8 Notes on using the camera [ I ntern al memor y and “Memor y Stick Duo” media back up Do not turn off the camera , remove the battery pack, or remove the “Memory S tick Duo” me dia while the access lam p is lit. Ot herwise, the internal memory data or “Memory Stick Duo” media may be damaged.

10 1 Preparing the bat tery pack 1 Insert the battery pack into th e battery ch arger. 2 Connect th e battery charger to the wall outlet (wall socket). The CHARGE lamp lights up, and charging starts. When the CHARGE lamp turns off, charging is finished (Normal charge).
11 2 Inserting the bat tery pack/a “Memory Stick Duo” media (sold separately) 1 Open the battery/“Memory Stick Duo” media cover. 2 Insert the “Memor y Stick Duo” m edia (sold separatel y). 3 Insert the battery pack. 4 Close the battery/“Memory Stick Duo” media cover.

17 Detecting smiles and shooting automatically (Smile Sh utter) Whe n the ca mer a de tect s a sm ile, th e sh utte r is re leas ed au toma tica lly. 1 Sel ect (Smile S hutter) mode on the mode dial . 2 Aim the camera at the subject and press the shutter button halfway down to focus.
18 Detecting the shooting condi tions (Scene Recognition) The cam era autom aticall y detects the shoo ting condi tions, an d then tak es the shot. 1 Select (Auto Adjustment) mode on the mode dial . 2 Press MENU butto n (pages 2 4, 25). 3 Select (Scene Recognition) with v / V on the control butt on.
19 Viewin g/del eting im ages 1 Press (Playback). If you press when the camera is powered off, the camera is turned on automatically and set to playback mode. To switch to the shooting m ode, press again. 2 Select an image with b / B on the contr ol button .
20 [ To view an i ndex scree n Press (Index) while a single image is di splayed. Then, sele ct an image with v / V / b / B . To return to the single image screen, press z . • Each time you press (Index), the number of images on the index scr een increases.
21 [ To view i mages on TV Connect the c amera t o the TV wit h the cable for multi -use te rminal (suppl ied). To view on H D (High De finitio n) TV, an HD Output Ad aptor Cab le (sold sepa rately) is need ed. • If you set the image size to [16:9], you can record images in the size that fills the entire screen of the HD TV.

31 Number of still images and recordable time of movies The numbe r of still images an d the length of t ime for movi es may vary depending on the shooting c onditions. • Even if the capac ity of your recordin g media is the same as the one in the table belo w, the number of still images and the len gth of time for movies may be diffe rent.
32 Trouble shoo ting If you ex perience t rouble wit h the cam era, try the foll owing solut ions. Be aw are tha t by send ing the cam era for repa ir, you give co nsent th at the conte nts of the inter nal memor y, musi c files may be ch ecked . Cannot insert the battery pack.
33 The remaining charge indicator is incorrect. • Th is phenome non occurs whe n you use the camera in an extrem ely hot or cold loca tion. • A d iscrepancy arose bet ween the r emaining c harge indi cator an d the actua l remai ning batte ry charge.
34 Vertical streaks appear w hen you are shooting a very bright subject. • The smea r pheno menon i s occurring and white, bl ack, red, purple , or oth er str eaks appear on the image. Th is phenome non is not a malf unction. The same i mage is shot several times.
