S TEP 1: A SSEMBLE THE S CANNER 7 3. Slide the locking tab on the bot tom of the scanner to its unlocked position. 4. Insert the slots (A) on the P aper Guide onto their tabs (B) on the scanner and slide the Guide do wn into place. The catch tabs (C) snap into place.
8 V ISIONEER 9750 S CANNER U SER ’ S G UIDE 5. Insert the P aper Guide Extension into the P aper Guide and snap its tabs into place. 6. Insert the P aper S top onto the back of the scanner and slide it downwar d to snap its tabs into place.
S TEP 1: A SSEMBLE THE S CANNER 9 7. Plug the ADF cable into the ADF port. T ighten the two locking screws on eith er side of the plug to make sure the ADF cable is securely plugged into the port. Th e ADF will not function properly if the ADF cable is loose or unplugged.
10 V ISIONEER 9750 S CANNER U SER ’ S G UIDE S TEP 2: I NSTALL THE S OFTWARE The Installation CD contains all the driver software and scanning software to run your scanner . T o install the softwar e: 1. S tart Microsoft Windo ws and make sure that no other applications are running.
S TEP 2: I NSTALL THE S OFTWARE 11 When the CD starts, the Vision eer Installation window opens automatically . 3. On the Installation M ain Menu, click Install P roducts . The next window lis ts the software that is available to install on your computer .

S TEP 2: I NSTALL THE S OFTWARE 13 14. The W elcome to the OneT ouch 4.0 Setup Wizard opens. 15. Click Nex t . 16. On the V isioneer License Agr eement windo w , read the license agreement. I f you accept the terms, select I Agree , and click Ne x t .
14 V ISIONEER 9750 S CANNER U SER ’ S G UIDE 18. Select the option y ou want. ■ Full I nstall (OneT ouch, TW AIN and ISIS) —This is the re co m m e n de d installation. It installs the OneT ouch 4.0 software which pro vides the necessary driver software for the scanner .
S TEP 2: I NSTALL THE S OFTWARE 15 ■ TW A IN on ly —The TW AIN driver is installed without the OneT ouch 4.0 software or the ISIS driver . Y ou can use the TW AIN driver to scan from TW A IN applications. Y ou will not be able to scan with the buttons on the scanner .
16 V ISIONEER 9750 S CANNER U SER ’ S G UIDE The Color S pace setting sets the gamma value for the scanner so scanned items look good on your monitor . Gamma controls the brightness of the midtones of co lors. That setting can be changed later on as you ’ re scanning.
S TEP 3: C ONNECT THE P OWER S UPPLY 17 S TEP 3: C ONNECT THE P OWER S UPPLY Connect the power supply and po wer cor d, and plug the power supply into an electrical outlet. T o connect the po wer supply: 1. Plug the pow er supply into its power port on the scanner .
18 V ISIONEER 9750 S CANNER U SER ’ S G UIDE S TEP 4: C ONNECT THE USB C ABLE AND T URN ON THE P OWER Y our Visioneer 9750 scanner connects to any available USB por t. Check your computer’ s manual fo r the USB por t locations. 1. Remo ve any protective tape from the USB cable.
S TEP 4: C ONNECT THE USB C ABLE AND T URN ON THE P OWER 19 3. T urn on the power switch, located to the right of the power port. The status light comes on and flashe s indicating that the scanner is receiving po wer . If you are using W indows XP S ervice P ack 2, and have plugged the USB cable into a USB 1.
20 V ISIONEER 9750 S CANNER U SER ’ S G UIDE Do not proceed until you r eceive a message that your computer has found the new har dwar e, or updated the driver database. I f your computer is running Windows XP , you will see the following message. 5.
S TEP 4: C ONNECT THE USB C ABLE AND T URN ON THE P OWER 21 7. Click Close on the I nstallation Complete window to close and exit the software installer .

T o install the additional applications: 1. Return to the I nstallation wi ndow and select the additional application(s) you want to install on your computer .

The CD also includes a free copy of Acr obat ® Rea de r ® in case your computer does not have it alr eady installed. The Scanner R eadme file is in HTML format and will open in any standar d browser .

26 V ISIONEER 9750 S CANNER U SER ’ S G UIDE Scanning If you sele cted the recommended F ull Install option for y our scanner’ s driver (see page 14), you have several options for scanning. Each method scans equally well so us e th e one with appropriate options for the item you ar e scanning.
S CANNING B ASICS 27 S CANNING B ASICS Y our scanner can scan a stack of documents using the A utomatic Document F eeder , or a single page on the F latbed glass. L OAD A S TA CK OF D OCUMENTS 1. Lift the document cover and make sur e no pages have inadvertently been left on the F latbed glass.
28 V ISIONEER 9750 S CANNER U SER ’ S G UIDE 4. Load your stack of documents face up , with the top edge of the pages into the Automatic D ocument F eeder . L OAD A S INGL E P AGE 1. Remo ve any paper in the Automatic D ocument F eeder . The scanner automatically detects if paper is in the A utomatic Document F eeder and will scan pages in it.

S CAN F ROM THE O NE T OUCH B UTTON P ANEL 31 S CAN F ROM THE O NE T OUCH B UTTON P ANEL Scanning from the OneT ouch B utton P anel is just like pressing a scanner button, except y ou click a button icon on the computer screen. This method of scanning is especi ally helpful if the scanner is not located close to your computer .
32 V ISIONEER 9750 S CANNER U SER ’ S G UIDE The scanner begins scanning. Wh en the process finishes, the scanned images appear in the De stination Application. I n the example below , the Destination Application is P aperP ort. T o cancel scanning, click the Can cel button.

The OneT ouch Button P anel shows information about the scanner and its settings. 1. T o open the O neT ouch Button P anel, click the OneT ouch icon.

Each OneT ouch button configuration consists of a Destination A pplication , a Scan Configuration , and a Do c um en t Forma t .

T o scan in color , select one of the configurations indicated by the small color icon, such as the Color Document configuration. T o cre ate your o wn scan configuration s see “Cre ating a N ew Scan Configuration ” on page 62.
C ONFIGURING THE O NE T OUCH B UTTONS 43 S ETTING D ESTINATION A PPLICATION P ROPERTIES The different types of Dest ination A pplications have various properties that you can select. 1. On the OneT ouch P roperties window , click a Destination Applic ation.
44 V ISIONEER 9750 S CANNER U SER ’ S G UIDE P APER P ORT P ROPERTIE S These properties apply to P aperP ort, and are for designating the folder to receiv e your scanned items. 1. Select the P aperP or t folder where y ou want the file of the scanned image to be located.
C ONFIGURING THE O NE T OUCH B UTTONS 45 T EXT D OCUMENTS P ROPERTIES These properties apply to Microsoft W ord , Microsoft E xcel ® , and the other applications indicated by thei r icons in the list. The properties apply to the Optical Character R ecognition (OCR) settings for the applications.
46 V ISIONEER 9750 S CANNER U SER ’ S G UIDE The Add T ext Based Link dialog box opens. 3. Click Browse to find the application y ou want to add to the list. When you select the application using the B ro wse button, steps 1 and 2 on the dialog box are automatically filled in, and the application icon appears in step 3.
C ONFIGURING THE O NE T OUCH B UTTONS 47 I MAGE D OCUMENTS P ROPERTIES These properties apply to Microsoft P aint and other image processing applications. 1. Click in the Color document handling settings boxes for the options you want. The options will apply to all the applications in the group.
48 V ISIONEER 9750 S CANNER U SER ’ S G UIDE 2. T o add another application to the list, click the Add Application button. See the steps on page 45 to add an application to the list. 3. Click OK . 4. Click Refres h on the OneT ouch P roper ties window .
C ONFIGURING THE O NE T OUCH B UTTONS 49 1. Click the S torage Layout opt ions you want. All documents are in the root —The scanned documents ar e saved in the root of the folder spec ified in the St orage Location.
50 V ISIONEER 9750 S CANNER U SER ’ S G UIDE E M AIL P ROPERTIES These properties apply to email applications so you can specify the folder for documents you want to a ttach to an email message.
C ONFIGURING THE O NE T OUCH B UTTONS 51 3. If you need to change your email client, or any othe r internet options, click the Internet Options button. The Window s Internet Options Control P anel opens. Click the P rograms tab and choose a new email client from the Email list.
52 V ISIONEER 9750 S CANNER U SER ’ S G UIDE S ELECTING F ORMAT O PTIONS The F ormat options that you select determines the file format of the scanned document. Appropriate format options and file types are available for the type of Destination Application select ed for the button.
C ONFIGURING THE O NE T OUCH B UTTONS 53 used to put multi-page documents on w eb sites as PDF-readable files. As with the JPEG option, the PDF fo rmat can be reduced in size or quality . T o select a JP EG or PDF file size: 1. Select JPG or PDF as the format.
54 V ISIONEER 9750 S CANNER U SER ’ S G UIDE T EXT F ORMATS Selecting the text format option also selects OCR processing as an automatic step for scanning. Therefor e, when you scan a document with the text format selected, the text portions of the document are automatically converted to editable text.
C ONFIGURING THE O NE T OUCH B UTTONS 55 T o select a file type for the text for mat: 1. Sel ect the Destina tion Applic ation. 2. Right-cl ick on the tex t format icon . A menu opens. The following figur e shows the options for the TEXT format. The menu options depend on the type of Destination Application you select.
56 V ISIONEER 9750 S CANNER U SER ’ S G UIDE S CANNING WITH O PTICAL C HARACTER R ECOGNITION (OCR) Optical Character Recognition (OCR) converts text and numbe rs on a scanned page into editab le text and numbers. Y ou can then work with the text and numbers to edit, spellcheck , change font or type size , sort, calculate, and so forth.

Cr eate copies of scanned documents —S ometimes the image of a scanned document is only saved as a temporar y file until its Destination Application is finished using it.

If you also want to gr oup them by date you can choose the week and month options. The following example sho ws the folders when the selections are G roup items by type and Gro u p i t e m s b y m o n t h .
62 V ISIONEER 9750 S CANNER U SER ’ S G UIDE C REATING A N EW S CAN C ONFIGURATION The scan configurations are where you select the scanning r esolution, brightness, mode (color , black&white, or grayscale), and a number of other settings. N ote the lock icon on the preset configurations.
C ONFIGURING THE O NE T OUCH B UTTONS 63 T o cr eate a new configuration: 1. Open the OneT ouch Pr operties window and click the tab of the button to have the new configuration. 2. Scroll through the applications in the Select Destination list and click the of application you want for the new scan co nfiguration.
64 V ISIONEER 9750 S CANNER U SER ’ S G UIDE 5. Select scan settings for the new scan configuration. M ode —Select a s canning mode: ■ Black&White to scan in black and wh ite. F or example, letters and memos are usually scanned in black and white.
C ONFIGURING THE O NE T OUCH B UTTONS 65 7. Click the P age Settings tab to select page settings. Siz e —Click St a n d a rd , click the menu arrow and choose a page size from the list, or click Cu s t o m and enter the horizontal and ver tical page dimensions in the boxes.
66 V ISIONEER 9750 S CANNER U SER ’ S G UIDE ■ Invert Ima ge —Only available for Black&White M ode, this option reverses the black and whites of an image. ■ Color F ilter —Color filter is the ability of yo ur scanner to automatically remo ve a color from a scanned item.
C ONFIGURING THE O NE T OUCH B UTTONS 67 8. Click the Advanced Se ttings tab. The options of the Advanced S ettings tab are for the Color or G rayScale scannin g mode. Saturation is the str ength or purity of a color , hue is the color your eyes see as r eflected from the image, and gamma controls the brightness of the midt ones of the color .
68 V ISIONEER 9750 S CANNER U SER ’ S G UIDE T HE D EVICE S ETTINGS T AB A Device Settings tab appears on the Scan Configurations dialog box when your selected Destination Appl ication sends the scanned image to a printer , fax application, or othe r device.
C ONFIGURING THE O NE T OUCH B UTTONS 69 Collate copies —If y ou ’ re printing mor e than one page, collate the copies. Enter the number of copies in the Copi es box. Advan ced —Click to see additional settings for the device. The dialog box that opens is specific to the device.

C ONFIGURING THE O NE T OUCH B UTTONS 71 E DITING OR D ELETING S CAN C ONFIGURATIONS T o edit or delete a scan confi guration: 1. Open the OneT ouch Pr operties window and click the tab of the button that has the scan conf iguration to edit or delete.
72 V ISIONEER 9750 S CANNER U SER ’ S G UIDE 4. T o edit the configuration, click the Edit button. The Scan Configuration P roperties dialog box opens for that configuration. Y ou can make changes to a configuration, but for the changes to be saved, the configuration must first be unlocked.
C ONFIGURING THE O NE T OUCH B UTTONS 73 C ONFIGURING B EFORE S CANNING Choosing Configure Before Scan simply opens a scanning interface when you press or click a button. Y ou can then use the interface to change the Resolution, Scan M ode, and other settings.
74 V ISIONEER 9750 S CANNER U SER ’ S G UIDE 3. Right-click on Configure Befor e Scan and choose an interface to use for scanning. TW A IN —The TW AIN Interface opens for you to make changes prior to scanning. See “Scanning with the TW AIN Interface ” on page 93.
C ONFIGURING THE O NE T OUCH B UTTONS 75 S CAN AND B URN TO A CD If you have a CD burner attached to your computer , you can scan directly f rom your scanner onto a CD . This featur e is available only on computers runn ing Windows XP . T o scan and bur n to a CD: 1.
76 V ISIONEER 9750 S CANNER U SER ’ S G UIDE 7. N ow s tart scanning using the button y ou selected to use t o scan and burn to CD. When scanning is finished, a bubb le message on the screen tells y ou that files are waiting t o be burned to the CD.
C ONFIGURING THE O NE T OUCH B UTTONS 77 No t e : When scanning items to burn to a CD, you should always use one of the factory-set default configur ations, or a custom configuration specifically set up for CD burning.
78 V ISIONEER 9750 S CANNER U SER ’ S G UIDE S CANNING WITH E VENT F ORWARDING If you want to specify an application to use for scanning at the start of the process, you can use event forwar ding. The scanner will feed in t he first page, but will then stop until you select the application to use.
C ONFIGURING THE O NE T OUCH B UTTONS 79 5. Click OK . The OneT ouch Properties window closes. 6. S tart scanning using the button you selected for event forwarding. A dialog box opens for you to select the application to use for scanning. 7. Select the applicatio n in the box and click OK .
80 V ISIONEER 9750 S CANNER U SER ’ S G UIDE C REATING AN HTML W EB P AGE FROM Y OUR S CANNED D OCUMENTS If you scan a document, whether a si ngle page or multiple pages, you can have the pages converted direct ly to HTML formatted pages for posting directly to y our web site.
C ONFIGURING THE O NE T OUCH B UTTONS 81 5. Choose a Scan Configuration that has the settings for the image on the HTML page. F or example, if you want the imag e to be in color on the HTML page, choose a color configuration. 6. Click OK . The OneT ouch Properties windo w closes.
82 V ISIONEER 9750 S CANNER U SER ’ S G UIDE T RANSFERRING S CANNED D OCUMENTS TO S TORAGE With the T ransfer to Storage scanni ng process, y ou can scan documents and save them in a folder in one st ep. The process is ideal for archiving documents without having to manuall y save or process them in any other way .
C ONFIGURING THE O NE T OUCH B UTTONS 83 5. Choose a Scan Configuration for the documents you want to archive. F or example, if you want the archived documents to be in color , choose a color configuration. Y our scanned pages are stored in the location that y ou specified on the OneT ouch 4.
84 V ISIONEER 9750 S CANNER U SER ’ S G UIDE S CANNING TO M ULTIPLE F OLDERS When archiving documents with the T ransfer to S t orage option, you can scan them to multiple folders.
C ONFIGURING THE O NE T OUCH B UTTONS 85 6. T o help you r emember which folder it is, give the new configuration a name that indicates the folder name, such as “S torage for Business Receipts.” 7. Click the Scan Settings , P age Settings , and Advanced S ettings tabs, and select the settings y ou want.
86 V ISIONEER 9750 S CANNER U SER ’ S G UIDE 11. Click OK . The selected folde r will now be set as the St orage Location, such as “Business Receipts.” 12. Click Apply . The new configuration is now listed as a T ransfer to S torage configuration.
C ONFIGURING THE O NE T OUCH B UTTONS 87 Scan to multiple storage folders: 1. Load the documents into the scanner that you want to scan to multiple storage folders. 2. Open the OneT ouch Pr operties window . 3. Click the button you ’ ve set up for archiving documents.
