4 2 Safe Operation Practices T raining 1. Read, understand, and f ollow all instructions on the machine and in the manual(s) bef ore attempting to assemble and oper ate. K eep this manual in a saf e place f or future and regular ref erence and for ordering replacement par ts.

6 3 Setting Up Y our Snow Thr ower NOTE : R efe rences to right or le ft side of the snow th row er ar e dete r - mined f rom behind the unit in the ope rating position . 1 . Obser ve the lower rear area of the sn ow thrower to be sure both c ables are alig ned with rol ler guides.

Shut off engine and remain behind handles unti l all mo ving parts have st oppe d before un- cloggin g. The cl ean-o ut tool is mounted to t he rear of the auger housing a nd is desig ned to clear a cl ogged ch ute .
8 4 Operating Y our Snow Thr ower Now that you hav e set up your snow thrower for operatio n, get acquainted wi th its contr ols and features. These are des cribed b elow and illustr at ed in Fig ure 4- 1 . Th is knowledg e will allow you to use your new equipment to it s fullest p ot entia l.

Alway s wear safety glasses while operating the snow th rower , or while per for ming an y adjust - ments or repairs on it.
10 Gas & Oil Fill-Up Ser vice th e engine wit h gasoline an d oil as instru cted in the sep arate engine manual pa cked separately with your snow thrower . Read instru ctions c arefully . Starting The Engine 1 . Attac h spark plug w ire to spark plug.
11 3. When di sconnec ting the ex tension cor d, alwa ys unplug t he end at the three -pron g wall outlet before unplug ging the o pposite end fro m the snow thrower . 4. Move thrott le control to STOP posi tion. 5. Remove the ignit ion key (Do not tur n ke y) to prevent unauthor iz ed use of e quipment.
12 5 Making Adjustments A uger Control Refer to Auger Contro l T es t on P age 1 1 to adjust t he auger cont rol. Shift Cable If the full r ange of spee ds (for ward and reverse) ca nnot be achi ev ed, refer to the fig ures to the right an d adjust the shi ft cab le as follows : 1 .

14 6 Maintaining Y our Snow Thr ower W ARNING Before lubr icating, repairing, or in spect- ing, disengage al l controls and st op engine. W ait until all mo ving parts have come to a complete stop. K eep all gre ase and oil off of the rubber f riction wheel an d aluminu m driv e plat e.
15 6 Maintaining Y our Snow Thr ower NOTE : Dr ain the gaso line from the sn ow thrower , or place a p iece of plast ic under th e gas cap. 2. Carefully pivot th e snow thrower up and for ward so that it rest s on the auger hous ing.
16 A ugers • The auger s are secured to the s piral shaf t with two shear pins a nd cotter pi ns. If the auger shou ld strike a foreign ob ject or ic e jam, the snow thrower is de signed so that the p ins may shear . Refer to Figure 6 -9. • If the aug ers will not turn, c heck to see if th e pins have sheared.
17 Friction Wheel Remov al If the snow t hrower fails to drive with the d rive control engage d, and per forming the dr ive control cab le adjust- ment on page 12 fails to correc t the proble m, the frict ion wheel may need to b e replaced. Foll ow the instruc tions below.
18 7 Off-Season Storage Never st ore snow throw er with fuel in tank indoors or in poorly v entilated areas, where fuel fumes ma y reach an open flame, spark or pilot l ight as on a furnace, w ater heater , clothes dryer or gas appliance. W ARNING Drain fuel int o an approv ed container outdoors, aw ay from any open flame.
