3 SIM card The SIM (Subscribe r Identity Module) ca rd, which you get from your n etwork operator, con tains information about your subscription . Always tur n off your phone and detach the charg er and the battery before you insert or remove the SIM card.
4 Charging the battery The phone battery is partly char ged when y ou buy it. It takes approximately 2.5 hours to fully charge the batte ry. To charge the battery 1 Connect the charge r to the phone with the power icon on the charg er facing u pwards.
5 Memory Stick Micro™ Your phone supports Memory Stick Micro™ (M2™). A memory card adds more storage spac e to your phone, for example, music, rington es, video clips and pictures. You can share your saved information by moving or copying it to other memory card compatibl e devices.
6 Turning on the phone To turn on the phone 1 Press and hold down . 2 Enter your SIM card PIN, if requested. 3 Select Yes to use the setup wizard. Standby After you have turned on the phone and ente red your PIN, the name of your oper ator appear s on the sc reen.
7 Network coverage The network bars show the strength of the GSM ne twork in your area. Move to another lo cation if you have problems calling and network coverage is poor.

10 Key Go to the main menus or select items Scroll between the menus and tabs Select options shown immediately above these keys on the screen Delete items, such as pictures, sounds and contacts. 14 Radio To listen to the radio 1 Connect the hands free to the phone. 2 From standby selec t Menu > Radio . To control the radio • Press or to search for FM radio channels. To save an FM radio channel • Select Options > Save . • Scroll to a position and press Select .
15 Imaging Camera and video recorder You can take pictures and record video clips to view, save or send. You can find your sa ved pictures and video clips in Menu > File manager > Camera a lbum . To take a picture 1 Activate the camera. 2 Use the navigation key to select .

17 To delete pictures and video clips 1 From standby selec t Menu > File manager > Camera album . 2 Scroll to an item an d press . Photo fix You can improve an un der-exposed picture with Photo fix. To improve a picture with Photo fix 1 Activate the camera.
18 To go to a blog address from contacts 1 From standby selec t Menu > Contacts . 2 Select a contact. 3 Scroll to a Web address and select Go to . To transfer pictures to and from your computer You can use Bluetooth™ wireless te chnology and the USB cable to transfer pictu res and video clips between your computer and phone.
19 Calling You must turn on the phone and be w ithin range of a netwo rk. To make a call 1 From standby enter a phone number (with international country code and area co de, if applicable). 2 Press . To end a call • Press . To answer a c all • Press .
20 To make international calls 1 From standby press and hold down until a + sign appears on the screen. 2 Enter the coun try code, area code (with out the first zero) and phone number . 3 Press . To view missed calls fr om standby • When Missed calls: is displayed, select View .
21 Internet You need the correc t Internet settings in your phone . If the settings are n ot in your phone, you ca n: • Get them in a text me ssage from th e network operato r. • On a computer, go to www.sonyericsson.com/support and request a text message wi th the settings.
22 Contacts You can save cont acts in the phone memor y or on the SIM card. You can copy contacts f rom the phon e memory to the SIM card or from the SIM card t o the phon e memory. Default contacts You can choose whic h contac t informatio n is shown as default.
23 Phone contacts Phone contacts can cont ain names, phone numbers and personal infor mation. Th ey are saved in the phone me mory. To add a phone contact 1 From standby selec t Menu > Contacts > New contact . 2 Scroll to Last name: and select Add .
24 To delete a contact 1 From standby selec t Menu > Contacts . 2 Select a contact. 3 Select Options > Delete . To copy contacts to the SIM card 1 From standby selec t Menu > Contacts . 2 Scroll to a co ntact. 3 Select Options > More > Copy to SIM .
25 Music player The file types supported ar e: MP3, MP4, 3GP, AAC, A MR, MIDI, IMY, EMY and WAV (16 kHz maximum sample rate). You can also use str eamed files that are 3GPP compatible. Transferring music You can transfer mu sic from your comp uter to your phone memory or Memory Stick Micr o™ (M2™).
26 To transfer files 1 Connect the USB cable to t he phone and the compute r. 2 Phone: From standby select Men u > Settings > the Connectivity tab > USB > Mass storage . 3 Computer: Wait until the phone memory and memory card appear as external disk s in Microsoft Windows Explor er.

28 PlayNow™ With PlayNow™ you can preview, buy and download music via the Interne t. You can find PlayNo w™ in Menu > PlayNow™ . TrackID™ TrackID™ is a music recognition serv ice. You can searc h for song titles, ar tists and album name s.
29 Messaging Text messages (SMS) You must have a ser vice cent re number, whic h is supplied by your service provider and saved on the SIM card. You may have to ent er the number y ourself. To write and send a text message 1 From standby select Menu > Messaging > Write new > Text message .
30 Picture messages (MMS) Picture mes sages can contain te xt, sound and images. The y are sent using MMS to a mobile phone. You n eed the correct Internet settings in your phone to use this funct ion. See Internet on page 21. To create a picture message 1 From standby selec t Menu > Messaging > Write new > Picture msg .
31 Bluetooth™ Bluetooth™ wireless technolo gy allows wire less connection to other Bluetooth devices, for example, a Bluetooth headset . You can: • connect to several device s at the same tim e.
32 To pair a dev ice with your phone 1 To search for available devices, from standby sele ct Menu > Settings > the Connectivity tab > Bluetooth > My devices > New device . 2 Select a device fr om the list. 3 Enter a passcode, if required.
33 More functions Shortcuts The shortcut menu gives you qu ick access to c ertain func tions. To open the shortcut menu • Press . Entering text There are two methods you can use to enter text: m ultitap or predictive text input. To enter text using predictive text input 1 For exam ple, write the word “Jane”, press .
34 To enter text using multitap • Press – until the characte r you want appears. • Press to add a space. • Press to e nter full stops and commas. • Press to shift between upper-case and lowe r-case letters. • Press and hold down – to enter numbers.
35 Voicemail Callers can leave a voicema il message when you cannot answer. You can get your voicemail number from your net work operator. To enter your voicemail number 1 From standby selec t Menu > Messaging > Settings > Voicemail no. 2 Scroll to th e voicem ail number and select OK .
36 SIM card lock Your PIN and PUK are supplied by your network operator. To unblock your SIM card 1 When PIN blocked is displayed, select Unlock . 2 Enter your P UK and sele ct OK . 3 Enter a new PIN and sel ect OK . 4 To confirm re-enter the new PIN and select OK .
37 Phone lock The phone l ock protects the phone ag ainst unauthor ised use. You can chang e the phone lock code (0000 by default) to any four-digit code . To turn the phone lock on 1 From standby select Menu > Settings > the General tab > Security > Locks > Phone prot ection .
38 To unlock the phone 1 From standby select Menu > Settings > the General tab > Security > Locks > Phone prot ection > View code . 2 Enter your phone lock code and select OK .
