xiii Introduction This manual is intended for anyone who is responsible for integrating the Xer ox EX7750 into a business environment that includes networked personal computers. After setting up the Xerox EX7750 and client workstations, individual users can print to the Xerox EX7750 as a high-performance color printer .

1 1-1 EX7750 on the network This chapter summarizes the stages in setting up the EX7750, and includes diagrams that refer you to other chapters or other manuals for completing your installation. Check those references to find the information y ou need quickly .
1 1-2 Connecting to the Network These protocols are supported on Mac OS, Windows, and UNIX platforms and can run concurrently on the same cable. W orkstations that use other protocols can print through a server that uses one of the protocols mentioned.

1 1-12 Connecting to the Network Ethernet connection F or Ethernet connections, the EX7750 supports U nshielded T wisted P air (UTP , 4 pairs) cabling, defined as Category 5 for use with 100BaseT and 1000BaseT ; or as Category 3, Categor y 4, or Category 5 for use with 10BaseT .

It describes setting up servers that use IPX/SPX or TCP/IP protocols for communicating with the EX7750.
2 2-2 Setting up Network Serv ers A typical system combination is: •P rint server running Windo ws 2000; clients running Windows 2000/XP. With TCP/IP protocols loaded, y ou can run Fiery utilities and W ebT ools from a Windows computer .
2 2-3 EX7750 on a TCP/IP netw ork with Window s 2000/XP Configuring a Window s 2000 server to communicate with the EX7750 To configure a Windows 2000 server to communicate with the EX7750, follow these general steps. Mor e detail is provided in subsequent sections in this chapter and in your Microsoft documentation.
2 2-4 Setting up Network Serv ers T O ADD THE EX7750 TO A TCP/IP NETWORK WITH A W INDOWS 2000 SERVER 1. Register the IP address o f the EX7750 in the host name database used by y our system. F or installations that do not have a network administrator or central host name database, add the EX7750 to the hosts file on the W indows 2000 server .
2 2-5 EX7750 on a TCP/IP netw ork with Window s 2000/XP Installing the EX7750 as a shared printer The first step in creating a printer is installing the printer driver files, which give y our applications access to printer features.
2 2-6 Setting up Network Serv ers Configuring clients of a Windo ws 2000 serv er Each client of a Windo ws 2000 server is already using a network protocol to communicate with the server . Each client can print to the EX7750 if it has been shared by a Windo ws 2000 server or Windows 2000/XP clients.
2 2-7 EX7750 on a TCP/IP netw ork with Window s 2000/XP Configuring Window s computers without a Windo ws 2000 serv er If your network does not have a Windows 2000 server , Windows 2000/XP workstations can still print to the EX7750. This method of printing is called W indows, or SMB printing.
2 2-8 Setting up Network Serv ers EX7750 on a NetW are netw ork The N etWise features built into the EX7750 support the following network operating environments: •N etW are—NDS (No vell Directory Services) •S ervers running NetW are in binder y emulation mode The term “N etware ” is used to refer to N etware 4.

2 2-10 Setting up Network Serv ers Y ou do not need to rerun Setup when you add or remov e a NetW are queue; however , you should restart the EX7750 after you create or r emove a queue. When the EX7750 is configured to connect to a N etW are ser ver , it polls the NetW are server for jobs in each of its queues.
2 2-11 EX7750 on a NetW are network W ith bindery ser vices, you can route all EX7750 print jobs through the same N etW are file server , or you can configure more than one file server to handle EX7750 jobs. The functions you perform on the N ovell server , the EX7750, and the client workstation are summarized in the follo wing tables.
2 2-12 Setting up Network Serv ers Configuring a bindery connection Setting up an NDS connection In NDS, all NetW are entities (objects) are organized in a hierarchical tr ee structure. Objects have a name, properties, and a context that defines the location of the object in the directory tree.
2 2-13 EX7750 on a NetW are network In order to set up the N etW are server in bindery emulation mode for printing to the EX7750, the network administrator must do the following: •D etermine the Directory Services path to the container in which the print ser ver and the EX7750 P rint queue will be created.
2 2-14 Setting up Network Serv ers •S etting up the EX7750 as a P ostScript printer by installing a P ostScript printer driver and the EX7750 PPD (P ostScript printer description). •A dding a network port and connecting the workstation to one or more N etW are queues that have been defined for the EX7750.
2 2-15 EX7750 on a NetW are network with NDPS Tips for e xperts—NetW are netw orks Setting up the EX7750 in an NDPS environment is similar to setting up any other P ostScript printer on the network.
2 2-16 Setting up Network Serv ers EX7750 on a network with UNIX w orkstations When a UNIX workstation is configured with the lpd protocol and connected to the EX7750 over a T CP/IP network, it can print directly to the EX7750. S etting up UNIX workstations r equires an administrator with root privileges.

2 2-18 Setting up Network Serv ers T O SET UP EX7750 PRINTING ON UNIX SYSTEMS 1. Specify the appropriate settings in EX7750 Serv er Setup. To access EX7750 Setup, see “A ccessing Setup options ” on page 4-9. 2. Specify the appropriate settings in EX7750 Netw ork Setup.

3 3-1 Lev els of access and contr ol To prepare for printing at your site, you must do some initial EX7750 configuration, or Setup , to specify the network environment and the kind of printing you will do . B efore you perform S etup, you must decide the levels of access you will implement for your site.
3 3-2 Preparing f or EX7750 Setup In addition, you can enable the Printed queue, which is a storage ar ea for the most recent jobs from the P rint queue.
3 3-3 Lev els of access and contr ol P asswords Y ou can implement passwords as a means of controlling access to EX7750 functions. The EX7750 allows you to set the follo wing passwords in Setup: •A .
3 3-4 Preparing f or EX7750 Setup Operator privileges Operator control includes control of print jobs from the job management tools, including the ability to override job settings. Guest privileges (no passwor d) No password is needed for a user to log in as a G uest from the job management tools.
3 3-5 Lev els of access and contr ol W ebLink W ebLink provides all users with a link to an address on the I nternet. T o change the W ebLink Internet address, see “Setting the W ebLink destination ” on page 6-3. This function requires the A dministrator password, if one has been set (see “P asswords ” on page 3-3).

3 3-8 Preparing f or EX7750 Setup EX7750 sy stem softw are The EX7750 uses Windo ws XP Embedded system architecture to r eceive and process jobs and send job data to the printer. T o log on to the EX7750, enter Administrator as the user name, and enter the password “ Fiery.
3 3-9 About Setup The first time you perform Setup , you must use the EX7750 Control P anel. Configure, at a minimum, Server Setup , Network Setup , and Printer Setup , in that sequence.
3 3-10 Preparing f or EX7750 Setup Network serv er setup requirements F or N ovell and Windows 2000 (using TCP/IP) networ ks, you must configure the network servers for printing to the EX7750 before you configur e EX7750 network settings in Setup . F or chapter references to information about network server Setup , see the diagrams in Chapter 1 .
3 3-11 About Setup T O PREPARE FOR EX7750 CONFIGURATION 1. Copy a test page to v erify the printer is functioning normally . 2. Turn o ff the printer and connect the interface cable fr om the printer to the EX7750. 3. T o confirm this connection, turn on the printer and allow it to warm up.
3 3-12 Preparing f or EX7750 Setup T O SCAN THE EX7750 FROM A W INDOWS COMPUTER 1. Disable all the print connections published in Server Setup and Printer Setup. In Server Setup, set Enable P rinted Queue to N o. In P rinter Setup, set the follo wing: •P ublish Direct Connection to N o •E nable Print Q ueue to No •E nable Hold Queue to N o 2.
3 3-13 About Setup 8. Run the progr am as instructed. The program scans the C:, D:, and E: drives mapped. F or details, see the anti-virus software documentation. 9. Enable the appropriate print connections in Serv er Setup and Printer Setup. N OTE : When no jobs are processing or printing, scanning is complete within 10 minutes.

4 4-1 EX7750 Setup from the Contr ol P anel Setup is requir ed the first time the EX7750 is turned on after new system software is loaded. If you do not configure a particular S etup option, the EX7750 uses default settings. Make sure the settings ar e appropriate for the printing environment at your site.
4 4-2 P erforming Setup fr om the Control P anel The Control P anel on the front of the EX7750 allows you to set options and view information about jobs printed to the EX7750.

4 4-4 P erforming Setup fr om the Control P anel Buttons Line selection buttons U se these buttons to select the command displayed on the corresponding line of the display window . When a button is active, a special character ( > ) appears in the display window next to the button.
4 4-5 EX7750 Control P anel Display window The display window pro vides information about the status of the EX7750, displays menu information, and allows you to view and edit information in the Setup menus.
4 4-6 P erforming Setup fr om the Control P anel Info S tatus When the EX7750 is not processing or printing a job, it displays information about the current server and software: Server Name —The EX7750 name, as it is configured in S etup. Status —The current status of the EX7750.
4 4-7 EX7750 Control P anel Functions menu The Functions menu pr ovides many of the options available from Command W orkS tation. Choose the following commands from this menu: Print Pages P rint special pages from the EX7750.
4 4-8 P erforming Setup fr om the Control P anel Suspend Printing Suspend communication betw een the EX7750 and the printer. Resume Printing Resume communication between the printer and the EX7750. Secure Print Allows users to control S ecure P rint jobs.
4 4-9 EX7750 Control P anel Accessing Setup options T O ACCESS S ETUP WHEN THE EX7750 IS I DLE Run Diagnostics Thi s function is provided for service representatives only . For information about running diagnostics, contact your authorized service/support technician.
4 4-10 P erforming Setup fr om the Control P anel About the Control P anel Setup interface When you perform Setup from the Control P anel, you can select one menu after another and enter information about your EX7750 and your network and printing environment.
4 4-11 EX7750 Control P anel Types o f Setup screens There are two types of S etup options: The following section provides three specific examples of these types of Setup options. Multiple choice questions Y ou are given choices (for example, Y es or No, or a list of options from which to choose).

When the setting you want appears, press the button beside OK to continue.
4 4-13 Server Setup options N OTE : If you make a mistake during Setup , use the Menu button to cancel without saving changes. P ressing M enu cancels what you are doing in the current scr een to bring you to the next higher-level menu.
4 4-14 P erforming Setup fr om the Control P anel System Time Enter the correct system time. Enter the time based on the 24-hour clock in the form HH:MM (Hours:M inutes). The time appears on the Job Log. Time Zone Select a time zone in which you ar e located.
4 4-15 Server Setup options Enable Printed Queue Yes/No [Yes] Specify whether to enable the P rinted queue, which creates a storage location on the EX7750 hard disk for recent jobs that wer e printed from the P rint queue.
4 4-16 P erforming Setup fr om the Control P anel Network Setup options When you perform network Setup , you configure the EX7750 to receiv e print jobs ov er the network systems that are used at your site. If the EX7750 is configured to enable more than one protocol, it automatically switches to the correct protocol when it receives a print job.
4 4-17 Network Setup options T O ACCESS N ETWORK S ETUP OPTIONS 1. Confirm that the network cable is connected to the EX7750. During N etwork Setup, the EX7750 queries the network for z ones, ser vers, and server-based queues.
4 4-18 P erforming Setup fr om the Control P anel P ort Setup options Protocol Setup options Network Setup P ort Setup To configure the EX7750, choose the port type you use and enter the settings for that port. Since network setups are nested, the names of higher-lev el menus are shown in this chapter to the left of each menu heading.
4 4-19 Network Setup options AppleTalk Zone List of zones The EX7750 searches the network for AppleT alk zones in y our network segment. Scroll through the list to select the AppleT alk zone in which y ou want the EX7750 to appear . If your segment has only one zone, the EX7750 is assigned to that zone automatically .
4 4-20 P erforming Setup fr om the Control P anel TCP/IP Setup with Ethernet Enable Auto IP Configuration Yes/No [Yes] Select Y es to allow the EX7750 to obtain its Ethernet IP addr ess by searching the network. Depending on your network and the pr otocol you select in the following option (DHCP or BOO TP), the IP address can change.
4 4-21 Network Setup options Get Gateway Address Automatically Yes/No [Yes] U se this option to assign the gateway address automatically for printing with TCP/IP . This option appears only if you selected DHCP or BOO TP as the protocol in the previous option.
4 4-22 P erforming Setup fr om the Control P anel DNS Setup options Get DNS address automatically No/Yes [No] Select Y es to allow the EX7750 to obtain the IP address of the DNS server automatically . Primary DNS server IP address [0.0.0.0] This option only appears if you have selected N o to Get DNS Automatically .
4 4-23 Network Setup options N OTE : If you want to use sending functions, you may also need to change the WINS name server settings specified in the Windows S etup > Service Setup > N etwork Setup . Ho weve r, setting up the WINS name server is outside the scope of this document.
4 4-24 P erforming Setup fr om the Control P anel Clear Frame Types Y ou can clear all frame types at once by choosing Exit IPX/SPX Setup, choosing IPX/SPX Setup , and then choosing Clear F rame T ypes.

Choose OK when you have displayed the tr ee that contains the printer , print server , and Print queue objects you pr eviously defined for the EX7750.
4 4-27 Network Setup options Is user login needed to browse NDS tree? Yes/No [No] S elect N o if no password is required to bro wse the tree. Y ou can proceed to navigate to the P rint Server object. Select Y es if network permissions require that y ou log in to browse the NDS tree and see the P rint Server object you want to select.
4 4-28 P erforming Setup fr om the Control P anel Enter Password Enter the login password for the NDS tr ee, using the up and down arrow buttons to select characters, and the left and right arrow buttons to mo ve the cursor . Choose OK. Navigate the NDS tree to the Print Server.
4 4-29 Network Setup options Server should look for print queues in: Entire NDS Tree/Specified Subtree [Entire NDS Tree] By default, the EX7750 searches the entire NDS tree for EX7750 print connections.
4 4-30 P erforming Setup fr om the Control P anel W ith an object selected, choose OK to travel do wn the tree, or choose “..” to go up the tree. When y ou select an object and choose OK, that object is then displayed on the top line, and the second line lists objects contained within.
4 4-31 Network Setup options Bindery Setup menu N OTE : If you change your mind about any of the menus you have selected, use the Menu button to escape and r eturn to the main Bindery Setup menu. T o cancel all changes, exit N etwork Setup and select N o to Save Changes.
4 4-32 P erforming Setup fr om the Control P anel Once you have chosen a file server, the EX7750 immediately tries to log in as a guest without a password.
4 4-33 Network Setup options File Server Login administrator/supervisor/Enter Login Name [supervisor] This option appears only if a password is requir ed for login, if there is no guest account, or the guest account is restricted. Choose Enter Login N ame to enter your o wn login name and passwor d or log in as a guest.
4 4-34 P erforming Setup fr om the Control P anel NetWare Print Server List of print servers on selected file server Choose the name of the print server you want to use. This is the print ser ver that will route print jobs to the EX7750 from computers on IPX networks.
4 4-35 Network Setup options Enter Your Print Server Password This option appears only if your N etW are print server is password-protected. Enter your print server password. The Bindery Setup menu is displayed again. You can edit other connections, choose another Bindery Setup option, or choose Exit Bindery Setup.
4 4-36 P erforming Setup fr om the Control P anel P olling Interval options NetWare Server Poll Interval in Seconds 1–3600 [15] Specify the interval, in seconds, at which the EX7750 communicates with the N ovell print server to see if there are print jobs waiting.
4 4-37 Network Setup options Use Automatic Configuration Yes/No [Yes] This option appears if you chose DHCP or BOO TP as the protocol for automatically obtaining the IP address of the EX7750. Choose Y es and the EX7750 uses a WINS name server and automatically obtains its IP address.
4 4-38 P erforming Setup fr om the Control P anel Server Comments Se rv er comments (optional) can contain information about the printer . These comments are listed in the EX7750 P roperties in Network N eighborhood and can be up to 15 characters.
4 4-39 Network Setup options IPP Setup Port 9100 Setup Network Setup Service Setup IPP Setup Enable IPP Y es/No [Y es] Select Y es to enable printing with the Internet P rinting P rotocol (IPP). Y ou must enable W eb Services. F or information about setting up user computers to use IPP printing, see the U ser Software I nstallation Guide .
4 4-40 P erforming Setup fr om the Control P anel E-mail Setup Enable Print via E-mail Yes/No [No] Select Y es to enable printing and scanning through e-mail. Outgoing Server [127.0.0.1] [mailservername] Enter the IP address name of the server (SMTP) on your network that handles outgoing e-mail.
4 4-41 Network Setup options Fiery E-mail User Name Enter the user name of the e-mail account. This is typically the part of the e-mail address that precedes the @ symbol. F or example, in the address pat@test.com , the user name is pat . Y ou can enter a maximum of 14 characters.
4 4-42 P erforming Setup fr om the Control P anel Administrator E-mail Domain Name Enter the name of the domain in which the administrator has an account. This is typically the part of the e-mail address that follows the @ symbol. F or example, in the address pat@test.
4 4-43 Network Setup options SNMP Setup SNMP Read Community Name [public] This option appears if you select Y es for Enable SNMP . This option allows you to change the SNMP Community N ame (“ public” by default) for read access. Once it is changed, the new community name must be entered to r ead any information through remote S etup.
4 4-44 P erforming Setup fr om the Control P anel Save Changes Yes/No [Yes] Select Y es to activate any changes made in N etwork Setup; select N o to return to the main Setup menu without making any changes. Printer Setup options P rinter Setup configures the connections and printing behavior associated with a particular printing device.

This is done by sending messages to the EX7750 in e-mail form. The list will be added to the F iery Address Books, designed for controlling user access to E-mail Services.
