5 Rotary commander Note The supplied rotary commander should be used with this player only . Getting started Using the hand strap T o carry during strenuous activity , use the supplied hand strap. 1 Pass the hand strap through the strap holes of the player .

9 Playback options Y ou can enjoy various w ays of playback using PLA Y MODE and REPEA T/ENTER. PLA Y MODE button Each time you press the b utton, you can change the playback mode.
10 Playing tracks repeatedly (Repeat play) Y ou can play tracks repeatedly in normal, single, shuffle and PGM play modes. During playback, press REPEA T/ENTER. Playing a single track (Single play) During playback, press PLA Y MODE repeatedly until “ 1 ” appears.

12 Emphasizing the bass sound (SOUND) Y ou can emphasize the bass-boosted sound. Press SOUND to select “ BASS ” or “ BASS . ” “ BASS ” enhances the bass sound more than “ B ASS . ” Note If the sound is distorted when using the SOUND function, turn down the v olume.
13 Protecting your hearing (A VLS) The A VLS (Automatic V olume Limiter System) function keeps down the maxim um volume to protect your hearing. Press and hold SOUND until “ A VLS ” appears in the display . When you turn up the volume to “ ” “ A VLS ” flashes and you cannot turn up the volume an y more.
14 T ur ning off the operation beep sound Y ou can turn off the beep sound that is heard from your headphones/earphones when you operate your CD player . 1 Remove the power source (AC power adaptor , rechargeable batteries or dry batteries) from the CD player .
15 Connecting a stereo system Y ou can listen to CDs through a stereo system and record CDs on a cassette tape. For details, see the instruction manual that comes with the connected device. Be sure to turn off all connected de vices before making connections.

17 Installing in a car Replacing the fuse of the car batter y cor d If the CD player does not operate, check the fuse. If it is blown, replace it as follo ws: 1 T urn off the CD player and remove the cigarette lighter plug from the cigarette lighter socket.
18 Mounting the rotary commander If you use the supplied rotary commander , you can control your CD player as you would control the headlight or the wiper switch of your car while driving. Attach the rotary commander to a flat place as illustrated below .
19 Y ou can use the following po wer sources: • A C power adaptor • Rechargeable batteries • LR6 (size AA) alkaline batteries For the battery life and char ging time of the rechargeable batteries, see “ Specif ications. ” Using the AC power adaptor Connect the supplied AC po wer adaptor to the DC IN 4.
20 T o remove the rechargeable batteries Remov e the batteries as illustrated below . When to charge the rechargeable batteries Y ou can check the remaining power of the batteries in the display . Battery power is full. Battery power is getting lo w .
21 Using the dry batteries Use only the following dr y battery type for your CD player: • LR6 (size AA) alkaline batteries Note Be sure to remov e the A C power adaptor when using the dry batteries. 1 Open the battery compartment lid. 2 Insert two LR6 (size AA) batteries by matching the 3 to the diagram in the battery compartment.
22 Notes on the power source Disconnect all power sources when the CD player is not used. On AC power adaptor • Use only the AC power adaptor supplied or recommended in “ Accessories (supplied/ optional). ” Do not use any other AC po wer adaptor .
23 Precautions On safety • Should any solid objects or liquid fall into the CD player , unplug it and hav e it checked by qualified personnel befor e operating it any further . • Do not put any foreign objects in the DC IN 4.5 V (e xternal power input) jack.
24 T roubleshooting Should any problem persist after you ha ve checked these symptoms, consult your nearest Son y dealer . Symptom The volume does not increase even if you press the VOLUME + button rep e atedly. Cannot adjust the volume. No sound, or noise is heard.
25 Symptom The CD player does not start charging. Playback starts from the point you stopped. (resume function) Rustling noise is heard from the CD. When closing the lid of the CD player , the CD starts to rotate. Y ou cannot operate the CD player properly using the rotary commander .
