20 If the recording does n ot start • Make sure the re co rd er is not loc ked (pa ge 16, 47). • Make sure the MD is not record-protecte d (page 50).

Connect the recor der to a CD pla yer or a casset te record er usin g eith er digi tal (op tical) input o r analog (line ) input.
25 Recording i n analog (Analog Recording) The sou nd will be inpu t from the conn ected equip ment as an ana log signal , but recorded digita lly to the dis c. T o conn ect to a sound s our ce, an option al line ca ble is requ ired. When con nectin g the ca ble, make sure to insert th e connectors f irmly .
26 Long-time recor ding (MDLP) Select each reco rd in g mode accord ing to the reco rding time that you want. Ster eo reco rding is possib le at 2 ti mes (LP2) o r 4 times (LP 4) the norma l (stere o) recording time . Monaural record ing at 2 tim es n or mal record ing time is a lso possible.
27 4 Pres s . or > repeatedly until “OFF ” flashes in th e display , and then press ENTER. If yo u want “LP:” added , select “O N” in this ste p, and then press ENTER. Note “LP:” i s added to t racks check ed-out in L P stereo fr om you r computer regardless of the “LP S tamp” setting.
28 How is group informat io n rec ord ed? When r ecording in group mode, t he group informatio n is written to the disc name recor ding ar ea. This inform atio n co nsist s of text s t rings that are written as sh own in the follo wing exa mp le.

52 System limitations The re co rding syste m in your Min i Disc recor der is radically d if fer en t from those us ed in cassette and D A T decks and is characterized b y the limitat ions described below . Note, ho wever , that the se limitations a re due to the inherent natur e of the MD record ing system itself and not to mechani cal causes.
53 The playing time of a checked -out trac k is different f ro m the time th at appea rs on yo ur computer monitor . This is due to a calculatio n discrepancy betwee n the reco rder an d the co mputer . Y ou cannot chec k out track s that will fill u p the remaining record ing time on the di sc .

68 Recording audio data to your computer Y o u can re cord audio data to yo ur computer from sources s uch as audio CDs and the I nternet (page 76) . On the computer Listening Y ou can listen to an audio CD in the CD- ROM dri ve o f yo ur co mputer , or audi o data in the hard di sk drive (page 83).
69 What is a Net MD? Net MD is a stand ard tha t enables th e transf er of audio data from a compute r to a MiniDisc de vice. T o use this Net MD wi th your computer requires a so ftware applic ation called “Son icSt age”.
