ap hole ( ), and then pul l the other end o f the strap thro ugh the loop on t he threaded en d () . z Place the st ra p around your wr ist. z When shooti ng, keep your arms close to y our body and hold the camera secur ely to prevent it from movin g .
Initial Preparations 14 Before use , charge th e battery wit h the inclu ded charge r. Be sure to charge the battery initially, b ecause the camera is not sold with the battery ch arged. Remove the cover. Insert the battery. z After alignin g the S marks on the batt ery and charger, ins er t the ba tte ry by pushing it in ( ) and do w n ( ).
Initial Preparations 15 Insert the inclu de d ba tte ry . Open the cover. z Slide the co ver ( ) and open it ( ). Insert the battery. z While pressing the battery lock in the directio n of the arrow, insert the ba ttery facing as sho wn and push it i n until it clic ks into the loc ked positi on.
Initial Preparations 16 Insert a memor y ca rd (sold sepa rately). Note that befor e using a new memory card (or a memory card formatted in another devi ce ), you should forma t the memor y ca rd with this came ra (p. 164). Open the cover. z Slide the co ver ( ) and open it ( ).
Initial Preparations 17 z Open the cove r and push the memory card in until it clic ks, and the n slowly rele ase the memory card. X The memory card will pop up. A screen for se tting the dat e and time is disp layed the f ir st time you tur n t he camera on.
Initial Preparations 18 Set the local time zone. z Press the qr button s to choose your local time zone. Finish the setu p proc e ss . z Press the m button when finis hed. After a confirmation message, th e setting screen is no longer displayed. z To turn off the camera, press the power button.
Initial Preparations 19 Adjust the date and ti me as follows. Access the camera menu. z Press the n button. Choose [Date/Time]. z Move the zo om lever to c hoose the 3 ta b. z Press the op buttons t o choose [Date/ Time], and th en press the m button.
Initial Preparations 20 The display language can be changed as neede d. Enter Playback mode. z Press the 1 button. Access the setting screen. z Press and hol d the m button, and then immediately pr es s the n button. 21 Follow thes e instruction s to turn the camera on, shoot still image s or movies, and then v iew them. For fully auto matic selectio n of the optimal settings for spec ific scenes, s imply let the came ra determine the subjec t and shoo ting conditi ons.
Trying the Camera Out 22 Shoot. Shooting Still Images Focus. z Press the shutter but ton lightly, halfway down. The camer a beeps twice af ter focusing, a nd AF frame s are disp layed to indicate im ag e areas in focu s. Shoot. z Press the shutter but ton all the w ay down.

Using Face ID 60 z Choose [Add to Registry], and then choos e [Add a New Face]. Register face information. z Aim the camera s o that the face of the person you want to reg ister is in si de the gray fra me at the cent er of the screen. z A white fra me on the perso n’s face indi cates that the f ace is reco gnized.
Using Face ID 61 X The [Edit Pro file] scre en is displayed . Enter a name. z Press the m button. z Press the opqr buttons to choo se a character , and then press th e m button to enter it. z Up to 10 charact ers can be use d. z Choose or and press the m but ton to move the cu rsor.
Using Face ID 62 Continue registering face information. z To register u p to 4 more points of fa ce informati on (expressi on s or angles), repeat steps 2 – 3. z Registere d faces are more ea sily recogniz ed if you add a variety of fac e inf ormation.

Using Face ID 65 Choose the name of the person to overwrite. z Press the opqr buttons to choo se the name of a pe rson to ov erwrite, an d then press the m button. z If 4 or less face infor mation slot s are registered , follow step 5 on p. 65 to add more face info.
