4 Slope Operation Slopes are a major factor relate d to slip and fall accidents which can result in severe injury. Operati on on slopes requires extra caut ion. If you feel uneasy on a slope, do not mow it. For your safety, use the slope gauge included as part of this ma nual to measure slopes befor e operating this unit on a sloped or hill y area.
5 SECTION 2: SLOPE GAUGE Use this page as a guide to determine slopes where you may not opera te safely. Do not operate your lawn mower on such sl opes.
6 SECTION 3: SETTING UP Spark Plug Wire 1. Disconnect spark plu g wire from the spark plug, and ground it ag ainst the engine. 2. If engine is equipped wi th a rubber boot, attach rubber boot to a bolt on the engine to gro und.
7 Starter Rope 1. The starter rope is attached to the engine. Addition al rope may be wound around the starter handle. If so, unwind th e rope from the handle . 2. With the spark plug wire disconnected and grounded, depress the blad e control handle an d pull the rope out of the engine.
8 SECTION 4: OPERATING YOUR LAWN MOWER Know your lawn mowe r Blade Control Handle The blade control hand le is located on the upper handle of the mower. See Fig ure 6. The blade control handle must be de pressed in order to operate the unit. Release the blade control handl e to stop the engine and blade.
9 Starting Engine • If your unit is equipped with a primer , prime engine as instructed in th e separate engine manual packed with your unit. • Standing behind the unit, depress the blade control handle and hold it ag ainst the upper handle as shown in Figure 7.
10 SECTION 5: MAKING ADJUSTMENTS Cutting Height Each wheel has a heigh t adjustment lever to change the cutting height of the mower . 1. To change the height of cut, squeeze adjuster lever toward the wh eel, moving up or down to selected he ight. NOTE: All wheels must be in the same height of cut.
11 SECTION 6: MAINTAINING YOUR LAWN MOWER General Recommendations • Always obse rve safety rules when performing an y maintenance. • The warranty on this lawn mower does not cover it ems that have b een subjec ted to operato r abuse or negligence.
12 Blade Care and Replacement Periodically inspect the blade adapte r for cracks, especially if you strike a fo reign object. Replace when nece ssary. Follow the steps belo w for blade service: • Disconnect s park plug wire from spark plug. • Tip mower as specified in separate engin e manual.
13 SECTION 7: TROUBLESHOOTING NOTE: For repairs beyond the minor ad justments listed above, contact an authorized service de aler. Pr oblem Cause Engine fails to start 1. Blade control handle disenga ged. 2. Spark plug wire disconnected. 3. Fuel tank empty or stale fuel.
