18 Recor ding an MD right away! This sect ion expl ains the bas ic procedure for making digi tal recordi ngs using an op tical cable connected to a CD player , Digital TV or other digital eq uipment. F or other re cording oper ations, see “V arious ways of rec ording” (page 23) .

24 T o start/stop recor ding in sync with the sound source (Synchro- recording) Durin g synchro- record i n g, the record er starts a nd stops re cord ing in sync w ith th e sound so urce .
25 Long-time recor ding (MDLP) Sele ct each recor ding mo de acc ording to the recording time that you want. Stereo reco rding is possib le at 2 times (LP2) or 4 times (LP4) the normal (stereo) recording t ime. Monaural recordin g at 2 times normal recording time is also possible.
26 Notes • It is recommen ded th at you us e the AC power adaptor for long record i n gs. • When yo u recor d in LP4 m ode, mom entary noise may be produced o n very rar e occas ions with cer tain sou nd sources .
27 Adding track marks au to m a ti c ally (Auto T i m e Stamp) Use this featur e to add tra ck marks automatically at specif ied interv als when recording through the analo g input connector . This functi on is con veni en t f or recording long period of t ime, such as lectu res, m eeting s, etc.

39 Using t he grou p function What is the group function? The group func tion is pro vided to allo w play back of di scs with gr oup sett ings. The grou p functi on is c on ven i e nt for pl aybac k of MDs on which se veral alb ums or C D single s have been recor de d in MD LP (LP2/LP4) mode.

67 The meani ng of “no sound” “No sound” describes a rec orde r condi tion in which the inp ut l evel is about 4.8 mV du rin g analo g inp ut or le ss tha n –89 dB during op tical (dig it al ) inp ut (with 0 dB as fu ll bit (the maximum recordable lev el for a MiniDisc)).

On the computer Listening Y ou can listen to an a udio CD in the CD- ROM dri ve of your co mput er , or audio data in the hard di sk drive (page 83).
69 What is a Net MD? Net MD is a stand ard that enables th e transfer of audio data from a computer to a MiniDisc de vice. T o use this Net MD with you r computer requir es a software application called “Son icSt age”.

79 Labeling audio data After reco rding has complete d, you can labe l the audio data in the Music Driv e. Once audio data in the Music Driv e is labeled , the label informatio n will be transfer red to a disc alon g with the audi o dat a, all ow ing you t o vie w the da ta on y our Net MD.
80 T ransferring audio data from your computer to the Net MD (Check-out) Audi o data stor ed on t he Musi c Drive can be tran sferre d to yo ur N et MD. This process is called “ C heck-out ”. The number of ti mes a track can be checked out is restricte d in this soft ware f or the pr otect ion of copyri ghts (p age 98) .
