operating instructions 18 Your Clayton Furnace is capable of burning Wood or Coal. WOOD BURNING: (1)use Hardwood, 18" to 26", split and air dried (seasoned) for six months. (2) set thermostat to "HIGH" before opening feed door. (3) add wood to a convenient level.
Add a thin layer of coal (preferably smaller chunks) to the wood fire, being careful not to disturb it too much or cut off the draft. Then, add a second heavier layer after the coal is ignited and burning well. If necessary, add a third layer to bring the coal up to the top of the front liner (not above!).
20 service hints Do not expect a furnace to draw. It is the chimney that creates the draft. Smoke spillage into the house or exces- sive build-up of water or creosote in the chimney is not functioning properly. Correct the problem before using furnace.
