1 Start Here HL-5380DN Quick Setup Guide (EU only) Before you can use the printer , read this Quick Setup Guide fo r the correct setup and installation .

3 2 Install the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly a Remove th e packing ta pe from the outside of the printer. b Press the front cover release button and open the front cover a . c Unpack the drum unit and toner cartridg e assembly. d Gently shak e it from s ide to si de several t imes to distribute the toner evenly inside the assembly.
4 3 Load paper in the paper tray a Pull the paper tray completely out of the prin ter. b While pressing the blue paper -guide release lever a , slide the paper guides to fit the paper size you are loading in th e tray. Make sure that the guides are firmly in the slots.
5 4 Print a test page a Make sure that the printe r power switch is off. Connect the AC power cord to the printe r. b Turn on the prin ter power switch. c Unfold support flap1. d After the printer has fini shed warming up, the LCD shows READY . e Press Go .

10 Windows ® USB j Click Finish . Note • If you want to register your product on-lin e, check On-Line Registration . • If you do not want to set your printer as Default printer, uncheck Set as Default Prin ter . • If you want to disable the Statu s Monitor, uncheck Enable Status Monitor .
11 Macintosh USB Windows ® Macintosh USB For USB Interface Cable Users 7 Connect the printer to your Macintosh and install the driver a Remove the labe l covering the USB interface connector. b Connect the USB cable to the USB connector marked with a symbol, and then co nnect the cable t o your Mac intosh.
12 Macintosh USB i Choose the printer you wish to connect, and then click OK . j When this screen appears, click OK . Finish The installation is now complete.
13 Windows ® Parallel Windows ® Parallel For Parallel Interface Cable Users 7 Install the driver and connect the printer to your computer a Turn off the prin ter power switch. b Make sure the parallel interface cable is NOT connected to the printer, an d then begin installing the printer driver.

Note • If there is more than one of the sa me printer model connected on your ne twork, the MAC Address (Ethernet Addr ess) will be displayed after the model name.
22 For Network Users BRAdmin Light utility (For Windows ® users) The BRAdmin Light is a utility fo r initial setup of Brother network connected devices. It can also search for Brother products in a TCP/IP environment, view the statu s and configure basic network sett ings, such as IP Address.
23 For Network Users BRAdmin Light utility (For Mac OS X users) The BRAdmin Light is a utility for initial setup of Brother network co nnected devices. It can also search for Brother products on your netw ork, view th e status an d config ure basic network settings, such as IP Address from a computer running Mac OS X 10.
24 For Network Users Web Based Management (web browser) The Brother pr int server is equip ped with a web serv er that allows you to monitor its status or chang e some of its configuration settings, using HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol). a Start your web browser.
25 Other Information Safety precautions To use the printer safely If you DO NOT follow these safety instructions, t here is a possibility of a fire, electrical shock, burn or suffocation. Please keep these instructions for la ter reference and read them before atte mpting any maintenance.
26 Other Information CAUTION Lightning and power surges can damag e this product! We recommend that you use a quality surge pr otection device on the AC power outlet, or unplug the cords during a lightning storm. After you have just used th e printer, some internal pa rts of the printer will be extr emely hot.
