4 Prepare the ba ttery pack • Connect the battery charger to an easily accessible wall outlet (wall socket) close by. • Even if the CHARGE lamp is not lit, the battery charger is not disconnected from the AC power source (mains) as long as it is connected t o the wall outlet (wall socket).
5 Not e on the batt ery pack Use only an NP -FM55H batt ery pack. Not e that the NP-FM5 0 and NP-FM30 cannot be used. Usi ng the AC Adapt or/ch arger You can connec t the camera to a wall ou tlet ( wall socke t) usin g the AC -VQ900AM AC Ad aptor/cha rger (not supplied) .
6 Attaching a lens 1 Remove the bod y cap from the camera and the rear cap from the lens. • Do not leave the interior of the camera exposed to dust or water droplet, and do not touch or damage the interior. 2 Attach the lens. • When attaching a lens, do not press the lens release button.
7 To re move the l ens Press the le ns release button all the way in and tur n the lens countercl ockwise until it stops. • Replace th e cap on the lens and attach the b ody cap (or another lens) to the camera after removing th e lens.
8 Turn the camera on/set the clock 1 Set th e POWE R switch to ON by sliding it in the direction of the arrow. 2 Set the clock with the cont roller. 1 Select [Yes], th en press the cent er of t he contro ller. • If you set the clock later, select [No] with B , then pr ess the center of the controller.
9 To chang e the date and time Sele ct [Dat e/Tim e set] in the Set up men u and per form th e proce dure in step 2 -2 to -4. t “User’s Guide/ Troubleshooting ” (page 99) When t urning on the p ower • Unless you set the clock, “Set date and time?” a p pears each time the camera is turned on.
10 Insert a recording medium (not supplied) Available recording medium for the camera You can use a “Memory S tick Duo” , Compact Flash ca rd (CF card), or Microd rive as a record ing medium. • Before using a recording medium, be sure to fo rmat it using this camer a.
11 Note on the Memory Stick Duo Adaptor for CompactFlash slot To remove the recording medium CompactFlash/Microdrive We have checked the operations, however , we cannot guarantee proper operation of all CF cards/Microdrives. • The Microdrive is a compact and lightweight hard disk driv e that comp lies with Compa ctFlash Type II standards.
12 Shoot images easily (Auto adjustment mode) The main functions of the camera are adjuste d automatically in auto adjustment mode. Using this mode, you can shoot easily, depending entirely on the cam era. However, you can change any of the settings except [Color/DEC].

17 AF illuminator Whe n you press th e shu tter b utto n half way down w ith the buil t-in f lash pulle d up in dark surroundi ngs, the fl ash may be tr iggered. Th is is an AF i lluminator a llowing the c amera to focus more easily on a subject. • T he range of the AF illumin ator is approx imately 1 to 5 m (39 3/8 t o 196 7/8 inches).
