6 III. INST ALLA TION 3-1 Hard Disk Inst allation 1. Insert the Removable Hard Disk to the ra ck, a nd make sure it is we ll mount ed. Lock the hard disk drive with its key .
7 IV. OPERATION The operation procedure s are as follows: 4-1 Booting Up 1. Push the Power Button (Open th e front panel, then press the button). 2. If all the installat ion procedures are correct, the system will boot up and s how the main sc reen as fol low s.
8 4-2 Main Screen The above picture is an example of the main screen. On the right of the screen is th e “status display ”. From top to bottom is Date/T ime, Hard Disk Free Space, then fol lowed by 3 columns and 16 rows, which are Recordi ng Sta tu s ( 1 st column), DI Receiving Status (2 nd column), and DO Output Status (3 rd column).
9 4-3 Display Mode The 7 icons on the botto m of the Main Screen are Display Mode selectio ns. The 7 icons are 4 splits, 6 splits, 8 splits, 9 spl its, 10 splits, 13 splits, and 1 6 splits. The default display mode is 16 splits. The camera displayed on each split mode could be modified through the system setting menu.
10 4-4 Hard Disk Free S p ace On the right of the M ain Screen, there are two Hard Disk pictures(HDR-16EP supports two Hard Disks). On the right of the hard disk picture, there is the number in color with a “% ” sign, which means th e available h ard disk space.
11 4-5 Playback 4-5-1 Enter Playback Mode When you click this icon , the system will display the screen as follows: 4-5-2 Select Playback Period Y ou can use the mouse to select the “T ime-segment D irectory” in the upp er left corner of the s creen.

13 4-5-4 Playback Control Buttons In addition to “Brightness” and “Contrast” con trols, there are more option buttons on the playba ck mode as follow s: PLA Y : T o start viewing the i mages at normal speed. P AUSE : T o freeze an image. Y ou ca n also pause by clicking the screen.
14 4-6 System Settings 4-6-1 、 Enter System Settings Screen 1. Click the Sys tem Setting icon. System w ill show a screen as follows for user to key in the username and password. 2. Use mouse to click the “keyboard” icon on the right of the “User Name” column.
15 4. If the username and password are cor rect, click th e “OK” button on the “User Login” screen, then the system will enter the sy stem setting screen. 5. When you enter the system setting screen, ther e are 6 icons on top of the screen. Each icon represents one sub- page.
16 4-6-2 Camera Setup 1. Please select the camera you would like to do the setting. 2. Camera Name : Y ou could use th e “key board figure” icon on the right of “Camera Name” column to key in the description for the camera. 3. Enable/Disable: If the channel is not con nected to camera, please set “Disa ble”.

18 It is used to set the Mot ion Sensor Area 。 7.1 Motion Sensor Area: C l i c k f o r t h e D e t e c t i o n A r e a , then use mouse to drag the motion detection windows on the screen. 7.2 No-Detectio n Area: Click for the No-Detection Area , then use mouse to drag the area which do not use motion detection.
19 4-6-3 V iew Setup Click “Split” icon, i t will display the view s etup screen as follows. For the 7 display modes mentioned in the se ction 4-3, the display content is setup through the “Split” icon on the screen above. For the table above, there are 4 splits, 6 splits, 8 splits, 9 splits, 10 splits, 13 splits, 16 splits setting s creen.
20 4-6-4 User Account Management This section describes the “remote access privilege” setup procedures for the user account. Click “User” icon, it will display the screen for user account manage ment as follows. [Add User Account] Click “Add” icon to add user account as scr een below .
21 1. There are 2 system pre-set accounts. The usernames and passwords for the se two a c c o u n t s a r e a s f o l l o w s . 1-1 Username: “admin”; Password: “1 1 1 1” is for system management account. This acc ount coul d not be del eted. 1-2 Username: “net”; Password: “1 1 1 1” is for normal user account.
22 [Delete User Accou nt] Click “Delete” icon to delete user accoun t. A screen will displa y as follows. Click “OK” if you would like to delete this user account.
23 4-6-5 Setting Date and Time 1 Use mouse to modify the date/time. 2 After that, please click the “Set!!”. System will pop up the warning window as follows. Please click the “OK” to reboot the syste m. 4-6-6 Network Configuration 1. Select Enable or Disable to enable/disable remote monitoring f unction.
24 3. After click the “Set!!” icon. System will show the warning window as follows. Please click the “OK” to reboot the system. 4-6-7 、 DI/DO (digital control signal input and output) 1 DI/DO digital control provides the three configurations as follows.
25 (3) One IO-1616 module, which includes 1 boar d (for internal connection), 4 cables (for internal connection), 1 board (for external connection), and 1 cable (for external connect ion).. 2 DI control options: 2.1 Disable: Disable the “control signal input”.
26 4. No matter it’ s DI s tatus change or i mage motion, it all coun ts as Event happening, so it will s tart the recordin g, If the DO is enabled, the D O status will also be changed if t he event happens.
27 4-7 Remote Functions.
28 4-7-1 、 Remote Monitoring thro ugh Local Area Network [Administrator] Decide an IP address in the local area network. Follow the instruction in 4-6-6 “Network Configuration” to set up HDR-16EP , then connect HD R-16EP to the local area network.
29 4-7-2 、 Remote Monitoring through the Inter net via Modem [Administrator] T o allow users to do the remote m onitoring through Internet, Ad ministrator of HDR-16EP needs to apply for a fixed line (leased l ine or ADSL), and get the fixed IP address from the ISP (Internet Service Provider).
30 Enter the dialing number provided by ISP . (For example, the number is 03-4121234) , Then, click “Next” to finish the setting. After completing the setting, open “Dial-Up Networking” window , you will see the new icon. (“Hinet” icon, in th is example) Double click this icon, then enter the ISP account and password as left graph.
31 4-7-3 、 Remote Monitoring when HDR-16EP Connects to Modem Similar to dialing up to ISP (Internet Service Provider) for connecting to internet as the previous section, through modem to connect to HDR-16EP(direct dial-in) is another way to do the remote monitoring.
32 Enter the phone number of the modem connected to HDR-16EP . Click on “Next” to complete the setup. After completing all the setup procedure, open “Dial-Up Networking” windo w , you will see the “HDR-16EP” Icon 。 Double click the “HDR-16EP” Icon, then en ter the dial-up username and password as left graph.
33 4-7.4 Remote Playback Installation Besides the remote monitoring feature mentioned in the previous section, HDR-16EP also provides the Remote Playback function. T o be able to run Remote Playback, a “player” program needs to be installed on user ’ s computer .
34 Notice: If there is a previous installed Rem ote Playback program on your machine, you will need to process the sa me installation twice – the first time for removing the original program, and the second time for installing th e new version of the remote playback progra m.
35 4-7.5 How to use Remote Moni toring and Remote Playback After the installation, you can start using Remote Monitoring and Remote Playback functions by clicking on the icons on the HDR-16EP web page.
36 “4 Split”: User could monitor 4 split screen at the same time as the graph below . The default view is Camera 1,2,3,4 , Camera 5,6,7,8 , Camera 9,10,1 1,12 , and Camera 13,14,15,16 . User could also change the view position of each camera from the “Custom V iew” column.
37 System will start to play the recorded video if recording file found at the selected time. However , if there is no recorded video at the selected time, syste m will do the forward searching to play the n ext recorded video. The following selection can be used during the video playing.
38 4-7.6 How to Use Local Playback From the remote monitoring/remote play back web page listed in the previous section, select to download the current pl aying record with an image file (*.MP4) and a relative index file (*.CVX) to the selected directory .
39 4-8 Backup Solution: Swap Removable Hard Disk If it is necessary to save all the recorded data, the most economical way will be to store data by swapping the removable hard disk. N ormally , DVR uses storage media such as hard disk, tape driv er , or recordable optical media (MO, CD-R W , DVD-RAM…etc.
40 for retrieving purpose in the future. Insert the new rem ovable hard disk (pur chased from the dealers autho rized by Hung Electronic USA, Inc.) and lock the h ard drive with key . T urn on the po wer switch. The system will recognize the new disk and request to format it.
41 2. Click “ Format” on the right of the screen, th en system will start to format the new hard disk. After finishing the format, the “selection icons” will become “available”. Please refer to the figure below . Use the “selection icons” to choose the cameras you would like to be recorded in this new formatted HD.

45 Please use the “Selection ” Icon as above to remove the “overlapped camer a” from one of the HD, then the “Save” icon will po p up again.
46 4-9 Backup Solution: CD-R/R W Recorder When users try to save part of the vi deo files to be used for evidences or reference s, the most convenie nt way is to record to CD-R or CD-R W , since almost every computer h as CD-ROM. HDR-16EP provides a friendly user interface to process CD-R/R W recording.
47 2. Blank CD-R W : If the CD-R W is used, please execute “Blank” procedure first. Input the CD-R W to th e C D-R/R W recorder, click on to start the cle an up process. After it is done, the M essage area wil l display “Done”. If the CD-R W is the blank one, you do not need to execute this process.
48 4. Y ou can browse the other director ies (dates) to continu e the file select ion. 5. Click on the button on the bo ttom left corner to choose the burning speed. The default speed is 6 times burning. 6 . C l i c k o n b u t t o n , t h e s y s t e m w i l l f i r s t c h e c k i f t h e r e i s a b l a n k CD inside the CD-R/R W recorder .

50 5-2 Q & A 1. Q. Why does it still record a lot of images even though the motion detector has been triggered? A: The digital recording system is very sensitive. The system can detect even the tiniest motion that our eyes can't perc eive. The problem can be caused by: 1.
51 5-3 Maintenance 1. A void placing the system in a high temperature or a high humidity environment and also away from the place with frequent vibrations. 2. Operate the system under stable voltage. If possible, operate the system with a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply).
