About this Document This manual is intended for admini strators and users of the AXIS M1143–L Ne twork Camera, and is applicable to fi rmware 5.40 and later. It includes instru ctions fo r using and managing the product on your network. Previous experience of networking will be of use when using this product.

AXIS M1 143–L A ccessing the P r oduct Accessing the Product To install the Axis product, refer to the Installation Guide supplied with the product. The product can be used with most operating systems and browsers. The recommended brow sers are Internet Explorer w ith Windows, Safari with Macintosh and Fire fox with other operating s ystems.
AXIS M1 143–L A ccessing the P r oduct Access from the Internet Once connected, the Axis product is accessible on your local net work (LAN). To access the product from the Internet you must con fi gure your network router to allow incoming data traf fi c to the product.

Consequently, some of t he examples and functi ons featured here may dif fer from those displ ayed in your own Li ve View page.
AXIS M1 143–L A ccessing the P r oduct Note These controls are available if digital PTZ is enabled in the selected view are a, see View Area on page 17 . Click the Emulate joystick mode button and click in the image to move the camera view in the direction of the mouse pointer.
AXIS M1 143–L Media St r eams Media St reams The Axis product provides severa l video stream f ormats. Your re quirements and the properties of y our network will determine the type you use. The Live View page in the prod uct provides access to H.264 and M otion JPEG video stream s, and to the list of available stream pro fi les.

AXIS M1 143–L Media St r eams Note • <ip>= IP addess • The Axis product supports QuickTim e 6.5.1 and later. • QuickTime adds latency to the video stream. • It may be possible to use other players to view the H.264 stre am using the paths above, although A xis does not guarantee this.
AXIS M1 143–L Setting Up the P r oduct Setting Up the Product The Axis product can be con fi g ured by users w ith administrator or operator r ig hts. To open the product’s Setup pages, click Setup in the top right-hand corner of the Live View page.

AXIS M1 143–L Setting Up the P r oduct Image The default image settings can be con fi gured under Video> Video Stream . Select the Image tab. The following settings are available : • Resolution . Select the default resolution. • Compression .
AXIS M1 143–L Setting Up the P r oduct Four pre-programmed stream pro fi les are availab le for quick set up. Each pre-program med pro fi le ha s a descriptive name, indicating its purpose. If required, the pre-programmed stream pro fi les c an be mo di fi ed and new customized stream pro fi le s can be crea ted.
AXIS M1 143–L Setting Up the P r oduct View Area A view area is a cropped par t of the full view. The view area is treate d as a video source in Live View and has its own vi deo stream and PTZ se ttings. When setting up a view area it is recommende d that the video stream re solution is the same size as or smaller than the view area size.
AXIS M1 143–L Setting Up the P r oduct To use an overlay image, the image must fi rst be uploaded to the Axis product: 1. Go to Video > Overlay I mage . 2. Click Browse a n db r o w s et ot h e fi le. 3. Click Upload . 4. Select the image to use from the Use overlay image list.

AXIS M1 143–L PTZ (P an Tilt Z oom) PTZ (Pan Tilt Zoom) The PTZ menu is available if digita l PTZ (pan, tilt and zoom) is enabl ed in the selected view area.

To modify or remove guard tours, go to P T Z>G u a r dT o u r , select the guard tour in the Guard Tour List and click Modify/Remove .
AXIS M1 143–L Detector s Detectors Camera Tampering Camera Tamper ing can generate an al arm whenever the came ra is repositioned, or when the lens is covered, sprayed or severely defocused. To send an alarm, for example an email, an action rule must be set up.
AXIS M1 143–L Detector s Note Using the motion detection feature may dec rease the product’s overall performance. Set Up Motion Detection Windows To set up a motion detection Include W indow, follow these instructions: 1. Go to Detectors > Motion Detection .
AXIS M1 143–L Detector s Low level (0%) Even very small objects trigger motion detection. An object that appears in the window triggers motion detection only for a very short time before it is conside red as non-moving. Only very bright objects on a dark background trigger motion detection.
AXIS M1 143–L Ev e n t s Events The Axis product can be con fi gured to perfo rm actions when different e vents occur, for example, start a recording wh en motion is detected. The set of conditions that de fi nes how and when the action is triggered is called an Action R ule .
AXIS M1 143–L Ev e n t s - Recurrence — trigger the rule periodically, see Recurrences on page 29 . This can for example be used to upload an image every 5 minutes. - Use Schedule — trigger the rule according to the selected sc hedule, see Schedules on page 29 .

AXIS M1 143–L Ev e n t s 1. Go to Events > Recurrences and click Add . 2. Enter a descriptive na me and recurrence p attern. 3. Click OK . To use the recurrence in an Action Rule, fi rst select Tim e from the Trigger drop-down list in the Action Rule Setup page and then select the rec urrence from the second drop-down list.

AXIS M1 143–L Re c o rd i n gs Note If a new stream pro fi le is selected while a recording is ongoing, the reco rding will be stopped and saved in the recording list and a new recording with the new stream pro fi le w ill start.
AXIS M1 143–L System Options System Options Security Users User access control is enabled by default and can be con fi gured under System Options > Security > Users . An administrator can set up other users by gi ving them user names and pas swords.
AXIS M1 143–L System Options HTTPS HTTPS (HyperText Tra nsfer Protocol over Se cure Socket Layer, o r HTTP over SSL) is a web protocol providing encrypted browsing. HTTPS can also be used by users and clients to verify that the corr ect device is being accessed.
AXIS M1 143–L System Options Certi fi cates CA Certi fi cate The CA certi fi ca te is used to validate the identity of the a uthentication server. Enter the path to the certi fi cate directly, or locate the fi le using the Browse button. Then click Upload .
AXIS M1 143–L System Options CA certi fi cat es - to authenticate peer certi fi cates, for example the certi fi cate of an authenticatio n server in case the Axis product is connected to an IEEE 802.
AXIS M1 143–L System Options Networ k Basic TCP/IP Settings The Axis product supports IP version 4 and IP version 6. Both versions can be enabled simultaneo usly, and at least one version must always be enabled. Network Interface Mode The network interface to the AXIS product can be wired or wireless .
AXIS M1 143–L System Options AXIS Internet Dynamic DNS Service AXIS Internet Dynamic DNS Service assigns a host nam e for easy ac cess to the product. For more info rmation, see www.axisca m.net To register the Axis prod uct with AXIS Inte rnet Dynamic DNS Service , go to System Options > Network > TCP/IP > Basic .
AXIS M1 143–L System Options HTTPS The HTTPS port used by the Axis product can be changed under System Options > Network > TCP/IP > Advanced . In addition to the default setting, which is 443, any port in the range 1024–65535 can be used.
AXIS M1 143–L System Options SOCKS SOCKS is a networking proxy protocol. The Axis product can be con fi gured to use a SOCKS server to reach networks on the other side of a fi rewall or proxy server.
AXIS M1 143–L System Options Note The initial password can only be set once. I f the password is lost, the Axis product must be reset to factory default, see Reset to Factory Default Settings on page 44 . UPnP TM The Axis product includes supp ort for UPnP TM .
AXIS M1 143–L System Options 3. The card can now be removed. The SD card is managed on the System O ptions > Storage pag e. Click SD Card to o pen Storage Management . If the card’s status shows as failed, click Check disk to see if the problem can be found and then try Repair .
AXIS M1 143–L System Options • the boot protocol (DHCP or static) • the static IP address • the default router • the sub net mask •t h e s y s t e m t i m e • the IEEE 802.1X settings • the focus position Click Default to reset all settings, including the IP address, to the factory default values.
AXIS M1 143–L System Options The log levels for the System Log and the Access Log are set under System Options > Support > Logs & Reports > Con fi guration . The Access Log can be con fi gured to l ist all connections to the product (select Cri tica l, Warnings & Info).
AXIS M1 143–L T r oubleshooting Troubleshooting Checking the Firmware Firmware is s oftware that determ ines the func tionality of network devices. One of your fi rst actions when tro ubleshooting a problem should be to check the curr ent fi rmware version.
