1 Intr oduction Congratulations on your purchas e of the RS400 Sine W ave Inverter! The RS400 has been designed to give you premium power , ease of use, and outstanding reliability . Please read this chapter to fami liarize yourself with the main performance and protecti on features of the RS400.
1–2 445-0167-01-01 How RS400 W orks RS400 is a sine wave inverter which co nverts 12 volts direct current (DC) power from your battery to 120 volts a lternating current (AC) power . This AC power is the same as the electric ity you get from your utility .
Comprehensive Protection 445-0167-01-01 1–3 Comprehensive Pr otection RS400 is designed to meet UL 458 and CSA C22.2 No. 107.1 safety standards and it is compliant with FCC Class B. RS400 comes equipped with numerous protection features to guarantee you safe and worry-free operation.

1–6 445-0167-01-01 Optional Accessory: Remote Switch An optional remote switch can be plug ged into the remote switch jack at the back of the RS400. It lets you switc h the RS400 from on to standby from a convenient location—up to 25 feet (7.5 m) awa y from the inverter (using the cable supplied with the switch).
2 Oper ation Chapter 2, “Operation”, explains how to use your RS400 effectively . This chapter explai ns how to turn the RS400 to On ( )or Standby ( ) from the fr ont panel or from the S400 Remote Switch, monitor the stat us of the RS400, and reset the inverter .

2–4 445-0167-01-01 Using the S400 Rem ote Switch The S400 Remote Switch performs th e same function as the On/S tandby switch on the RS400. Invert mode use only The S400 Remote Switch provides On /S tandby control only when the RS400 is operating in invert mode.

2–6 445-0167-01-01 Recovering from Low Ba ttery V oltage Shutdown If the Low Battery light illuminates and the Inverter ON light turns of f on the front panel when you are operatin g the unit, the RS400 has shut down due to low battery voltage (10.3 vo lts).
Operating in Shore P ower Mode 445-0167-01-01 2–7 Operating in Shor e P ower Mode Definition Shore power (pass-through) refe rs to the AC inpu t power from a utility grid, generator , or external AC source. Shore power mode In shore power mode, the RS 400 is co nnected to shore power and your appliances are powered from the AC input power .

3 T r oubleshooting The RS400 is designed for high re liability and has a number of protection features for troubl e-free operation. If, however , you have any problems operating yo ur inverter , refer to the “T roubleshooting Reference” on page 3–2.

3–4 445-0167-01-01 AC input cord is connected to shore power , but the appliance is not powered from shore power . AC Input light is off. The shore power voltage is out of range (less than 85 volts AC or greater than 140 volts AC). External breaker has tripped.
