11 Getting Started Notes • Y ou cannot enjoy a picture with an S video signal if your TV does not conform to the S video signal. When your TV does not have an S VIDEO input, connect the component via the VIDEO INPUT connector using the audio/video connecting cord (supplied) instead of the S video cor d.
12 Getting Started 5.1 Channel Surr ound Hookups W ith DVDs which contain DTS or Dolby Digital sound, you can enjoy the surround sound while pr oducing the effect of being in a movie theater or a concert hall using a digital component with a built-in DTS or Dolby Digital decoder (not supplied).

17 Playing Discs After following Step 4 x When playing a DVD A DVD menu or title menu may appear on the TV screen (see page 20). x When playing a VIDEO CD A menu may appear on the TV screen depending on the VIDEO CD. Y ou can play the disc interactively , following the instructions on the menu.
18 Playing Discs Y ou can locate a particular point on a disc at the desired speed by monitoring the picture. Note Depending on the DVD/VIDEO CD, you may not be able to do some of the operations described.
19 Playing Discs Resuming Playback fr om the Point Wher e Y ou Stopped the Disc (Resume Play) The player remembers the point wher e you stopped the disc and when “RESUME” appears on the front panel display , you can resume playback fr om that point.
20 Playing Discs When playing VIDEO CDs with PBC (Play Back Control) functions (V er . 2.0 discs), you can enjoy simple interactive operations, search functions, and other such operations. PBC Playback allows you to play VIDEO CDs interactively by following the menu on the TV screen.

If the DVD is recor ded in multiple audio formats (PCM, Dolby Digital or DTS), you can select the audio format you want while playing the DVD.

This mode cr eates 5 sets of virtual speakers surrounding the listener at a 30˚ angle of elevation.
39 Using V arious Functions with the Control Menu Checking the Play Information Y ou can check information such as the bit rate or the disc layer that is being played. While playing a disc, the approximate bit rate of the playback picture is always displayed as Mbps (Mega bit per second) and the audio as kbps (kilo bit per second).

Before setting Pr ogram Play , Shuffle Play , or Repeat Play , you must select whether to set those play modes on one disc or all of the discs.

Most settings and adjustments are r equired to be set when you first use the player .
