The manual describes how to use your CLIÉ handheld and the Personal Information Management (PIM) applications that come with your CLIÉ handheld.

Chapter 1 System requirements To install and operate the Palm ™ Desktop software on your computer, your computer system must meet the following requirements: ■ OS: Microsoft ® Windows ® 98/Windows ® 98 Second Edition/ Windows ® 2000 Professional/Windows ® Millennium Edition/ Windows ® XP.

Chapter 2 Chapter 2 Setting up your Sony CLI É Handheld – Basics This chapter describes basic hardware setup procedures that you should perform before you start using your CLI É handheld in combination with your computer.
22 Squeeze both sides of the connector and pull it out. Note Before you use your CLI É handheld for the first time, make sure to charge it. You can charge your CLI É handheld by connecting the supplied AC adapter directly to your CLI É handheld. The AC adapter requires a 110 – 240 V AC power supply.
23 Setting up your Sony CLI É Handheld – Basics Chapter 2 The first time you turn on your CLI É handheld, setup instructions appear onscreen. Follow these instructions to perform initial settings, digitizer calibration, current time, date, and year settings (required for operation).
24 3 Press lightly on the screen with the stylus. This action is called “ tapping. ” The digitizer calibration screen appears. Calibration aligns the internal circuitry of the handheld with its touch-sensitive screen so your CLI É handheld can detect the task you want to perform when you tap an element onscreen.

26 11 Tap each number of the minute, and then tap the arrow v or V to set the minutes to the current time. 12 Tap AM or PM. 13 Tap OK. The Set Time screen closes. 14 Tap Next. The Setup Complete screen appears. 15 Tap Next. The Enter Data screen appears.

29 Setting up your Sony CLI É Handheld – Basics Chapter 2 The Palm ™ Desktop for CLI É software extends many of the functions of your CLI É handheld to your computer, featuring the same main applications as those on your CLI É handheld: Address Book, Date Book, To Do List, Memo Pad, and desktop e-mail connectivity.
30 Step 4: Installing the Palm ™ Desktop for CLI É software onto your computer 3 Click Install Palm Desktop for CLI É . The setup program starts and the Setup window is displayed. 4 Click Next. The Palm Desktop for CLI É 4.0.1 software installation begins.

34 What is a HotSync operation? HotSync, a technology particular to a Palm OS ® platform device, is the one-step operation that allows you to synchronize data between your CLI É handheld and your computer and to back up the CLI É data on your computer.

38 Checking the bundled applications on your Sony CLI É Handheld After you make your CLI É handheld ready for use, start the Application Launcher to display all the available applications on your CLI É handheld. Check the basic and other applications.

50 Installing add-on applications onto your Sony CLI É Handheld or “ Memory Stick ” media 6 Select the applications you want to install on your CLI É handheld. In the Install Tool dialog box, the list of applications you selected is displayed. If you do not want to install an application, select it, and then click Remove.
51 Setting up your Sony CLI É Handheld – Advanced Chapter 3 To install applications to the Memory Stick media You can install applications to the Memory Stick media through the Palm Desktop for CLI É software. Click Change Destination after performing step 6 on page 50.
52 Installing add-on applications by beaming them from another Palm OS ® device Your CLI É handheld is equipped with an IR (infrared) port that you can use to beam an application to another Palm OS ® PDA device that ’ s close by and also has an IR port.

54 Removing add-on applications In the event that your CLI É handheld or “ Memory Stick ” media runs out of memory, or you decide that you no longer need an add-on application you have installed, you can remove it from your CLI É handheld or the “ Memory Stick ” media.
