| 1 1 Introduction W elcome to the iP or t e T elos iP ort is designed to help you achieve one of two objectives: Connect two Livewire-equipped facilities over a wide-ar ea network, suc h that they ♦ appear to be local to each other . As many as 8 bi-directio nal channels are possible.
2 | Section 1 loss is routine such as on the public Internet. There are congurable bu ers to accommodate jitt er , but longer buer lengths add to dela y . When you need to use non-QoS- controlled links, the T elos Z/IP family products are a better choice because they hav e adaptive mechanisms to deal with netw ork problems.

It automatically adapts its rate to the port at the other end of the connection. F or both jacks, the iP or t ’ s Ethernet mode is set per manently to AUTO , so the other end must be, as well.

| 7 2 Livewir e -W AN Link Livewire is a professional-grade IP Audio system, used over controlled local area networks. As a modern replacement for older analog or TDM digital sy stems, it offers very low delay and high audio fidelity .

A lower value gives lower delay , but depends upon the networ k to have low jit- ter . ere ar e a range of values, so that y ou can experiment to find the optimum for your network conditions.

STREAMING | 15 3 Str eaming W hen used with an appropriate ser ver , the iP ort can be used as a simple, reliable encoder for Internet or internal audio distr ibution. Bec ause the iP ort generates standards-based MPEG streams, a wide variety of PC-hosted and hardware play ers can be used for listen- ing.

STREAMING | 29 W eb Inter face T o use the W eb interface on the same PC where Steamc ast is running, open a W eb browser and point it to: http://localhost:9800. e number af ter the colon is the IP port number , which we have set via the Steamcast configuration file to 9800 in our example.
