6 Getting started Getting starte d Assembly Before you start using your phone, you need to insert a SIM card and the battery. To insert th e SIM card 1 Unlock the bat tery cover. 2 Remove the battery cov er. 3 Slide the SIM c ard into its holder with the golden contacts facing down.

19 Getting started Stroke input A Chinese character is built up of strokes. There ar e more t han 30 bas ic strokes, w hich are gr ouped into 5 stroke ca tegories. E ach category is represent ed on the keypad by one o f the key s - . Th e W ild C ard key , is used when you are not sure of which stroke to use.
20 Getting started Components The basic building units of Chinese characters a re comp onents that are made up of strokes. After entering the first two strokes of the desired character, the component and character cand idates that started with that str oke are displ ayed in the candidat e ro w.
21 Getting started Pinyin input Press the keys cont aining the required Pinyin letters, and the phone will make various prop osals on the screen, according to the pronunciation rules of Mandarin. Be lo w is the k ey m ap pin g of Pi ny in letters on the keypad.

35 Messaging Text mess ages Text messages can contain sim ple pictures, sound effects, animati o ns, and melodies . Before you use messaging You must have a service centre number. The number is supplied by your service provider and is usually sav ed on the SIM card .
