6 Introduction Introduct ion Thank you for purchasing a Uniden UBC30XL T Handheld Scanner . The scanner is vers atile, compact, and easy t o use. Y ou can program up to 200 f requencies i nto the scanner's memory . The scanner let s you scan transmissi ons and is preprogrammed with servi ce banks and search banks for your conv enience.

14 Setting Up Y our Scanner Setting Up Y our Scanner These guidelines will help you inst all and use your new scanner: • If your scanner receives interferenc e or electrical noise, move the scann er or its antenna away from the source.

17 Setting Up Y our Scanner Note: Always use 50-ohm, RG-58, or RG-8, coaxial cable to connec t an out door antenna. If the antenna is over 1 5 metres f rom the scanne r , use RG-8 l ow- loss dielectri c coaxial cable. Y ou can get a BNC adapter at your local elec tronics stor e.
18 Setting Up Y our Scanner Attaching the Belt Clip T o make your scanner easier to car ry when you are on the go, use the supplied bel t clip. Slide the belt clip into the hange r piece on the back of the scanner . T o remove, slid e up the belt clip pulli ng the pinch at t he middle of the bel t clip.

20 About Y our Scanner A Look At T he Keyp ad Y our scanner's keys have var ious func tions la beled on the key tops and below the key s. T o select the functi on labeled on a key , simply press the key . T o select the fun ction labeled below a key , first pres s FNC then r elease it .
21 About Y our Scanner F/M / MW F/M – Switches between Frequency Mode and Memory Mode. FNC + MW briefl y – Regist er a frequency in to channel in Frequency Sear ch Mode and Frequency hol d mode.
22 About Y our Scanner VOL/SQ / DELA Y VOL/SQ – Switches volume setting and squelch setting. FNC + DELA Y – Change the delay time in Memory Scan Mode, Memory Hold Mode, Frequency Sear ch Mode and Frequency Hol d Mode. BAND / STEP BAND – Select the band in Frequency Sear ch Mode and Memory Scan Mode.
23 About Y our Scanner A Look At T he Display The display has indic ators that show the scanner' s current oper ating st atus. The display informati on helps you unders ta nd how your scanner operates. - appears only when t he functi on mode is on.
24 About Y our Scanner L/O - appears when you manually select a channel you locked out or a skip freq uency . PRI - appears when the priori ty feature is t urned on. DLY - appears when you sel ect a del ay . - aler ts y ou when the b attery power get s low .
25 Operation Oper atio n T urnin g On The Scanner and Setting Squelch Note: Make sur e the scanne r's an tenna is connected before you tur n it on. 1. Press and hol d PWR for 2 seconds. The scanner turns On. 2. Press VOL/SQ . SQ appears wit h the current setting.
26 Operation 3. Press PWR or wait for 2 second s to return to t he mode you wer e in. Y ou can search f or Air , FM Radio and VHF High band without knowing the spec ific frequencies used in your ar ea.
27 Operation Editing an d Erasing a Frequency Follow the step s to edit the frequency . 1. Press and hol d FNC + F/M . 2. Repeatedly press or to move t he cursor to the digit you want to edit. 3. Repeatedly pr ess FNC + or to change the number . 4. T o register the f requency , press FNC + MW .
28 Operation resumes scanning auto matically af ter the delay time (see Delay on Page 29). Not es: • If you have not stored frequenci es into any channels, t he scanner d oes not scan. • If the scanner picks up unwanted p artial or very weak transmis sions, incre ase the squelch level .
29 Special Features S pecial Featu res Delay Y ou can program from 0 to 5 delay int o any channel or frequency . If you set delay time fo r 1 to 5 seconds, scanner cont inues to monitor the channel frequency f or 1 to 5 seconds af ter the transmi ssion stops befor e resuming scanning or sear ching.
30 Special Features T o cancel Search Ski p for all the frequ ency you have set Search Skip, press RSM/HOLD to st op searching i n Search Mode, then press and h old L/O . A confirmation tone sounds. Note: If you sel ect more than 40 frequencie s to skip, the oldest frequency wil l be deleted automatical ly .
31 Special Features Follow thes e steps to s elect a d iff erent channe l in a bank as the priority channel . 1. Manually sel ect the c hannel you want to select as the priority channel . 2. Press FNC + PR I . P appears above the selected channel number .
32 T roubleshooting T roubleshootin g If your UBC30XL T i s not perf orming properly , try t he following st eps. Problem Possible Cause Suggestion Improper reception. The scanner ’s antenna might need to be adjusted. Check the antenna connection or move or repositi on the antenna.
33 T roubleshooting Resetting the Scanner If the scanner's display locks up or stop s operati ng properly , you might need to reset the scanner . Caution: Thi s procedure clears a ll the in formation (except the band plan data) you have stored i n the scanner .
34 Care and Maintenance Care and Mainten ance Keep the scanner dry . If it get s wet, wipe it dry immediately . Use and store the scanner only in normal temperat ure environment s. Handle the scanner caref ully: do n ot drop it. Keep the scanner away from dust and dirt, and wipe i t with a d amp cloth occasiona lly to keep it loo king new .
35 Care and Maintenance • Clean the out side of the scanner with a mild detergent. • T o prevent scr atches, do not use abrasi ve cleaners or solve nts. Be caref ul not to rub th e LCD window . • Do not use ex cessive amount s of water . Rep airs Do not attempt any rep air .
