1 1. Becoming Familiar With Y our Speakerphone Congratulations! Y ou hav e purchased one of the best perf orming 4-line speaker- phones on the market! This manual is designed to f amiliarize you with the VT 4121 . T o get the most use out of your VT 4121 , we strongly recommend y ou read the man ual before using y our phone.

3 Caller ID Log • Up to 99 telephone numbers will be stored in the Caller ID Log for re- view , redial, save to speed dial or deletion. Message W aiting Indicator • Message LED will indicate presence of network based voice messages. (Y ou will need to subscr ibe to the V oice Messaging ser vice provided by y our local telephone company .
4 Pag e • Y ou can voice page all e xtensions or perform a single page to a tele- phone. Meet-Me-Answ er allows you to answ er an All P age from any tele- phone. A utomatic Mute may be pro- grammed to pre vent sounds in y our room from being heard while some- one makes a single page to y ou.

7 FCC Part 68 The FCC requires that you connect your cordless telephone to the nation- wide telephone network through a modular telephone jack (USOC RJ11C , RJ11W or RJ14). Y our telephone company ma y discon- tinue your service if your equipment causes harm to the telephone network.

10 1. Site Planning Select a location where the speaker- phone will not interfere with daily ac- tivities. Y ou can choose to connect the speakerphone to as many as f our tele- phone lines. The speak er phone can be connected to two 2-line (RJ14C) modu- lar telephone jacks to accommodate all four lines .
11 d. Inser t one end of the handset cord into the handset and the other end into the left side of the telephone. Place the handset in the telephone cradle. e. Plug the two long line cords into the wall jacks . Double chec k that you have not re versed the L1/L2 and L3/L4 cord connections.
12 5. Slide the bracket do wn onto the hooks and snap into place. 6. Plug one of the line cord into the L1/ L2 jack at the bac k of the telephone. Plug the other line cord into the L3/ L4 jack. 7. Plug the AC adapter po wer cord into the bottom of the telephone.
13 1. General Programming Guidelines • Press PROGRAM to enter the pro- gramming mode . The MUTE (EN- TER) will light steady . The display will show: • The VOLUME b uttons are used f or scrolling through the program- ming selections. • The MUTE (ENTER) button acts as “enter”.

CO Line Ring T one Default Setting: 1 Range: 1-4 Y ou can choose one of four different ringing tones for your telephone.

17 11. A uto Mute Enable/Disable Def ault Setting: Disable This feature pre vents unauthorized eav esdropping when someone makes a single page to you. Note: F o r intercom page with handsfree reply at your e xten- sion, Auto Mute m ust be set to Disable .

20 1. Lamp (LED) Operation Line Buttons Off • Lamp is off when the line is not be- ing used. On steady • Lamp is on if the line is being used by another e xtension. Wink • Lamp will “wink” to indicate the line you are talking on. Slow flash • Lamp flashes slowly when an in- coming call is ringing or you receiv e a transf erred call.
21 Slow Flash • Lamp will slowly flash when y ou hav e new T elco voice messages (subscription required.) Fast Flash • Lamp will flash quickly when the speakerphone is ringing. On steady • Lamp will light steady when the speakerphone is in the Do Not Dis- turb mode.
22 8. Making an Outside Call Each VT 4121 speakerphone may hav e four (4) outside lines progr ammed for direct access and dialing. 8.1 Using the Handset 1. Lift the handset. (If you ha v e Auto- matic Line Selection enabled, the telephone will automatically select a line-proceed to Step 3 ).
23 2. Hang up. Press ICM . If you want to mak e an intercom call without autotransf err ing the line or simply hang up the handset and the line will remain on hold. 11. Retrie ving a Call on Hold When you place a call on Hold at y our speakerphone you will hear a brief re- mainder tone after 30 seconds.

25 2. Dial the e xtension number where you will tr ansfer the call (or press a DSS button ). For instance , if yo u want to tr ansfer a call to e xtension 15 the display will sho w: Note 1: Y ou will hear a single tone if the call has transf erred.

28 seconds, and then dial the number again. 4. When you hear ringing, lift the hand- set to speak. Note: The MUTE lamp lights steady when the Auto Busy Redial f ea- ture is activ ated. The SPEAKER lamp will flash slowly during di- aling attempts, and quic kly dur- ing dialing.
29 3. Dial the remaining numbers to be dialed in the tone mode. Note: When you hang up the tele- phone will return to the pulse dialing mode. 28. Messa ge W aiting Light If you subscribe to voice mail service from your local telephone company , the LED to the right of the Caller ID keys will flash when someone has left a mes- sage for y ou.

Caller ID Buttons There are five (5) b uttons used to ac- cess Caller ID functions: CID • T o switch between m ultiple caller ID screens during 2 or more r inging calls.
31 caller . Other telephone companies may only provide the number of the calling par ty . Note 1: When the VT 4121 is con- nected behind a PBX or ke y system, the caller ID features cannot be used.
32 3.5 Receiving a Call from Outside the Calling Area If a caller is outside of your Caller ID area: 4. Reviewing Calls in the Caller List Inf or mation f or a maximum of ninety- nine (99) calls will be maintained. If more than 99 calls are received, the new est call will replace the oldest call in the list.
33 6. Delete the Entire Caller ID List Y ou can delete the entire Caller ID List by pressing ERASE while vie wing the total calls/new calls displa y . 7. Dialing a number f orm the Caller ID List Y ou can dial a number from the Caller ID list while in the revie w mode.
34 The Speakerphone is equipped with an auxiliar y data por t on the back panel as shown: The auxiliar y data por t can be used to connect an y standard single line device to line 4 for basic line service. This is par ticularly useful for notebook PC modem con- nections, as well as f ax machines or other single line telephone de vices.
