This chipset functions as a Media and Communications Processor (MCP). Controllers for the system memory are integrated directly into AMD Opteron processors.
Chapter 1: Introduction 1-1 1 CPU Overheat/Fan Fail LED and Control This feature is available when the user enables the CPU overheat/Fan Fail warning function in the BIOS. This allows the user to de fi ne an overheat temperature. When this temperature is exceeded or when a fan failure occurs, the Overheat/Fan Fail warning LED is triggered.

Chapter 2: Installation 2-15 2-9 Jumper Settings Explanation of Jumpers T o modify the operation of the motherboard, jumpers can be used to choose between optional settings. Jumpers create shorts between two pins to change the function of the connector .
H8DCT -HLN4F/HIBQF SERVERBOARD USER'S MANUAL 2-16 I2C to PCI-Express Slots JI 2 C1/JI 2 C2 slots allows you to enable the I 2 C bus to communicate with a PCI-Express slot. For the jumpers to work properly , please set both jumpers to the same setting.
Chapter 2: Installation 2-17 Power LED DP2 is an Onboard Power LED. When this LED is lit, it means power is present on the serverboard. Be sure to turn off the system and unplug the power cord(s) before removing or installing components.

Chapter 2: Installation 2-19 UID LED (LE1) A rear UID LED Indicator, located at LE1, works in conjunction with the rear UID switch to provide easy identi fi cation for a unit that might be in need of service. Refer to Page 2-12 for further UID details.

This battery must be replaced only with the same or an equivalent type recommended by the manufacturer (CR2032).

If you have followed all of the procedures below and still need assistance, refer to the ‘T echnical Support Procedures’ and/or ‘Returning Merchandise for Service’ section(s) in this chapter .

Chapter 4: BIOS 4-1 Chapter 4 BIOS 4-1 Introduction This chapter describes the AMIBIOS™ Setup utility for the H8DCT-HLN4F/HIBQF serverboard. The 16 Mb AMI BIOS® is stored in a fl ash chip and can be easily upgraded using a fl oppy disk-based program.
4-2 H8DCT -HLN4F/HIBQF SERVERBOARD USER'S MANUAL 4-2 Main Menu When you fi rst enter AMI BIOS Setup Utility , you will see the Main Menu screen. Y ou can always return to the Main Menu by selecting the Main tab on the top of the screen with the arrow keys.
Chapter 4: BIOS 4-3 W ait for F1 if Error This setting controls the system response when an error is detected during the boot sequence. When enabled, BIOS will stop the boot sequence when an error is detected, at which point you will need to press the F1 button to re-enter the BIOS setup menu.

CS Sparing This setting will reserve a spare memory rank in each node when enabled. Options are Enabled and Disabled . Bank Swizzle Mode This setting Enables or Disables the bank swizzle mode.

Chapter 4: BIOS 4-7 Primary/Secondary/Third/Fourth IDE Master/Slave LBA/Large Mode LBA (Logical Block Addressing) is a method of addressing data on a disk drive. The options are Disabled and Auto . Block (Multi-Sector T ransfer) Block mode boosts IDE drive performance by increasing the amount of data transferred.

Chapter 4: BIOS 4-1 1 Hardware Health Con fi guration CPU Overheat Alarm This setting allows you to specify the type of alarm for CPU overheating. Options include The Early Alarm and The Default Alarm . Fan Speed Control Modes This feature allows the user to determine how the system will control the speed of the onboard fans.
4-12 H8DCT -HLN4F/HIBQF SERVERBOARD USER'S MANUAL The Default Alarm (default setting) is enabled when the T ctl value = 70, and is disabled when the T ctl value drops from 70 to 67.
Chapter 4: BIOS 4-13 ACPI V ersion Features Use this setting the determine which ACPI version to use. Options are ACPI v1.0, ACPI v2.0 and ACPI v3.0. NUMA Support This setting allows you to enable or disable the building of an ACPI SRA T table. WHEA Support This setting allows you to enable or disable Windows Hardware Error Architecture.
4-14 H8DCT -HLN4F/HIBQF SERVERBOARD USER'S MANUAL IP Address This submenu sets the IP address source as either Static or DHCP . Selecting Static allows you to manually set the IP Address, Subnet Mask and Gateway Address. In the fi eld provided here enter the IP address in the decimal form of xxx.
Chapter 4: BIOS 4-15 4-3 Security Menu AMI BIOS provides a Supervisor and a User password. If you use both passwords, the Supervisor password must be set fi rst. Change Supervisor Password Select this option and press <Enter> to access the sub menu, and then type in the password.

Appendix A BIOS Error Beep Codes During the POST (Power-On Self-T est) routines, which are performed each time the system is powered on, errors may occur . Non-fatal errors are those which, in most cases, allow the system to continue the boot-up process.
