12 Hookups and Settings Overvi ew Complete the followin g steps to start using this DVD recorde r/home the atre sy stem. Steps 1 t o 4 are for th e speaker system ; steps 5 and 6 for the rec order . After fini shin g all of the hookups, conne ct the mains leads in step 7, and start set ting up t he system in “Step 8: Init ial Setup.

15 Hookup s and Settings A Wiring the sp eakers Connect the supplie d speakers to the SPEAK ER jacks on th e bot tom side of t he sub woofe r using the spea ker co rds. Use the sp eaker cord whose tube is th e same colour as t he jack la bel on th e connectin g speaker.
16 Positioning th e speakers For the best pos sible sur round so und, all t he spea kers o ther th an the subwo ofer s hould be th e same dist ance from the l ist enin g po sit ion ( A ). How ever, thi s system allows yo u to place t he centre unit up to 1.
17 Hookup s and Settings Notes • Us e screws th at are suit able for the wall mater ial and stren gth. As a plas ter board wa ll is especia lly fragil e, attach the screws secu rely to a beam and fas ten the m to the wa ll. Inst all the spe akers on a ver tical , flat wall where reinfo rcement is ap plied.
18 Ste p 4: Conne cti ng the Sp eake r Syst em an d Record er Connect the DVD (DI GITAL IN OPTICAL) jack of t he subwoofer t o the DIGITAL OUT (OPTICAL) jack of the record er using the supplie d optica l digital c ord.
19 Hookup s and Settings Step 5 : Conn ectin g the TV Aerial Connect the TV ae rial cab le followin g the ste ps below. Do not connect th e mains le ad until yo u reach “Step 7: Connecti ng the Mains Leads” (p age 23). 1 Disco nnect the TV aerial cable fr om your TV an d connect it to AER IAL IN on the rear pan el of the reco rder.

S elect one of fo llow ing p atte rns A thro ugh D acco rding t o the input jac k on your TV m onitor o r project or. Note Do not connect m ore than one type of vide o cord between th e recorder and your T V at the same time.
21 Hookup s and Settings A Connecting to a SCART input jack Conn ect usi ng a S C ART co rd (not supp lied) to t he LINE 1-TV jack and yo ur TV. Be su re of a firm connec tion to avoid hum and no ise. See the operating instr uctions supplied with the TV to be connecte d.
22 Connecting the audi o cords If you us e your TV ’s speak ers for list ening to s ound, conne ct the LIN E 2 OUT jac ks of the rec order to the audio i nput jack s of your TV. z Hint You can connect an AV amplifier to the DIGITAL OUT (COAXIAL ) jack.
23 Hookup s and Settings Step 7 : Conn ecting t he Mains Le ads Plug t he reco rder, subwoofe r, and TV mai ns leads (power co rds) into the mai ns. Chec k that the " / 1 in dica tor o n the c entr e un it lights up when the su bwoofer ma ins lead is conn ected.
24 Conne cting the Re cord er to Ot her Equi pment Connect other equipment ( VCR, satelli te tuner, P AY-TV decoder, e tc.) to the LINE I N jacks of the reco rder. Disconnect th e recorder’s mai ns lead from the mains when connecting them. Use the DV IN ja ck o n the fro nt panel if the equipment has a DV o utput jack (i.
25 Hookup s and Settings To conne ct to the LI NE 2 IN or LINE 4 IN ja cks Connect a VCR or simi la r re cording devi ce to the LINE 2 IN or LINE 4 IN ja cks of this recorder. If you are conn ecting to the LINE 2 IN jacks and the equipm ent has an S-video jack, you ca n use an S-v ideo cord instead of a video co rd.
26 Connecting to a sat ellite or digital tune r Connect a sat ellite o r digital tuner to this re corder using the LINE 3/DECODER jack. Disc onnect t he reco rder’s m ains le ad from th e main s when co nnecting the tune r. z Hint You do not need to turn on the recorder to view th e signals from t he connect ed tun er on you r TV.

44 Rec Mode Adjust If ther e is not enou gh ava ilable disc space fo r the reco rding, th e record er auto matical ly select s the reco rding mod e tha t will reco rd the en tire programme. To us e this function, s elect [AT] fo r the reco rding mode and set [ P DC/VPS] to [ Off].
