Data Availability on the Cubicle BUS All modules connected t o the Cubicle BUS can request data from o ther modules via the bus and generate data themselves that can be read b y other modules. Each data point in the comprehensiv e WL Circuit Break er data dictionar y can only be generated by a sing le module—the data source.

Communication-capable Circuit Break ers The write-pr otect function ensur es that all the requir ed information can be transmitt ed, but prev ents any changes to the status of the circuit break er .
Three micr oswitches located in the C OM16 module can determine the position of a drawout cir cuit breaker in the guide frame, which is then communicated via the C OM16 module.
Communication-capable Circuit Break ers Breaker S t atus Sensor (BSS) BSS stands f or "break er status sensor ." All microswitches that contain information on the state of the circuit br eaker ar e either installed directly to the BS S or connected t o it.
The integrat ed metering function can be used with all trip units with a Cubicle BUS connection. It not only ext ends the range of pro tection functions of the trip unit but also pro vides additional warnings and diagnostic options.
Communication-capable Circuit Break ers Metering F unction Plus The Met ering Function Plus module extends the range of me tering functions to include harmonic and wav eform analysis. Harmonic analysis The Met ering Function Plus module senses the current and voltage, sa ves the measured values, and carries out a fast Fourier transf ormation.

The generat ion of the events can be delay ed to prev ent transient conditions from “chattering”.
2/18 WL MODBUS Communication and Electronic Accessories • January 2005 Communication-capable Circuit Break ers WL Circuit Br eaker Import ant functions/parameters f or communications Thanks to their modular construction and numerous I/O modules, WL Circuit Br eakers offer flexible system solutions.
Communication-capable Circuit Break ers 2/19 WL MODBUS Communication and Electronic Accessories • January 2005 Setpoints In addition to the load management option (load shedding/load rest ore), the met ering modules offer an option f or an automatic monitoring of operating data and the generation of an alarm.
Communication-capable Circuit Break ers External Cubicle BUS Modules By connecting additional, external modules t o the Cubicle BUS , break er st atus information can be displa yed and data read from the switchgear to the syst em. This enables cost-effective solutions to be implement ed for aut omating other devices in the switchgear .
Pow er Supply The Cubicle BUS must be supplied with a UL Listed 24V DC clas s 2 power supply acros s its entire length. Refer ence pages 2/33 and 2/34 of this manual for de tails per taining to the requir ements of this power supply . T erminals X8.3 and X8.
Communication-capable Circuit Break ers • The ZSI module must be the first external module t o be connected, if used. • If the BD A is connected to the front int er face of the trip unit, the cable must be no longer than 0.5 m. LED Display The LEDs on the external Cubicle BUS modules enable straightforward module diagnosis and testing.
T esting the Digital Input and Output Modules The test should be performed prior to an y commissioning work t o det ermine whether the circuit break er and its components function properly . The test mode can be used t o check that the Cubicle BUS modules function properly .
Communication-capable Circuit Break ers Digital Input Module Functional descrip tion The digital input module enables up to six additional binary signals (24V DC) to be connect ed.
Digital Output Module with Rotar y Switch The digital output module can be used to output six e vents. These events can be warnings or trips and can be used for ext ernal annunciation or control. A cir cuit break er trip can be wired t o an Alarm Horn or Stack Light.
Communication-capable Circuit Break ers Configurable Digital Output Module The configurable digital output module also has six outputs. Like the digital output module with the ro tar y switch, it is available with opt ocoupler and relay outputs.
The status can be read via the input module, which means that a mot or could be switched ON or OFF via the configurable digital output module. Many o ther applications are also possible. Unlike the digital output module with the ro tar y switch, a time delay canno t be added to the ev ent.
Communication-capable Circuit Break ers Analog Output Module The analog output module can be used to output the most important measured values sent via the Cubicle BUS to analog indicat ors (e.g. analog met ers) in the switchgear cubicle door . Each analog output module has four channels f or this purpose.
A01: Network fr equency A02: Av erage value of the phase-to- phase voltages A03: T otal active po wer A04: Av erage value of the power factors The scale for displa ying the frequency must range from 45Hz t o 65Hz. This enables the standard freq uencies in countries where IEC and UL standards apply to be displa yed.
Communication-capable Circuit Break ers ZSI Module T o use the ZSI function with the WL Circuit Br eaker , the external Cubicle BUS ZSI module must be implemented.
Short-circuit at 1: Only -Q1 establishes that a shor t- circuit has occurr ed and does not receive a bloc king signal from a subordinate le vel. For this reason, it trips after t ZSI = 50 ms. Time saved = 250 ms. The ZSI function can be used for short-circuits between the phases (S), with respect t o ground (G), or f or both simultaneously (S+G).

WL MODBUS Communication and Electronic Accessories • January 2005 Short Description of the BDA/BD A Plus System Requirements Connect the BDA/BD A Plus to the WL Circuit Breaker Communication via the.
The Break er Dat a Adapt er (BDA) is the first circuit br eaker paramet erization device t o featur e an integrat ed webser ver for parame terization, monitoring and diagnostics. The BDA Plus also featur es an Ethernet interface for connection to the Ethernet, Intrane t or Interne t.
Break er Data Adapter (BD A) BDA in Offline Mode (or BD A Plus ) In offline mode, the BDA or BDA Plus is only connected t o a laptop (repr esents all input/output devices). All the req uired paramet ers can be set in this operating mode and sav ed for lat er use (download to the cir cuit- break ers).
BDA Plus as an Ethernet Interface In addition to the pr eviously mentioned functions, the BDA Plus enables data to be accessed via the Ethernet. In this case, the cir cuit break er dat a is not transmitt ed as net data, but displayed on HTML pages in an application-specific format.
System Requirements Cert ain prer equisites ha ve to be fulfilled befor e the BDA or BD A Plus can be operated. One of the two standard bro wsers (Interne t Explorer V5.5 or higher or Ne tscape Navigat or V6.2 or higher) must be installed on the output device (e.
T o operate the BDA, it must be connected t o the target syst em (e.g. a PC) on one side and a circuit br eaker on the o ther . Different scenarios ar e possible depending on the application. For WL Circuit Br eakers, two basic methods ar e available f or connecting the BDA, tem porar y of permanent installation.
T able 4-1 The LEDs on the BDA indicate the current operating status. Operation As a microcomput er , the BDA is boot ed in the same way as a PC. This takes appr oximat ely 40 seconds and is star ted aut omatically when the power supply is switched on.
When the boot-up pr ocess is complet e, the DEVICE LED switches to green, while the Cubicle BUS LED switches to g reen or is extinguished, depending on the connection. If the BDA is no t supplied power via the Cubicle BUS of the WL, it must be activated via an ext ernal 24V DC power supply .
Connection to the BD A via the Serial Communication System T o operate the BDA, it must be connected t o the target syst em (e.g. a PC) on one side and a circuit br eaker on the o ther . A range of options ar e available, depending on the application and operating system.
