6 1 . Connect your CD player . 1 Connect the AC po wer adaptor . 2 Connect the headphones/earphones. 2 . Insert a CD. 1 Unfasten the buckle . 2 Open the lid. 3 Fit the CD on the piv ot and close the lid. 4 While holding the lid closed, fasten the b uckle securely .
7 T o Do this Play (from the point you stopped) Push the 3-way control ke y towar d N / > . Playback starts from the point you stopped. Play (from the first track) Push the control key to w ard N / > and hold it for 2 seconds or more. Stop Press x /CHG.
8 About the display • When you push the 3-way control key to ward N / > after changing the CD or turning off and on the player , the total number of tracks in the CD and total playing time appear for about two seconds. • While a track on the audio CD is playing, the track number and the elapsed playing time of the current track appear .
9 Playing a CD with MP3 files Prepare the CD player and the CD in the same way as for an audio CD. (See “ About MP3. ” ) Push the 3-way contr ol key to ward N / > . The CD player plays all MP3 files on the CD. T o select a folder Use FOLDER + to go forward and FOLDER – to go backward.
10 Example of folder structure and playing or der The playing order of folders and files is as follo ws: File mode Plays all MP3 files from 1 , 2 , 3 ... 9 , 0 . Folder mode Plays all MP3 files in the selected folder . (Example: If you select folder 3, the CD player plays file 4 .
11 Playback options Y ou can enjoy various playback options using PLA Y MODE and REPEA T/ENTER. PLA Y MODE button Each time you press the b utton, you can change the playback mode. 3-way control key ( N / > , . ) REPEA T/ENTER button REPEA T Y ou can repeat play mode that was selected using PLA Y MODE.
12 Playing tracks r epeatedly (Repeat play) Y ou can play tracks ( “ files ” when playing an MP3 CD) repeatedly in normal, (MP3 CD only), single, shuf fle, shuf fle (MP3 CD only) and PGM play modes.
13 Playing tracks in random order (Shuffle pla y) During playbac k, press PLA Y MODE repeatedly until “ SHUF ” appears. When playing MP3 files In shuffle mode, the CD player plays all f iles (up to 255 files) on a CD in random order .
14 Playing tracks in your favorite order (PGM pla y) Y ou can program the CD player to play up to 32 tracks (“files” when playing an MP3 CD) in your fav orite order . 1 During playbac k, press PLA Y MODE repeatedly until “PGM” appears. 2 Push the 3-way contr ol ke y to war d N / > or .
15 T o check the program During programming: Press REPEA T/ENTER repeatedly before step 5. During PGM play: Press PLA Y MODE repeatedly until “ PGM ” flashes, then press REPEA T/ENTER.
16 B Available featur es G-PROTECTION function The G-PR O TECTION function has been dev eloped to provide excellent protection against sound skipping during many acti ve uses. When you set the G-PRO TECTION switch on your CD player to “ 2 ” , the G- PR O TECTION function will be enhanced compared to “ 1.
17 Available features Checking the time remaining on the CD and the number of tracks left Y ou can check the time remaining on the audio CD and the number of tracks left using DISPLA Y . Press DISPLA Y . Each time you press the button, the display changes as follows: Normal play Press DISPLA Y once.
18 Emphasizing the bass sound (SOUND) Y ou can emphasize the bass-boosted sound. Press SOUND to select “ B ASS ” or “ BASS . ” “ BASS ” enhances the bass sound more than “ B ASS . ” Note If the sound is distorted when using the SOUND function, turn down the v olume.
19 Protecting your hearing (A VLS) The A VLS (Automatic V olume Limiter System) function keeps down the maxim um volume to protect your hearing. Hold down SOUND until “ A VLS ” appears in the displa y . T o turn off the A VLS function Hold down SOUND until “ A VLS ” disappears from the display .
20 Tu r n i ng of f the operation beep sound Y ou can turn off the beep sound that is heard from your headphones/earphones when you operate your CD player . 1 Remove the power sour ce (AC power adaptor , rechargeable batteries or dry batteries) from the CD play er .
21 Notes • Before you play a CD, turn down the volume of the connected device to a void damaging the connected speakers. • Use the AC power adaptor for r ecording. If you use the rechar geable batteries or dry batteries as a power source, batteries may become completely depleted during recording.

24 Using the dry batteries Use only the following dr y battery type for your CD player: • LR6 (size AA) alkaline batteries Note Be sure to remov e the A C power ada ptor when using the dry batteries. 1 Open the battery compartment lid. 2 Insert two LR6 (size AA) batteries by matching the 3 to the diagram in the battery compartment.
25 Precautions On safety • Should any solid objects or liquid fall into the CD player , unplug it and hav e it checked by qualified personnel befor e operating it any further . • Do not put any foreign objects in the DC IN 4.5 V (e xternal power input) jack.
26 Precautions • The supplied headphones are not meant to be immersed in water or come in continuous contact with water . If they are accidentally dropped into water or get wet, dry them with a soft cloth. Nev er use an electric hair dryer . • The supplied A C power adaptor is not water resistant.
27 T roubleshooting Should any problem persist after you ha ve c hecked these symptoms, consult your nearest Sony dealer . Symptom The volume does not increase even if the VOL control is adjusted to the maximum level. No sound, or noise is heard. The playing time is too short when powered with the dry batteries.
28 T roubleshooting Symptom The CD player does not start charging. Playback starts from the point you stopped. (resume function) Rustling noise is heard from the CD. When using with a connected stereo system, the sound is distorted or noisy . During playback of an MP3 CD, the CD does not rotate but you can hear the sound normally .
