14 When using a chemical clea ning cloth, f ollow the instructions for th e cleaning clot h y ou’ re using. Music CD - Use a disc that has the mark on the disc label surf ace. When discs that fa ll outside of the CD standard are used, stable playback and op timum sound quality cannot be guarant eed.
15 Precautions Concerning the Built-in Hard Disk - Do not format the built-in hard disk. If th e disk were to b e formatted, the firmware (which is the software tha t gigabeat uses to operate ) would be deleted and the product would no longer be able to f unction.
16 AC Adapter When using the AC adapter, carefully read and observe the in formation in “Safety Precautions” ( > p. 3) as well as the following i nstructions. Refer to “Spe cifications ” ( > p. 151) for the type of the supplied AC adapter.

Plus Touch Operation The Plus Touch i s a touch sensitive i nput device. You can either tap, touch, press and hold or slide on the Plus To uch depending on the fu nction your are using.
22 USB CRADLE a USB/LINE O UT switch Switch to “LINE OUT” to output soun d from the LINE OUT jack for connection with PC speakers or an au dio system. ( > p. 79) b r Button (RipRec) Transfers an entire music CD to the gigabeat without having to open the gigabeat room applica tion or drag and drop tracks.
23 How to connect the gigab eat with the USB C RADLE • Connection • Removal Insert and press down firmly. When removing the gigabeat from the USB CRADLE, pull straight out in the direction of the arrow in the diagram.
24 Getting read y Charging the built-in battery When the AC adapter is connecte d to the gigabeat, chargi ng starts automati cally. If you are using the gigabea t for the first time, or wh en the gigabeat hasn’t been used for prolonged period, fu lly charge the battery before u sing.
25 Charge Using the USB CRADLE Connect the gigabeat to the USB CRADLE. Then, connect in the order A to C shown below. See “How to connect the gigabeat with the USB CRADLE” ( > p. 23) for connecting the gigabeat wit h USB CRADLE. Connect to the outlet.
26 Charge by connecting t o PC Using USB Cable Connect the gigabea t to PC via the supplied USB cab le. Battery power may be used when the gigabe at is operating such as transf erring tracks even if it is connect ed via USB.
27 Turning the Power ON/OFF a Press and hold the POWER button for two seconds or longer. Press and hold the POWER button for two seconds or longer when power is on. A DATE/TIME Setup windo w will be displayed when using for t he first time. Set the DATE/TI ME.

29 Connecting the gigabeat ® to Your PC a Turn on the PC. b Connect the AC adapter to th e USB CRADLE, turn on the gigabeat, and then connect t he gigabeat to the USB CRADLE. Refer to “Charging the built-i n battery” ( > p. 24 ) . c Use the USB cable to connect the PC and the USB CRADLE.
30 ! Note - When making the USB connecti on of the PC and the gigabeat t o transfer data or to do something else, connect the AC adapter. F ailure to connect the A C adapter will wear down the battery and could cause the data stored in the gi gabeat to be deleted.
31 Disconnecting the gigabeat from Your PC When the gigabeat is conn ected to your PC and you are using Windows Medi a Player 10 or Napster, the di sconnection procedure s are not necessary.

When in PHOTO mode, photo-related fun ctions, etc. - Pressing the MENU button agai n will close the Menu screen.
39 OPERATION GUIDE The operation guide correspon ds to input on the Pl us Touch sensor and acts as a navigation ai d for the Plus T ouch. - The operation guide can be hidden by setti ng “OPERATION GUIDE” to “OFF” in the Menu screen, or by setting “OPERATION GUIDE” to “OFF” in the “SCREEN” menu of the “SETUP” menu.

54 Transferring tracks using the “synchronize” function You can transfer tracks (wi th folders) in the synchroni ze folder to the giga beat by setting the synchroni ze folder in your PC. Setting the Synchronize Fold er a Click “Options” on the “Tool” menu of gigabeat room.

59 Accessing “Purchase information site” You can access the Purchase informat ion site for tracks by Windows Medi a Player 10. 1 Press the MENU button while the track you want to purchase is played. 2 Select “PURCHASE INFORMATION SITE” on the MENU screen and set to “ACCESS”.
60 Transferring tracks using Napster ® Using Napster, tracks can be transferred to the gig abeat. You can either use the “Napster To Go” subscri ption service or buy indi vidual tracks. ◆ Precautions for use To transfer tracks to the gi gabeat using Napster, Windows Media Player 10 must be installed in Windows XP.

71 Setting the Equalizer You can select a desired eq ualizer mode ( > p. 142) . a Press the MENU button in the Playback window. b Touch the top or bottom of th e Plus Touch and select “EQUALIZER/SRS WOW”. Touch the right of the Plus Tou ch. c Touch the top or bottom of th e Plus Touch and select t he equalizer mode that you want to set.
72 * The SRS WOW function (which offers a nat ural, three-dimensional sound stage, rich bass, and a distinctly delineated clear sound) is activated. There are 3 types of function modes. / Note - Touching the t op or bottom of the Plus Touch temporaril y sets the sound qua lity setting of the sel ected equalizer.
73 - The equalizer mode can also be selected b y pressing the equalizer b utton ( ) on the wired remote control. - You can also set the equaliz er mode in “SETUP” - “AUDIO”.

79 Listening with PC speakers or an audio system Use LINE OUT jack of the USB CRADLE to play with PC speakers or an audio system. a Connect the gigabea t to the USB CRADLE. b Connect the LINE OUT jack of the USB CRADLE with a PC speaker or another de vice.
80 Managing tracks The recycle bin and deleting tracks You can move unwan ted tracks or playl ists to the recycle bin. Once in the recycle bin, the files will no longer play back.
81 Viewing Tracks in the Recycle Bin a Touch the top or bottom of th e Plus Touch on the “AUDIO” menu to select “RECYCLE BIN”. Touch the right of the Plus Tou ch. Tracks in the rec ycle bin will be displayed. The track data that was placed in the recycle bin cannot be played back unle ss restored.

87 Refreshing the Audio library You can refres h the library in the PC or gigabeat room. Libraries can be refreshed aut omatically or manuall y. Refreshing the Library Automatically The audio libraries in th e gigabeat are created automatic ally when tracks are transferred to the gig abeat from the PC.

90 Editing trac k information Obtaining CD music information via the Internet You can obtai n CD music inf ormation (title , artist, al bum info., e t c) via the Internet by registering with Gracenote with CD information dat abase service of Gracenote.
91 Obtaining Music Inform ation from Gracenote a Insert the music CD in t he CD-ROM drive of your PC. b Click “CD Button” of the devi ce panel. Connect to the Gracenote server and obtai n the album name, artist name, son g titles and other music information of that music CD.
92 Obtaining music information via the Internet Track Searches a Select tracks to be searched for in t he audio mode display of gigabeat room and click “MusicID Button”. A connection will be made to the Gracenote server and a pop up screen with results will appea r.
