5 Before you begin programming your thermo- stat, you should be familiar with its features and with the display and the location and operation of the thermostat buttons. The information in this section will help you become familiar with your new thermostat so that you can easily program it.
6 PARTS OF THE THERMOSTAT The Back of The Thermostat Body Turn the thermostat body over. On the back are the 9 volt Energizer ® alkaline battery and the option switches.
7 2. You may adjust the option switches for keypad lockout (see OPERATING FEA- TURES ). The buttons (other than and ) are located behind the thermostat door. To open the door, use your fingernail in the indentation at the top center of the door. Pull the door out, then swing the door down on its hinges.
8 The Display Continuously displays system mode ( HEAT , OFF , COOL , AUTO , HOLD ). Dur- ing programming, the day of the week is displayed ( MO , TU , WE , etc.). Alternately displays room temperature ( F denotes degrees Fahrenheit and C de- notes degrees Celsius) and time of day ( A denotes AM time and P denotes PM time).

10 The Thermostat Buttons Sets the system mode ( HEAT ing, OFF , COOL ing, or AUTO matic changeover). Selects fan operation (see #5, above). This button is also used to program the fan to run continuously during a program period. Runs display forward or backward through time, day, or anticipation settings during programming.
11 Red indicator is lit whenever heating or cooling is in operation. Yellow indicator is lit whenever the second stage of heating or cooling is in operation.
12 OPERATING FEATURES Now that you are familiar with the thermostat display and buttons, read the following infor- mation to learn about the many features of the thermostat.
13 displayed. If the switch is OFF (down), use a pencil or small screwdriver to move the switch to the ON position (see figure be- low). Remove the battery for at least two minutes, to allow the thermostat to reset itself. Replace the battery and put the ther- mostat back on the wall.

16 To adjust anticipation, press SET CLOCK and ADV DAY at the same time. The display will show HEAT 5 (this is the factory preprogrammed heating anticipation setting). You may se- lect any anticipation setting from 4 to 40. If the heat cycles are too short, press TIME FWD to increase the cycle time.
17 5 minutes between cooling cycles. The following may cause a time delay in COOL : a) Return of power after a power outage. b) Pressing SYSTEM SWITCH to change operating modes. c) Pressing or , creating a call for COOL too soon after a previous call.
18 • PROGRAMMABLE BLOWER CON- TROL — You may program the fan blower to run continuously during any given pro- gram period, regardless of the cycling of the heating or cooling system. During pro- gramming, after entering the time and tem- perature for the time period, press FAN SWITCH until PRG FAN appears.

22 ENTERING YOUR PROGRAM Follow these steps to enter the heating/cooling program you have selected. We recommend that you remove the thermo- stat from the wall for programming (especially for entering cooling programming). A fresh 9 volt Energizer ® alkaline battery must be in- stalled to perform off-wall programming.
23 5. Press SET CLOCK once. The display will show the day of the week as an abbreviation ( MO for Monday, TU for Tuesday, etc.). 6. Press and hold either TIME FWD or TIME BACK until you reach the correct day of the week. 7. Press RUN PRGM once. The display will show the correct time and room temperature alter- nately.
24 4. Press VIEW TEMP once. The letter O will change to the letter U , representing the unoccu- pied heating temperature ( HEAT U ). 5. Press either or to change the temperature to your selected HEAT U set- ting. 6. Press RUN PRGM . 7. Press SYSTEM SWITCH until COOL is displayed.
25 This display window shows that for Monday’s occupied heating period, the start time is 8:00 AM, 70 ° is the programmed temperature, and the fan is set to PRG FAN (continuous fan operation); this ex- ample reflects factory preprogramming, where 70 ° is the HEAT O temperature.
26 6. After selecting the desired heating tem- perature for Monday’s occupied heating period, press VIEW PRGM . The currently pro- grammed start time and heating tempera- ture for Monday’s unoccupied heating period will be displayed.
27 Enter Cooling Program If outside temperature is below 50 ° F, we recommend that you remove the thermo- stat from the wall before proceeding with the following steps to program cooling temperatures. Personal injury or property damage may occur due to air conditioner compressor slugging.
28 or , the display will alternate between the COOL O and COOL U tem- peratures you previously selected). Damper operation is linked to the occupied or unoccupied temperature selections, not to the occupied or unoccupied time periods. The damper will be open only during periods with occupied temperatures.
29 Using The COPY Button You can copy the entire heating/cooling pro- gram into any or all other days’ programs. However, you must perform each copy function separately. Each time you begin a COPY op- eration, you must start with the day’s program you wish to copy FROM .
30 4. Press ADV DAY to select the day you want to copy the program TO . 5. Press HOLD COPY . COPY will disappear from the display, and the display will show the cop- ied heating/cooling time and temperature for the day you copied TO . 6. Repeat the above steps to copy any day’s programming into any other day’s pro- gram.
31 8. Repeat steps 2 through 5 to check cooling times and temperatures. 9. Press RUN PRGM to begin program operation. YOUR THERMOSTAT IS NOW COMPLETELY PROGRAMMED AND READY TO AUTOMATI- CALLY PROVIDE MAXIMUM COMFORT AND EFFICIENCY! Press SYSTEM SWITCH until OFF is displayed.
32 1. How can I permanently change a part of my program? Press VIEW PRGM and ADV DAY until you reach the time/temperature schedule you want. Then press or and TIME FWD and TIME BACK to change the program.
33 re-enter your program. Setpoint tempera- ture will not be displayed. If a fresh 9 volt Energizer ® alkaline battery is installed, the program will be maintained for about one week with no 24VAC power present to the thermostat. See OPERAT- ING YOUR THERMOSTAT .
34 etc. is displayed, and press RUN PRGM to begin the factory preset program. Or you may reprogram the thermostat, then replace it on the wall. To prevent further static discharge prob- lems, touch another object to release static build-up before touching the thermostat.
35 8. The display is flashing BATTERY. What does this mean? The 9 volt battery installed in the thermo- stat is low and should be replaced with a fresh 9 volt Energizer ® alkaline battery.
36 the next program period. See OPER- ATING YOUR THERMOSTAT . • You have programmed the incorrect day or time. Check your programming (be sure that the times you programmed are correct AM or PM times). See PRO- GRAMMING YOUR THERMOSTAT . • The thermostat is in the HOLD mode.
37 13. Between heating and cooling seasons, I want to turn my system off. Can I do this without affecting my thermostat programming? Any time you wish to turn your system off, simply press SYSTEM SWITCH until the display shows OFF . This will not affect thermostat pro- gramming in any way.
38 a flashing BATTERY on the display, the installed battery may be dead. If you re- move the old battery and install a fresh battery within one minute, you may not lose your programming. After installing a new battery, follow the procedures in CHECK YOUR PROGRAMMING to determine whether your programming was main- tained.
