15 Removing / replacing the hard disk Addition al info rmation The following sect ion explains how to remove and replace the hard disk. Notices • Depending on th e type of service performed, the hard disk that had been in use prior to servicing may need to be reformatted.
16 Removing / replacing the hard disk 5 Free the hard disk from the system. 1 Remove t he blue s crew with the corr ect sized crosshead screwdriver . 2 Pull th e handle f orward . 6 Remove the h ard disk from the system. Pull t he h andle furt her to remov e th e hard disk from the system.
17 Reinstalling the system software Addition al info rmation 2 Remove the hard disk from the metal frame. 3 Place the replacement hard disk on the PS3™ system hard disk's metal frame, and then attach using the screws (4 places). Do not overtighte n the screws.
18 Reinstalling the system software Save the dow nloaded updat e data on any of the foll owing types of stora ge media. x Disc media s uch as a C D-R CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW and BD-RE are supported. x USB mas s storag e device Storage media such as a USB flash drive are suppor ted.
