3 1. NAS Starter Utility 1. 1.1 NAS Starte r Utility Installation After you install a new hard drive on the NSA310, please make sure to use the NAS Starter Utility to d iscover and access the NSA 310 to assign an IP address by DHCP or a static IP. The steps are as below.
4 Figure 5 . Installati on is finis hed. 2. 1.2 NS A 310 Initialization After successful installation, click the “ NAS Starter Utility ” . The first screen of NSU shows the result of NSA Discovery. Click your NSA310 ’ s button and click Run the Initialization Wizard to set u p the NAS310 .
5 Choose Default Configuration or Manual Configuration and then click Next . Here, we recommend users use Default Configuration . Fo r security issue, we suggest users change the admin ’ s password. Figure 9 . Choose a wizard type Figure 10 . Change the pass word.
6 1.3 Netwo rk Set tin g After successful in itialization, go back to the NSU main menu and click Configure network setting to start conf iguring. Y ou can assign a new hostname of this NSA310 and configure an IP for NSA 310 . Figure 14 . NSU main men u.
7 When users double click on th e zPilot icon, the detail status of zPilot will be sho wn as follows. Click Clean Up to clear finished task s. Figure 18 . The zPilot is trans ferring files to NSA 310 . 1.5 Directory Click Show the directory of the NAS and enter your username and p assword.

9 1.7 Play Media Files f rom Home Screen Click Play m edia files from home s creen to enjoy the music, vide o, and photos through the web browser. Figure 22 . NSU main menu. Figure 23 . Enter the username and password. The username can b e admin or ot her reg ular users.

In this examp le, we are goin g to set folder named as “2009_SpaceTraveling” under p ublic folder to be monitored and u ploaded all the pictures to Flickr website.

17 3. Package Management Package managem ent is used to set up more useful applications in NSA 310 . This feature enables u ser to use the f ollowing applications: BackupPlanner, DyDNS, Gallery, NFS, PHP-MySQL-ph pMyAdmin, SMART, SqueezeCenter, Wordpress and eMule.

21 1. What is RAID? RAID sta nds for R edunda nt A rra y of I nexpensive D isk s. It takes two or mor e hard disks to ac hieve grea ter levels of performa nce, reliability and/ or larger vol ume of data siz e. 2. Wh at kind of RAID is supported in NSA 310 ? NSA 310 supports Raid 1, JBOD, or RAID0.
22 9. What is the feature “ W ake On LAN ” ? You can turn on the NSA 310 through its wired Ethernet connection after enabling Wake On LAN. To use Wake On LAN from a computer on your LAN, install a program such as Wake On LAN EX or other Wake On LAN programs that support sending magic packets.
