6 Getting Started What’ s in the Kit? Y our Adaptec A VC-3610 kit includes: A daptec A VC-3610 Stand R emote C ontrol A /C P ower A dapter USB Cab le Composi te A/V Cab le C able S plitter FM Rad io.
7 System Requirements T o use your Adaptec A VC-3610, you need: ■ Desktop or laptop computer manufactured by a Microsoft Media Center partner , with: ■ W indows XP Media Center 2005 operating system ■ A vaila ble US B 2.
8 This is Y our Adaptec A VC-3610 Note: You can also take your Ad aptec A VC-3610 out of its stand and la y it flat on a table. Note: When connecting your Adaptec A VC-3610, you may not use all the ports or all the cables included in the kit.
9 This T able describes the ports on the back of the Adaptec A VC-3610 . The ports on the front of the Adaptec A VC-3610, marked Input 2, are only used to connect the second TV sour ce in dual-tuner setups (see page 15 ). This T able describes these ports .
10 Setting Up Y our Adaptec A VC-3610 This section pr ovides setup instr uctions for your Adaptec A VC-3610. Start Here! This Guide offers many ways to set up your A VC-3610. Befor e you start cabling and connecting, make sure you know which set of instructions to follow .
11 Based on your TV sour ce, cable type, and conne ction type, find your setup instructions and get s tarted: Dual-tuner Setup Options In dual-tuner setups, you have multi ple cabling options: ■ T w.
12 Regular TV or Cable TV Without Set-top Bo x (Single-tuner) For this setup, you will use the ports on the back of the Adaptec A VC-3610. Y ou will need: ■ One RF coaxial cable ■ One USB cable Note: All r equir ed cables ar e included in the kit.
13 Satellite or Cable TV With Set-top Bo x (Single-tuner) For this setup, you will use the ports on the back of the Adaptec A VC-3610. Y ou will need: ■ T w o RF coaxial cables ■ One USB cable ■ IR blaster cable ( optional — enables channel-changing ) Note: All r equir ed cables ar e included in the kit.
14 2 Connect an RF coaxial cable from the TV In port on your set- top box t o your TV wall jack. Refer to your set- t op box documentation for help making this connection. Note: T o improve video quality , you can use an S-V ideo cable or composite video cabl e instead of an RF coaxial cable to make this connection.
15 Regular TV or Cable TV Without Set-top Bo x (Dual-tuner) For this setup, you will use the ports on the back of the Adaptec A VC-3610. Y ou will need: ■ Three RF coaxial cables ■ One USB cable ■ Cable splitter Note: All r equir ed cables ar e included in the kit.
16 Satellite or Cable TV With Set-top Bo x (Dual-tuner) For this setup, you mus t use either two sate llite set-top boxes or two cable set-top boxes. (Y ou canno t use one of each.) Both set-top boxes must use the same service pr ovider . Refer to your set-top box documentation for additional connection information.
17 2 Connect the Adaptec A VC-3610 to your set-top boxes, shown in the Figure in Step 1 on page 16 as Set-top Box (A) and Set-top Box (B). a Connect an RF co axial cable fr om the TV1 jack on th e A VC-3610 to the TV Out port on Set-top Box (A) .
18 Satellite or Cable TV With Set-top Bo x (Composite Video Connection) If you are using a satellite or cable set-top box, you can obtain improved vide o quality by using a composite A/V cable instead of an RF coaxial cable when connecting your Adaptec A VC-3610.
19 T o connect the Adaptec A VC-3610: 1 Connect the USB cable fr om the USB port on the back of the A VC-3610 to a USB 2.0 port on your computer . 2 Connect the composite video ca ble from the Adaptec A VC-3610 to your set-top box, matching th e colors of the cable connectors to the colors of the ports.
20 3 Connect an RF coaxial cable from the TV In port on the set-top box to your TV wall jack. 4 Connect the IR blaster cable from the Adaptec A VC-3610 to your set-top box. Y ou must connect the IR blaster cable to be able to change channels. Note: For dual-tuner connections, fo llow the instructions in Step 5 on page 17 .
21 Satellite or Cable TV With Set-top Bo x (S-Video Connection) If you are using a satellite or cable set-top box, you can obtain improved vi deo quality by us ing an S-V ideo cable instead of an RF coaxial cable when connectin g your Adaptec A VC-3610.
22 T o connect the Adaptec A VC-3610: 1 Connect the USB cable fr om the USB port on the Adaptec A VC-3610 to a USB 2.0 port on your computer . 2 Connect the composite video ca ble from the Adaptec A VC-3610 to your set-top box.
23 3 Connect an S-V ideo cable from the Adaptec A VC-3610 to your set-top box: ■ Single-tuner connection —Use the S-V ideo port on the back of the Adaptec A VC-3610 to connect to your set-top box. ■ Dual-tuner connectio n — Use th e S-V ideo port on the back of the Adaptec A VC-3610 to connect Set-top Box (A).
24 Connecting an FM T uner Y ou can listen to FM radio on your computer by connecting the included FM radio antenna cable (see page 9 ). Note: Y ou can’t use your Adaptec A VC-3610 to listen to FM radio and watch TV at the same time.
25 Completing the Setup T o complete the setup of your Adaptec A VC-3610: 1 Connect the AC adapter . (See page 9 if you need help locating the Power port.) The Status Light lights up solid green. (For mor e inf ormation about the Status Light, see page 31 .
26 6 Follow the on-scr een instructions to set up Media Center . Refer to the W indows Media Center online help for more information. Confirming the Setup T o ensure that the Adaptec A VC-3610 has been set up properly , you may want to double-check that it appears in the W i ndows Device Manager .
27 Using the Remote Contr ol The remote contr ol is designed to work with W indows XP Media Center 2005. Y ou can use it to open and navigate Media Cente r , change channels, view and r ecord TV programs, and more.
28 Button Descripti on Green Wi n d o w s Start button Opens W indows XP Media Center 2005. My TV , My Music, My Pictures, My V i deos Open media folders in W indows. STOP Stops the selected media. Whe n you press STOP while you’re watching TV , the Adaptec A VC-3610 continues to recor d in the background.
29 SKIP ■ In live TV or re cor ded TV , move s forwar d 30 seco nds. ■ In the Program Guide, moves forwar d 12 hours. BACK Returns to the previous window in Media Center . MORE Displays additional informatio n about a sele cted me dia file—when available—such as artist information or program summary .

31 Need Help? First, check the Status Light ( page 8 ), which is solid gr een or blinking green when the Adaptec A VC-3610 is connected and working pr operly .
32 Need Help with the Adaptec A VC-3610? The Status Light is blinking green, b ut I can’t see TV . ■ Check that the video drivers on your computer are installed properly . Y ou may need to uninstall, then reinstal l them. Refer to your computer ’s documentation for more information.
33 The Adaptec A VC-3610 isn’t receivi ng the remote control signal. If the Status Light does not flash re d briefly when you try to use the remote, check that it is li sted in Device Manager: 1 In the Media Center softwar e, select Start , right-click My Computer , the n se lect Properties .
34 Need Help with the FM Radio? Why can’t I watch or recor d live TV and listen to the radio at the same time? ■ The radio uses the same channel as TV1 — whe n the FM tuner is operating, the TV tuner is deactivated. ■ Check to see if you used the Input 2 ports (see page 8 ) in your setup instead of the Input 1 port s.
