4 Before u s in g your camera This digital st ill c am era uses 8 cm CD-R s/ C D - R Ws as r ecording media. “CD-R” or “CD-R W” mentioned above is indicated as “disc” in this manual. When a distinction between CD-Rs and CD-R Ws is necessary , “disc” is indicate d as “CD-R” or “CD-R W .

Capture imag es with your compute r You ca n ea sil y co py image s ont o you r compu ter throug h a CD -R OM drive or the USB c able, and view a nd mod ify images on your compu t er using appl ication s o ftware.

When yo u perform fi na lization (page 85) using your c amera t o view image s through a CD-ROM dr ive, ini tialization i s also autom a tically pe rfor med, an d you can contin ue to record images .

21 Shooti ng st ill images Image size and quali ty You ca n ch oose imag e si ze ( num be r of pixe l s ) and image qu a li ty (com pr ession ratio) ba sed on the kind o f images you want to shoot.
22 Basic still image shooting — Auto adjustmen t mode , Set the mo de dial to , and turn on the pow er. The name of t he folder whe re the image will be reco rded appe ar s o n the LCD scr een for approxima tely five sec onds. • This camera can create new folders and select folders to be stored in the disc (page 43).

35 View in g stil l images Viewing images on a TV screen If you w ant to vi ew imag es on a TV scr een, you need a TV with a video inpu t ja c k and the A/V co nnecting ca ble (suppl ied). The colo r system of th e TV must ma tch that of your digi t al still c ame ra.
36 Deleting i mages , Set the mo de dial to , a nd turn on th e camera. Press b / B on the control bu tton to se le ct the im age you want to delete. • When using a CD-R, the di sc remaining space does not increase even if you delete images.

46 • Y ou cannot make manual adjustments when shooting movies. • If the proper exposure is not obtained after making the s ettings, the se tting value indicators on the screen may flash when th e shutter b utton is pressed halfway down. Y o u can shoot in this condition , but we recomm end that yo u adjust the flashing values again.

49 Advanced still im age shoot ing Choosing a focus operation — AF Mode Mode dial: SET UP You ca n sel e ct from the fol low ing three focus modes for your c amera. Single AF This mode al lows accurat e focusing ov er a wide range fr om nea r to d istant subj ects, and is us e ful for s h ooting s t a tionar y subjects.
50 Shooting techniques When shooting with the subject at the edge of the frame, the camer a may focus on the center instead of on the subject at the edge of the frame. In a cas e l ik e t hi s, u se AF lock t o focus on the subject, and then recompose the picture and shoot (except i n Continuous AF m ode).

54 Spot meteri ng ( ) Light is meas ure d o nly for the spec if ic region wher e the subject is located. This le ts you ad ju s t the ex p os ure to the su bject even when th e subjec t is back lit or ther e is stro ng contrast be twe en the subjec t a nd th e backgr ound.

Still image edi ting 75 Protecting image s — Protect Mode dial: This fun ction prote cts images agai nst acciden tal eras ure. • If you protect an image, the disc remaining space will decrease. I f you cancel the protection, the disc remaining space will also decrease.

Still image edi ting 77 Changing image s ize — Resize Mode dial: You ca n ch ange the image size of a recor ded im age, an d save it as a ne w file. You can re siz e to the fol low ing sizes. 5.0M , 3. 1M, 1.2 M, VGA The orig inal image is ret ained even af ter resizing.
78 • If you m ark an image shot in T IFF mode with a print (DP OF) mark, only the uncomp ressed (TIFF) ima ge is pri nte d, and the JPEG image recorded at the same time is not printed. • If you mark an image with a print mark, the disc remaining space will decrease.

87 Enjoying im ages on you r computer Using the supplied 8cm CD adapter a Sli d e the disc i nt o the inn er groove and under two of the tabs on the inner circle of the adaptor in the order shown by the numbe rs. If your CD -ROM drive does not support 8 c m C D, use the suppl ied 8 cm CD ad aptor.
