2 To use th e m ach ine sa fely Ple ase k eep these instructions for later reference and read them before attempting any mai ntenance. Choo sing a l o cation Pla c e your machine on a f l at, st able surface that is f ree of vibration and shock s. Put t he machine near a telephone wall jack and a stan dard, grounded AC power outlet.
3 Warni ng Before c leaning t he inside of the mach ine, first unplug the telep hone line cord, a nd then the power cord from the electrical socket. DO NOT use flamm able substances, any type of spray or organic s olvent/liquids con taining alcohol/ ammonia to clean the i nside or ou tside of the machine.
4 Note Caution Be sure to disconne ct t he plu g from the wall outlet an d clean t he prongs and the area around the prongs at least once a year. Allowing dust to build up on the plug constitutes a f ire hazard.

Connecting the interfac e cable i s done when installing the d r iver. 1 Open the front cover. 2 Unpack the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly.
Set ti ng Up th e Machi ne 16 STE P 1 2 Loa ding p aper i n the p a p er tr ay 1 Pull the paper tray completely out of the machine. 2 While pressing the green paper-guide release lever, sli de the paper guides to fit the paper size you are using. Make sure t hat the guides are firmly i n the slots.

Setti ng Up the Ma chin e 23 Note PBX and TRANSFER The m ach ine is in itiall y set to Normal , whic h let s the machine connect to a standard PSTN (Public Switched T elephone Ne twork) line. However, many offices use a cent ral telephone system or Private Automatic Branch E xchange ( PABX ).

To exit wit hout maki ng a c hange, press 2 and go to 4 . 3 Enter a n ew pre fi x num ber using the dial p ad (up to 5 digits ) , press OK .
