4 Notes on using your camera T y pes of “Memory S tick” that can be used (not supplied) The IC recording m edium used b y this camera is a “Memory Stick Duo”. The re are two types of “Memory Stick”. “Memory Stick Duo”: you can use a “Memory Stick Duo” with your camera.
5 • Do not use the camera near a location that generates strong radio waves or emits radiation. The camera may not be able to record or play back prop erly . • Using the camera in sandy or dusty locations may cause malf unctions. • If moisture condensation occurs, remove it before using the camera (page 102).

20 Changing the screen display Each time you press the (Screen display switch) button, the display changes as follows. • If you view images in bright outs ide light, adjust the brightness of the LCD backl ight up. Howe ver , the battery power may decrease faster under such condition.
21 Enjoying t he camera Number of still images and recording time of movies The tables show the approximate number of still images and the lengt h of time for movies that can be recorded on a “Memor y Stick Duo” formatted w ith this camera. The values may vary depending on the shooting conditions.
22 When you do not have a “Memor y Stick Duo” (Recording with the internal memor y) The camera has 58 MB of internal memor y . T his memory is not remova ble. Even when there is no “Memory Stick Duo” inserted in the camer a, you can record images using this internal memory .
23 Enjoying t he camera W e recomm end that you copy (b ack up) data without fail using one of the following methods. T o copy (back up) data on a “Memory Stick Duo” Prepare a “Memory Stick D uo” with a capacity of 64 MB or more, then perfor m the procedure explained in [ Copy] (p age 54).

60 Copying images to your computer This section describes the process using a W indows computer as an e xample. Y ou can copy images from the camera to your computer as follows. For a computer with a “Memory Stick” slot Remove the “Memory Stick Duo” from the camera and insert it in the Memory Stick Duo Adaptor .
61 Using your computer 4 Click the radio button next to [Y es, I want to restar t my computer now] to select it, then clic k [Finish]. Y our computer restarts. No w , you can establish a USB connection. Remov e the CD-ROM when the installation is completed.

65 Using your computer • When an image with the same file name exists in the copy destina tion folder, the overwrite conf irmation message appears. When you ove rwrite an existing im age with a new one, the original file data is deleted.
66 x For Windows 98/98SE Confirm that the ac cess indic ators (pag e 62) are white. If the access indica tors have turned whit e, the device is d isconnec ted from a computer. The image files record ed with your camera are grouped as folders on the “Memor y Stick Duo”.

69 Using your computer 5 Remove the CD-ROM as the shortcut icon s of “PictureP ackage Menu ” and “PicturePac kage destination Folder” are displayed after the installation. T o start up the software • Double-click the “PicturePackage Menu” icon on the desktop.

73 Printing sti ll images Printing st ill images How to print still images When you print images shot in [16:9(HDTV)] mode, both ed ges may be cu t off, so be sure to check before printing (page 91).
74 Printing images directly using a PictBridge compliant printer Even if you do not ha ve a computer , you can print images shot using your camera by connecting the camera directly to a PictBridge compliant printer . • “PictBridge” is based on the CIP A standard.
75 Printing sti ll images Connect the multi connector on your camera and the USB jack on the printer with the supplied cable for multi-use terminal. • Set the switch on the supplied cable for multi- use terminal to “CAM ERA”. Turn on your camera and the printer.
76 [This image] Prints a displayed image. • If you select [This image] and set [Index] to [On] in step 2, you can print a set of the same images as an index im age. 2 Select print settings with v / V / b / B . [Index] Select [On] to print as an index image.
77 Printing sti ll images [Select] Selects i mages and pr ints all t he select ed images. Select the im age you w ant to print wi th v / V / b / B , then pres s z to display the mark. (Repe at this proced ure to select other images .) Then, pres s MENU.
78 Printing at a shop Y ou can take a “Memory Stick Duo” containing images shot with your camera to a photo printing service shop. As long as the shop supports ph oto printing services conforming to the DPOF, you can make a (Print order) mark on images in adva nce so that you do not need to reselect them when you print them out at the shop.

81 Connectin g your camer a to your TV On TV color systems If you want to vie w images on a TV screen, you need a TV with a video input jack and the cable for multi-use te rminal (supplied). The color system of the TV must match that of your digital still came ra.
82 T r oubleshoot ing T roubleshooting If you experi ence trouble with your camera, try the following solutions. Please understand that you gi ve your consent that the contents of the internal memory , Music files may be checked when you se nd your camera to be repaired.
83 T r oubleshooti ng The battery pack cannot be instal led. • As you inse rt the bat tery pack, u se the tip of the batter y pack to push the ba ttery eject lever tow ard the lens ( t step 1 in “R ead This F irst” ). • Install the ba ttery pac k correctly ( t step 1 in “Read This F irst” ).
84 Y our cam era cannot record images. • Check the fr ee capacity o f the inter nal memory or “Memory Stic k Duo” (pages 21, 22) . If it is full, do one of th e follo wing: – Delete unnece ssary image s ( t step 6 in “Rea d This F ir st” ).
85 T r oubleshooti ng Smart zoom does not fu nction. • Set [Digit al Zoom] to [Smart] (page 48). • This funct ion cannot be used when: – The image size is set to [6M] or [ 3:2]. – Shooting in Mul ti Burst mode. – Shooting movies. The flash does not work.
86 The image is too brigh t. • Y ou are shoo ting a spot lighted subj ect in a da rk locati on such as on a stage. Adj ust the exposu re (page 33). • The brightne ss of the sc reen is too brig ht. Adjust th e brightnes s of the LCD ba cklight selectin g other than “up” (p age 20).
87 T r oubleshooti ng The image appears rough right after playbac k star ts. • The image may a ppear rough r ight after pl ayback start s due to image p rocessing.
88 Y ou d o not know if the OS of your co mputer is compatible with the camera. • Check “Rec ommended computer en vironment” on page 59 for W indo ws, an d page 70 f or Macintosh. Y ou can not install the USB driver . • In Windo ws 2000, log on as Admin istrator (aut horized Admi nistrators ) (page 60).
89 T r oubleshooti ng Y ou cannot copy images. • Connect the camera and yo ur computer correctly us ing the suppli ed cable fo r multi-use terminal (page 6 2).
90 Cannot record on a “Memory Stick Duo”. • Y ou are usin g the “Memory Stick Duo” with the writ e-protect sw itch, and the switch i s set to the LOCK p osition. Se t the swit ch to the r ecording po sition (p age 97). • The “Memor y Stick Duo” is full.
91 T r oubleshooti ng Cannot copy the data on the “Memory Stick Duo” or the compu ter to the internal memory . • Data on a “Me mory Stick D uo” or a co mputer cannot be copied t o the intern al memory . Also see “PictBridge compliant printer” (as fo llows) in conjunction with the following items.
92 Printing is canceled. • Y ou disconne cted the ca ble for mul ti-use termi nal before the ( Do not disc onnect ca ble for multi-use te rminal) mark disapp ears. Cannot inser t the date or print imag es in the index mode . • The print er does not provide these functions.
93 T r oubleshooti ng Y ou r camera does not work. • Use the typ e of battery pack you c an use with th is camera (page 99). • The battery le vel is lo w (The E in dicator app ears). Char ge the batt ery pack ( t step 1 in “Read This F irst” ).
94 W arning indicators and messages If a code starting with a lette r of the alphabet appears, your camera has a self- diagnosis display . The last two digits (indicated by ss ) will dif fer depending on the state of the camera.
95 T r oubleshooti ng Memory Stick loc ked • Y ou a re using t he “Memory Stic k Duo” with the wri te-protect sw itch, and the switch is set to the LOCK posit ion.

97 Others Others On the “Memor y Stick” A “Memory Stick” is a c ompact, portable IC record ing medium. Th e types of “Memory Stick” that ca n be used with this camera are listed in the table below . Howe ver , proper operation cannot be guaranteed for all “Memory Stick” functions.

99 Others On the “InfoLITHIUM” batter y pack This camera requir es an “InfoLITHIUM ” battery pack (T type). What is an “InfoLITHIUM” battery pack? An “InfoLITHIUM” battery pack is a lithium-ion battery pack tha t has functions for exc hanging in fo rmation related to operating conditions with your camera.
100 On the batter y charger x On the battery charger • Do not charge any other battery pack except Sony “InfoLITHIUM” battery packs in the battery charger supplied with your camera. Batteries other than the specified kind may leak, overheat, or explode if you attempt to charge them, posing a risk of injur y from electroc ution and burns.
101 Others On the Cyber -shot Station The Cyber-shot Station (not supplied) lets you easily charge th e camera. Simply set the camera in the Cyber-shot Station and charging starts automatically . While charging the battery , you can check the battery lev el with the CHARGE lamps of the Cyber-shot Statio n.
102 Precautions x Do not leave the camera in the following places • In an extremely hot pl ace In places such as in a car parked in the sun, the camera body may become deformed and thi s may cause a malfunction . • Under direct sunlight or near a heater The camera body may become di scolored or deformed, and this may cause a malf unction.
103 Others x On the internal rechargeable battery This camera has an internal rec hargeable batt ery for maintaining the date and time and other settings regardless of whether the power is on or off. This rechar geable battery is continual ly charged as long as you are usi ng the camera.
