The essential diff erence between D VD-R and D VD-RW is that D VD-R is a record-once medium, while D VD-RW is a re-recordable/er asable medium. Y ou can re-record/ erase a D VD-RW disc appro ximately 1,000 times.

D VR HOOKUP 19 Bef ore Operation Initial Settings In this menu system, there are se veral w ays to cus- tomize the settings pro vided. Most menus consist of three le vels to set up the options , but some require greater depth f or the variety of settings.
20 Bef ore Operation A uto Clock Set The D VD Recorder giv es you two wa ys to set the time and date: the Auto Clock F eature or manually . The Auto Clock F eature enables the D VD Recorder to set up the clock when the D VD Recorder is tur ned off or during PBS channel tuning.
21 D VR HOOKUP Bef ore Operation Progressive Scan Progressiv e Scan Video pro vides the highest quality pictures with less flick er ing. If you are using the COMPONENT VIDEO OUT jac ks, but are connecting the D VD recorder to a standard (analog) tele vision, set Progressiv e Scan to OFF .

Bef ore Operation (Continued) D VR HOOKUP 23 Loc k (Parental Contr ol) Rating Movies on D VDs may contain scenes not suitable f or children. Therefore , discs may contain P arental Control inf ormation that applies to the complete disc or to cer tain scenes on the disc.
Country Code Enter the code of a countr y/area whose standards were used to rate the D VD video disc, referring to the list (See “ Country Code List ” , page 48.). 1 1 Press SETUP . Timer Recor ding This D VD Recorder can be progr ammed to record up to 8 programs within a period of 1 month. For unattended recording, the timer needs to know the channels to be recorded, the star ting time and length. 1 1 Press TIMER REC. The Timer Record menu will appear .
RECORDING 39 Recor ding from an External Input Recor ding from External Components Y ou can record from an external component, such as a camcorder or VCR, connected to any of the recorder ’ s e xternal inputs. 1 1 Make sure that the component you want to record fr om is connected properly to the D VD Recorder .
Recor ding from an External Input (Continued) What is D V? Using D V , also known as i.LINK, you can connect a D V -equipped camcorder to this recorder using a single D V cab le for input and output of audio , video, data and control signals. The i.LINK interf ace is also known as IEEE 1394-1995.
EDITING 41 VR Mode: Original and Pla ylist Editing Edits you mak e to the Or iginal content changes the actual content of the disc. For e xample, if you er ase a title or chapter from the Original content (Title/Chapter List), that title or chapter is erased from the disc, freeing up e xtra recording time.
