5 SECTION 2: ASSEMBLING YOUR SNOW THROWER NOTE: Any r eference in this manual to the l eft or right side of the s now thr ower is ob served from the operator ’s position . Unpacking • Remove s crews from th e top sides an d ends of th e ship ping cr ate.

7 b. Engage the tr action con trol an d attempt to move them ma chine both forwa rd and rearward. You shou ld experi ence res istance as the wheels shoul d not be turni ng. • Move the s hift lever into the fast reverse (R2) position and repeat the previous steps (a & b).
8 Shif t Lever The shif t lever is loc ated in th e center of the handle panel and is used to de termine bo th ground sp eed and directi on of trave l. It can be mo ved in to any of eight position s. See Fi gure 7. Forward Your s now thr ower has si x forw ard ( F) s peeds.
9 Electric S tarter (If Equipped) WARNING: The electr ic starter is equipped with a grounded three-wire power cord and p lug and is des igned to operate on 120 volt AC household current . It must be u sed wit h a p roperly grounded three- prong receptacle at all times to avoid the possibility of elect ric shock.
10 Operat ing Tips NOTE: Allo w the en gine to warm up for a few m inutes as the eng ine wi ll not dev elop fu ll power until it reach es operatin g temperatu re. WARNING: Muffle, engine, and surround- ing areas become ho t and can cau se a burn. Do not touch.
11 Figure 9 Shift Rod Adjustment To adjust the s hift rod , proceed as follows: • Remove the hairpin c lip and slide the conne ctor up to separa te the upper sh ift rod from the lower shift rod. See Fig ure 10. Fig ure 10 • Plac e shift lever in si xth (6) positio n.
12 SECTION 6: MAINTAINING YOUR SNOW THROWER WARNING: Before lubricating, repairing, or inspecting, disengage all c lutch levers and stop engine . Wait until all moving parts have co me to a comple te stop. Disconnect spark plug wire a nd ground it against the e ngine to prevent unint ended starting.
13 Tract ion Control / Auger Control Lock The cams on the ends of the control r ods which interlo ck the tractio n driv e and aug er drive con trols must be lubri cated at leas t once a seas on or every 25 hours of o peration. The cams can be a ccesse d beneat h the h andle pa nel.
14 NOTE: Loosen ing th e six n uts th at conne ct the fram e to the auger hou sing may a id in belt r emoval . • Lift the auge r belt from the auger pul ley, and sl ip belt between the suppo rt bracket an d the auger pulley. S ee Figur e 18. • Replace the auger drive belt by following instruc tions in r evers e order.
15 • Reasse mble new fri ction wheel rub ber to the frictio n wheel pl ates and hub, tighteni ng the six screws in r otatio n and with equal force. • Position the friction whee l assem bly up onto the pin of the shift rod as sembly , and slide the shaft thro ugh t he as sembl y.
