29 Shoot ing stil l ima g e s About Aut o Focus When yo u try to shoot a subj ect that is ha rd to focu s on, the AE/AF loc k indica tor wil l change to fla sh in g slowly and th e A E lock beep do es not sound (except in Continuous AF, page 66). The Auto Foc us function m ay be difficult to use with in the f ollowin g subject s.
30 Indicators on the screen during shooting Each ti me you press (scr een st atus), the display c hanges in the followi ng order . • The status of t he screen changes between indicators-on and indicators-off when playing back or s hooting movies. • For a detailed description of the indicators, see page 150.
31 Shoot ing stil l ima g e s Digital zoom Enlarge s the image using digi tal processing. Pressing (di gi ta l zoom ) activates th e dig it al zoo m. Ther e ar e two mo des in the digi t a l zoom func ti on. One is “Pr ec ision digi tal zoom ” and t he o ther is “Smart zoom.

66 Flexible Spo t AF ( ) This is use ful w hen fo cusing on an extre mel y small subject or a nar ro w ar ea. Flexible Spot AF lets you shoot in t he desired im ag e co mposition. Th is is useful when you shoo t using a tripod a nd th e subje ct is out of th e center area.

68 • The focus distance in formation indicator is approximate, and should be used as a reference. • The focus distance i nformation indicator does not appear when using the Ni ghtShot function.
69 Advance d still imag e shooti ng • Attaching the supplied lens hood blocks a flash light. • Because the shutter speed is s lower under dark conditions when (Slow synchro) or ( No flash) is selected, it is recommended that you use a tripod. • While the flash is being charged, the l amp flashes.
70 Sh oo ti ng t ec h n i ques Making the best of the flash gives you various options. When you set the flash mode to (Forced flash), you can shoot a back- lit subject brightly . An effect in which the fl ash light reflect s in the subject’ s eye is also avail able.
