5 US This manual mainly expl ains operations using the buttons on the system , but the same operations can also be performed using the buttons on the remote having the same or similar names.
6 US Notes on discs • This system can play CD-R/CD-RW discs edited by the user. However, note that playback of some discs may not be possible depending on the re cording device used for recording or the disc condition.
Getting Started 7 US Do the following procedures 1 to 4 to hook up your system using the supplied cords and accessories (page 36). 1 Connect the front speakers. Connect the speaker cords to the FRONT SPEAKER (SPEAKER A) termin als. Tip Connect the spe ake r cords to the te rmi n als on the speakers.
8 US 2 Connect the surround speakers. Connect the speaker cords to the SURROUND SPEAKER (SPEAKER B) terminals and to the terminals on the speakers as shown in the tip above. 3 Connect the FM and AM an ten nas. Set up the AM loop antenna, then connect it.
Getting Started 9 US There are 3 ways to place the front speakers and the surround speakers. Example 1: Place the surround speakers on the top of the front speakers as shown below. Example 2: Place the speakers at an equal distance from your listening position as shown below.
10 US 1 Press Z OPEN/CLOSE. The disc tray slides out. 2 Place a disc with the label side facing up on the disc tray. To load additional discs, press DISC SKIP to rotate the disc tray. 3 Press Z OPEN/CLOSE to close the disc tray. Note Do not push the disc tray when closing it as this may cause malfu nction.
CD/MP3 11 US 3 Press NX (or N on the remote) . NX indicator lights up. Tips • You cann ot change the play mod e during playback. To change th e play mode, press x to st op play ba ck. • When an MP3 audio track wi th ID3 tag is played back, “ID3” l ights up i n the disp lay.
12 US Press REPEAT repeatedly until “REP” o r “REP1” lights up in the display. REP: All the tracks on the disc, or all the tracks in the album* are played back repeatedly up to five times. REP1: A single track is pl ayed back repeatedly until “REP1” is canceled.
T uner 13 US You can preset up to 20 FM stations and 10 AM stations. You can then tune in any of those stations simply by sel ecting the corresponding preset number. Automatic tuning preset You can automatically tune in all of the stations that can be received in your area and then store the frequency of your favorite stations manually.
14 US To improve tuner reception When the tuner reception is p oor, set the CD power manage function to “C D PO WER OFF”. The default setting is “CD POWE R ON”. Use buttons on the system for the operation. 1 Press FUNCTION repeatedly until “CD” appears in the display.
Ta p e 15 US 1 Press A Z or Z B. 2 Load a tape in deck A or B. You can use TYPE I (normal) tap e. 1 Load a tape. 2 Press FUNCTION (or TAPE on the remote) repeatedly until “ TAPE A” or “TAPE B” appears in the display.
16 US Notes • Do not press A Z or Z B while playing a tape, otherwise the tape could be dam aged. • The AMS func tion may not operate co rr ectly under the follo wing circums tances: – When the unre corded spac e between song s is less than 4 seco nds long .
T ape – Recording 17 US Recording a disc by specifying track order — Program Edit You can record tracks from all the discs in the order you want. Between step 2 and step 3 of “CD Synchro Recording” ( page 16), perform step 1 to 6 of “Creat ing your own program” (page 12).
18 US You can reinforce the bass and create a more powerful sound. Press X-GROOVE. Each time you press the button, the display changes as follows: X -GROOVE O FF Y X -GROOVE O N Tip The default setting is “X-GROOVE ON”. Press one of the Preset Effect buttons to select the preset effect you want.
Sound Adjust ment 19 US Press SURROUND. Each time you press the button, the display changes as follows: SURROUND ON Y SURROUND OFF Note When you sel ect certain preset effec t, the surr ound effect may be canceled. You can improve the sound quality of MP3 audio tracks during playback.
20 US To cancel the X-ROUND effect Press X-ROUND ON/OFF repeatedly until “X-ROUND OFF” appears in the display. The X-ROUND indicator turns off. Notes • If you ca nnot get th e sound eff ect you want , check the speaker connections.
Sound Adjust ment 21 US You need to connect a video game player (see “Hooking up optional components” on page 27). Press GAME. The “GAME” preset effect is selected automatical ly. Tips • If you pre ss GAME while the system is turned off, the syste m turns on au tomatically and GAME is selected as the functio n.
22 US You can set the system to turn off after a certain time, so that you can fall asleep to music. Press SLEEP repeatedly. Each time you press the button, the minute display (the turn-off time) chan.
Timer 23 US 8 Press ENTER. The type of timer, followed by start time, stop time and the music source ap pears in the display. 9 Press ?/1 to turn off the system. Other operations Notes • You cannot sel ect the Play Timer and Ti mer Recording a t the sa me time.
24 US 7 Press DIRECTION repeatedly to select “ g ” to record on one side. Select “ j ” (or “RELAY ”) to record on b oth sides. If you want to record on the reverse side, press h (TAPE B). Then, press x (TAPE B). When you record on both sides, be sure to start from the front side.
Display 25 US You can check the playing time and remainin g time of the current track or current disc. When a CD-TEXT d isc or a disc with MP3 audio tracks is loaded, you can check the information stored on the disc, such as the titles. When the system detects CD-TEXT discs, “CD TEXT” lights up in the display.
26 US You can select the power illuminator as you want. Press ILLUMINATION repeatedly to select the power illuminator you want when t he system is turned on.
Optional Compon ents 27 US To enhance your system, you can connect optional components. Refer to the operating instructions provided with each component. A GAME INPUT VIDEO jack Use video cable (not supplied) to connect the video output of the optional video game player to this jack.
28 US C CD DIGITAL OUT jack Use a digital optical cable (square, not supplied) to connect the digital input of the optional MD deck to this jack. You can then record digital audio from this system. Note There is n o digital audio outp ut from thi s jack duri ng playback o f MP3 audio t racks.
Optional Compon ents 29 US Notes • If you wa nt to switch ba ck to “VIDEO” function, repeat st ep 2 and 3 of “Listen to a connected MD deck”. • If the soun d is distorted or too l ou d when “VIDEO” function is s elected, switc h to “MD” function.
30 US Should you encounter a problem with your system, do the fo llowing: 1 Make sure the power cord and speaker cords are correctly and firmly connected. 2 Find your problem in the troubleshooting checklist below and take the indicated corrective action.
T roub leshooting 31 US The timer do e s no t fu n ction. • Check the timer sett ing (page 22 – 24) and set the clock corre ctly (page 9). • Cancel th e Sleep Ti mer (page 22) . • You cannot activate th e Play Timer and Timer Recordin g simultan eously.
32 US The disc t itle, albu m title, tr ack title, ID3 tag and the CD-TE XT ch aracters do not appear properly. • Use a disc that conf orms with IS O 9660 level 1 , level 2, or Joliet in the expa nsion for mat. • The ID3 ta g is not ver sion 1 or v ersion 2.
T roub leshooting 33 US One of the following messages may appear or flash in the display during operation. CD/MP3 No Disc There is no disc on th e di sc tra y. Cannot Edit • You pressed ED IT before the information of a disc is re ad. • The selec ted disc is a disc wit h MP3 audio tr acks.
34 US On operating voltage Before oper ating the system, chec k that the op er ating voltage of your s y stem is identi cal with the volta ge of your loca l pow er supply.
