Hold the end o f the thread with your l eft hand, and t hen guid e the thread through the gro ove, followi n g the arrows in the illu stration.

SEWING 42 ■ Using the Knee Lifter Using the knee lifte r, you can raise and lo wer the presser foo t with your knee, lea ving both hand s free to hand le the fabr ic. a Align the tab s on t he knee lifter w ith the notches in th e jack, and then in sert the knee lifter as far as possible.

ADJUSTI NG STIT CH SETTIN GS 44 ADJUSTING STITCH SETTING S When a stitch is s elected, th e most a ppropriate stitch w idth, stitc h length, and uppe r thread t ension are automa tically set . However, if needed, y ou can change any of the se ttings as de scribed in this sec tion.
USEFUL FUNCT IONS Se wing Ba si cs 45 2 Adjustin g the Thread Tension The def ault thread te nsion, which is au tomatically set, can normal ly be used rega rdle ss of the type of threa d or fabric be ing sewn. However, w ith some fabric an d thread c ombination s, the thre ad tensio n may nee d to be adjust ed.
