GETTING STARTED English 1 1 GETTING STARTED Register your Vertu phone Vertu aims to provide you with the very best service possible. To enable us to do this, pl ease register your Vertu phone by visiting www.verturegistration.com or by calli ng Vertu Concierge using the dedicated key on the side of your handset.

GETTING STARTED English 3 Inserting the battery and SIM card The SIM card and its contacts are easily damaged. Be careful when handling, insertin g or removing the card. Removing the back cover > W ith the bac k of your V ertu phone facing you, position the b ack cover release key ( 01 ) into the slot of the l ocking screw ( 02 ).
4 English GETTING STARTED Switching your V ertu phone on The battery may not be fully charged when you receiv e it. If a Battery low message is displayed when you first switch on your Vertu phone please see “Charging the battery” on page 11 for more information.
GETTING STARTED English 5 Status icons are displayed below the batte ry charge and signal strength indicators. The most commonly displayed icon s are: For more icons and their meanings please see the Reference Manual. Making a call Answering a c all When you receive an incoming call, a ringing to ne is played and a call message is displayed.
6 English GETTING STARTED > Press the SEND key . If certain features are in use, you may first need to turn those features off befo re you can make an emergency call. For more information consult the Refere nce Manual or your local service provider.
GETTING STARTED English 7 Updating flight, weather and curr ency information Press the Options SELECTION key to display a menu. Select the Update ... option to open a GPRS connection and download latest info rmation to your Vertu phone. Changing settings Press the Options SELECTION key to update settings, change city, and change settings.
8 English GETTING STARTED Additions > Gallery > Media > Applications > Web The Additions menu enables you to access multimedia files, us e the media player, record a message and browse the web.

GETTING STARTED English 11 Char ging the battery The battery for your Ve rtu phone is rechargeable and requires charging at regular intervals. If the batt ery is fully discharged it may take a few mo ments befor e the charging ind icator appears on the displ ay.

GETTING STARTED English 13 Safety information T raffic safety Do not use a hand-held telephone whi le driving a veh icle. If using a hand-held phone, park the vehicle before using the phone in any way. Do not place the phone on the passenger seat or where it can break loose in a collision or sudden stop.

W ater resistance If your Vertu phone is accidentally splas hed with water, ensure you dry it completely bef ore removing the back cover. Remove the battery and leave al l parts to dry naturall y.

It is designed not to exceed the limits for expos ure to radio waves recommended by international guidelines.
GETTING STARTED English 17 FCC/Industry Canada notice Your Vertu phone may cause TV or radio interference (for example, when using a telephone in close proximity to receiving equipment). The FCC or Industry Canada can require you to stop using your phone if such interference cannot be eliminated.

MESSAGING English 23 3 MESSAGING Your V ertu pho ne prov ides ext ensive messa ging fu nction ality to allow you to send and receive messages of many types, where supported by your service provider. T ext messages Text messages (also known as SMS) are basic messages containing only text, of up to 160 characte rs.
24 English MESSAGING To accept the sugge sted word, press the zer o NUMBER ke y to add a space. If the word is not c orrect, press * repeatedly, or press Options » Matches . When the word that you want appears , press Use . If the ? charac ter is displayed after the word, the word you intended to write is not in the dictionary.

26 English MESSAGING Message overwrite When the message memory is full, your Vertu pho ne cannot send or receive any new messages. To avoid this, you can set you r phone to automatically replace the oldest messages in the Sent items folde r when new ones arrive or are sent.

28 English MESSAGING MMS s e t t in g s Before you can use the multimedia message feature, incl uding Audio messages (see “E-mail” on page 30) you must obtain the appropriate settings. Use the Orde r Settings link from your CD- ROM to take you directly to the appropriate pag e on the Vertu web site to obtain the settings for your Vertu phone.

The message will the n be sent. M M S mess age opti ons It takes the network longer to send a multimedia message than to send a text message.

32 English LOG 4 LOG The log feature allows you to view informati on about calls that you have missed, received and made. You can als o view information (volume of data / session duration) for packet data transfer and number of messages sent and received (b oth SMS and Multim edia).

34 English PROFILES 5 PROFILES Profiles are an ea sy way to control the most co mmon groups of settings for exa mple audible and vibrating alert s. Activating alternative profiles ch anges all the associated settings quickly and easily.

SETTINGS English 39 Data transfer with a compatible device Bluetooth wireless technology can be used for synchronisation. T he other device should be in t he standby mode. To start data transfer: 1. From the stand-by display, press Menu » Settings » Connectivity » Data transfer .
40 English SETTINGS Cancel cancels the disable call waitin g Check status displays whether the opt ion is active and for whi ch type of call. To use the call waiting feature: 1. When you have a ca ll in progress and you rec eive an incoming call, you will hear an audibl e alert and the display indi cates that another call is waiting.
SETTINGS English 41 Configuration You can configu re your Vertu phone with setti ngs that are required for certain services to functio n correctly. These servi ces are multimedia messaging, syn chronisation, e-mail, s treaming and browser.
42 English ALARM CLOCK 7 ALARM CLOCK You can set your Vertu phone to sound an alarm at a desired time. The alarm will sound even if your Ve rtu phone is switched off. Setting the alarm To set the alarm: 1. From the st and-by display, pr ess Menu » Alarm clock » Alarm time .
CONTACTS English 43 8 CONTACTS Your Vertu phone Contacts list has potential ca pacity for up to 1,000 entries. Contacts memory Contact names and numbers can be stored in the phone memory or on the SIM card, o r both. Only one memory can be used at a time.
44 English CONTACTS A message confirms that the number has been copied. Check memory status You can check your Vertu phone's memory to see how much information is stored and h ow much free space is available. To check the memory status: 1. From the stan d-by display, press Menu » Cont acts » Settings » Memory st atus .
CONTACTS English 45 You can also store u p to five text items from the following four types: > E-mail address > Web a d d r e s s > Postal address > Note. Adding inform ation to a contact (Phone memory only ) You can add phone numbers or text items to a contact.

CONTACTS English 49 Play voice tag This will play the voice tag associated with the contact record. Send business card Select a transmission method and then press Select . See “Business cards” on page 46 for further instructions on sending business cards.
50 English ADDITIONS 9 ADDITIONS Gallery You can save images, video clips , graphics, ringing tones and recordings to folders in the ga ller y, and add new fol ders to the ones already there. You can download i mages and tones using MMS, mobile Internet sites, or Vertu PC Suite.
